Just got home. Passed my finals. Let's get into top 100 territory.

Some lazy descripts r coming since i'm kinda a lazy writer.

110. Tricot - Potage (Math Rock)

Image result for tricot potage

Energetic Japanese math rock from one of the core groups in the genre.

Spoiler

109. Wild Nothing - Partners In Motion (Sophisti-Pop/Dream Pop)

Related image

I want Gemini Wild Nothing back!! But really, when in doubt go the sophisti route.

Spoiler

108. Hop Along - Prior Things (Indie Rock)

Image result for hop along prior things

Snail mail wishes.

Spoiler

107. Amenone - Baby Only You & I (Dream Pop/Neo-Psychedelia)

Image result for anemone baby only you and i

Pretty sounding and the genre mixes couldn't get any more accurate.

Spoiler

106. Gnod - Donovan's Daughters (Noise Rock)

Image result for gnod donovan's daughters

A massive 15 minute opener. Better than Daughters.

Spoiler

105. Sleep - Marijuanaut's Theme (Stoner Metal/Doom Metal)

Image result for sleep the sciences

4/20 Dank metal.

Spoiler

104. Jean Grae x Quelle Chris ft Dane Orr - Peacock (Abstract Hip Hop)

Image result for jean grae everything's fine

My favorite produced track on their album as there's a feeling of cautiousness. Each of the MC's evenly has their time to shine.

Spoiler

103. Djrum - Showreel, Pt. 3 - (UK Bass/Ambient)

Image result for djrum portrait with firewood

It's all about the buildup. When the beat hits :jonny:

Spoiler

102. Roosevelt - Illusions (Synthpop/Dance pop)

Image result for roosevelt shadows

Tame Impala jumped out of this one. This stands out compared to the rest of the album, which can get a bit samey at times.

Spoiler

101. Justin Timberlake - Breeze Off The Pond (Comtemporary R&B/Pop)

Image result for man of the woods

Almost top 100 but he thought.  Breeze Off The Pond is the least cringey song on the album and actually has traces of old-sounding JT. Parts of this song also reminds me of Pharrell's Gust of Wind (one of my favorite songs from him). This song deserved to be on a better album.

Spoiler

100. Bill Wurtz - Hello Sexy Pants (Sophisti-Pop/Jazz Pop)

7040248

One of the best meme'd songs of the year. The lyrics are SO ridiculous but that's part of the charm. Also, Bill has an amazing ear for melody.

Spoiler

99. Toro Y Moi - Ordinary Pleasure (French House/Synth Punk)

Image result for toro y moi ordinary pleasure lyrics

Hip and fresh.

Spoiler

98. Tinashe - He Don't Want It (Alternative R&B)

Image result for tinashe JOYRIDE

This is so underrated. More of her album should've been like this (i.e Nightride'd/Reverie'd).

Spoiler

97. Shygirl - O (Industrial Hip Hop/Deconstructed Club)

Image result for shygirl o

The beat, her delivery. Maybe she snapped.

Spoiler

96. Grimes ft Hana - We Apprecriate Power (Industrial Rock)

Image result for grimes we appreciate power

I'm not even going to get into the drama surrounding this song. When it first came out I really liked the idea of her going the industrial route. Few weeks later the verses don't have much impact. I didn't want to have to put grimes this low but there's glaring flaws with this song as time passes on. It's still well produced and the chorus/bridge are apt. If only it was a bit more fast paced and about some seconds shorter.

Partners in Motion is good.  I honestly don't care for Gemini, like at all. So I liked the sophisti-pop route!

O, is like way way wy wya way way too low.  OK?

WAP does have pacing issues and as much as I stan hard its better in idea than reality?  Still deserving of being on a YE list though.

I liked the new Roosevelt but forgot about it quickly after.

Omg someone else who liked Anemone!  She bops.

i'm more about the dream-pop route but i also don't mind partner in motion's direction. I'm still not fully into Shygirl so that's why she's where she is. WAP is definitely one of those "better on paper" type scenarios. She has time to revise though if she plans to put it on her next album.

I agree with what you said about WAP

I don’t know most of these songs but wig at Tinashe’s most underrated song snatching a spot in top 100. New Grimes was cute too.

he don't want it is literally from 2014/2013 which is why it's so good :skull: modern day tinashe could never

 He Don't Want It :smitten:

We Appreciate Power is great :jonny: Grimes just can't do wrong :jonny:

Don't remember what He Don't Want It sounds like because I really try to block out Joyride from my memories. Was not expecting Bill Hurtz to be here ddd, I've only seen a few of his videos though. Breeze Off the Pond is one of the few MOTW highlights for sure.

sleep's song is a serve... why do i always miss all the cool **** when once per quartal i try to get back to metal

shygirl and toro y moi slay too and tinashe has a very apt title, i don't want that indeed

It has to be appreciated somewhere (No Contest gets enough in other areas)

Bill's songs are ironic but I unironically like them :rip:

I would have included We Appreciate Power on my list had it been like a minute and half shorter. The production is excellent though, I LOVE those synths after each chorus.

O is interesting and yeah HDWI is a highlight.

Posted

wait, i think this is my actual favourite set so far.

tricot/wild nothing/donovan's daughters/marijuanaut's theme/peacock/illusions/o are all great to excellent (and i don't mind tinashe's song either)

hop along i prefer other songs from the album but still good

showreel pt 3 is literally perfect, god

i didn't know the history video guy was that young :rip:

breeze off the pond is honestly pretty good and it proves that he's still above his contemporaries even when he chokes (eg glory)

and i've made my thoughts on WAP p clear alrdy

The JT description :skull: BOTP is cute but there are way better songs.

Only played WAP 2 or 3 times so haven’t made up my mind on it. I’m just waiting for the album for a complete experience.

Breeze Off The Pond, He Don't Want It, Ordinary Pleasure :clap3:

I tried getting into the Jean Grae and Quelle Chris album but to no luck; the concept was cool though!

Posted

I haven't heard these, but Breeze Off the Pond and We Appreciate Power and maybe He Don't Want It seem worth checking.

Posted

Sleep :clap3: I wonder if YOB also made your list or not, it seems like both made it in lots of metal year end list

Posted

Prior Things, O, WAP... maybe they snapped. I agree WAP is already ageing poorly though

congrats on your finals !

Posted

Partners In Motion and WAP :clap3:

I still love WAP and I think it didn't age that badly, but yeah it's certainly not flawless

Posted

Congrats on passing the finals :clap3: I want Nocturne Wild Nothing back :weeps: The new album was definitely not IT. Peacock (Katy whomst?), Ordinary Pleasure (Freelance deserved but I'll take it :thing: ), O and WAP are my favs from this set :alexz:
