Remmy Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 New Light The song that got me to listen to (most of) his discography this year. There's actually more breezy songs on his 2017 album, The Search for Everything. Definitely his best work.

I can't remember if i listened to the Adrianne album or just symbol. Either way she didn't have my attention like Big Thief did last year. I only listened to The Beths' once and it didn't leave an impression honestly. The Ichiko Aoba albums I heard are all pretty relaxing and easy to listen to. Adrianne's album is eh. Only kept Symbol. Kind of the same with The Beths. 7 hours ago, Wicked said: SahBabii >>> Uhm didn't John Mayer was dropping good music anymore. He's kinda the best out of the guitar boys though. Yes, John's an excellent guitarist and his live stuff is usually more regarded than his studio work. New Light is solid tho. 7 hours ago, Navyofbadgals said: Future Me Hates Me is a nice song idk the rest.. like at all oop skdjsk I'm too indie for everyone, jk That's okay :p, glad u like the beths song. 7 hours ago, Superpower said: Shots fired. dont know her, but let me check this out. 6 hours ago, madonnas said: Didn't know you liked Kyary She was just OK this year. I never listened to The Beths tbh.... I'm a fan of Moshi Moshi and Nanda Collection. Agree on her being okay overall in 2018. 6 hours ago, Vilppu said: i don't think i know/remember anything from this set but i know i won't be checking the folk/singer-songwriter stuff ! u don't have to if you know already you won't like the folky stuff.. 5 hours ago, Dom said: I don't know a lot in here, i won't lie. But the name "I Hate Models" caught my attention and i went to listen, and i lowkey liked it. Growth is what we call this. 5 hours ago, Legend E said: John Mayer's song was cute, but kind of boring It's not really energetic but it doesn't need to be imo. 4 hours ago, prézli said: LMK remix yyyyyaaaahhhhh. (But LMK should have been your #1 last year still. ) It's not the LMK remix, it's the WYWD remix. Also, Blue Light outsold. 2 hours ago, Pink Matter said: I only listened to Tom Misch and The Beths in this list and of the two I only liked Tom Misch dd His album was great and Lost in Paris was nice, light, and breezy and GoldLink was a great addition Tom Misch reminds me of Jordan Rakei. I wonder if they ever done a collab together. 1 hour ago, Remmy said: New Light The song that got me to listen to (most of) his discography this year. My next set tomorrow will be more mainstream I promise~
Vxspertine Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Symbol & 月の丘 The Everything Everything song was kind of atrocious imo

Tom Vercetti Posted December 17, 2018 Author Posted December 17, 2018 155. Poppy ft Diplo - Time Is Up (Electropop) I hate how I like this song because I don't care for Poppy at all as a person or an artist but it's the 80s Tron sound design that attracts me. If diplo wasn't attached to this then I wouldn't have figured that he was behind the production. Spoiler 154. Young Thug - Gain Clout (Trap Rap/Pop Rap) Thugger's output this year was pretty pathetic. His 2014-2016 years were golden but after that... the fell off happened. Only song that kept my attention was Gain Clout due to its hazy atmosphere. It's short but gets the job done. Spoiler 153. The Brummies ft Kacey Musgraves - Drive Away (Pop Rock/Indie Rock) A pretty laid back song and an eventful collaboration between the country pop it girl of 2018 and some unknown indie band. Spoiler 152. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Talking Straight (Indie Rock/Jangle Pop) When male indie rock in 2018 has good guitars. Spoiler 151. Koan Sound - Virtual Light (Neurohop/Drum & Bass) Back in my online gaming days I used to listen to tons of d&b, dubstep, liquid funk, glitch hop and so forth. I'm not in that phase anymore. However, Koan Sound recently released an album that kinda brings me back to those days. I always appreciate sound design with these kind of songs. Spoiler 150. Alex Anwandter - Locura (Electropop) "a song cycle exploring gender, sexuality, and Latinx identity in dark times." There seems to be some extra appreciation for music in Spanish this year. Spoiler 149. Duda Beat - Bedi Beat (Alternative R&B/Brega) Lively Portuguese Pop~ Spoiler 148. Troye Sivan - Bloom (Synthpop/Dance-pop) The only song from him that had any oomph to me. Spoiler 147. Biig Piig - Perdida (Neo-Soul) If Angel Olsen went R&B. I just wanna lay here, and smoke my cig and drink my wine and think, I wanna lay here until my hurting is done Spoiler 146. Nas ft Kanye West - Cops Shot The Kid (Hip Hop) One of the couple songs I recall from his underwhelming album. Particularly because of the classic slick rick sample repeatedly throughout the song. The message concerning police brutality gets across. Spoiler 145. Iceage - Catch It (Post Punk/Art Punk) One of their recent standouts but still eh to me compared to their past hits. Spoiler 144. Blood Orange - Charcoal Baby (Alternative R&B/Sophisti-Pop) When you wake up, It's not the first thing that you wanna know. Like others said in their countdowns, this is the standout. Spoiler 143. Omni - Sunset Preacher (Post Punk) I like their style and these guys are overlooked! Spoiler 142. Flatbush Zombies - Headstone (Hip Hop) Money over bitches on my headstone~ Spoiler 141. AL-90 - Makabr (Outsider House/Ambient House) Murky Russian House. Spoiler

ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 17, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Bloom is my favourite of the upbeat Troye singles but my favourites of his this year were the Ariel tracks Cops Shot the Kid is basically the only song from Nasir I remember Charcoal Baby is great. Wish the album was more like it
Vilppu Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 poppy's persona is way too boring to be genuinely creepy and unsettling so i don't rly understand the point... musically a few of her songs this year were so bizarrely good for no reason, this is one of those. charcoal baby, bloom and catch it are v good too Quote If Angel Olsen went R&B. maybe this is power of suggestion but i can't unsee angel on the single cover now omg
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 17, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Poppy delivers musically, tbh. I mean, most of the time. More than I would like to admit. Charcoal Baby should be higher, the last minute is gorgeous!!!! Catch It and Bloom are great too! Bloom is definitely his best song lyrically and melodically. I'll try to listen to the beep boop songs I don't recognize.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Bloom probably my favorite from that album
Blue Rose Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Bloom is indeed Troye’s best 2018 song. But not the only one with oomph. Charcoal Baby is cute but didn’t leave me any lasting impression like his other songs
Navyofbadgals Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Charcoal Baby don't care for Poppy either
Remmy Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Time Is Up Bloom But wow his ONLY song with oomph?
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 17, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 17, 2018 Troye's song is cute
Wicked Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Agreed on Bloom being his best song. He's just too vocally lax/dull for majority of the album. Ugh so disappointed in Iceage' return. I wanted them to get darker and stronger with the Nick Cave influence and they delivered some mid/ok.
thirdward Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 that poppy song is quite nice actually never got into negro swan bc I heard mixed reviews but charcoal baby - i hope u have malamente and chances in your top 10
volition Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 missed a couple updates so let's see: favourites are 月の丘, future me hates me, walpurgis night, virtual light, catch it, & charcoal baby some of these artists appear on my lists, with the same or different songs

potent Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Oooh yes Bloom here My My My was better though imo! I have to listen to that song featuring Kacey Musgraves, I really loved her album this year.
Pink Matter Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Surprised at Charcoal Baby being so low . Can always count on surprises from you Cops Shot The Kid was also one of the few songs that stood out in a good way to me too. Headstone is a knock. Great homage to hip-hop's classics
theblackestday Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Yeah, CSTK was pretty much the only memorable song from Nasir, even though I didn't think the album is as bad as everyone else did Catch It is the best song here
Sbbmsve Posted December 18, 2018 Posted December 18, 2018 Glad that Bloom got recognition from you Bottom version of Teenage Dream. Charcoal Baby was such a good single, I hoped that album would sound like that and Jewelery.
