Amber was good but I didn't spend enough time with it. Her Sade cover is the best Sade impersonation in years though.

My Uniiqu3 payola. Glad to see on at least a couple of other lists.

Not surprised by the #1 but it's what she deserves.

Sunmi, New Optimism :clap3:

Aphex's ep is also the same situation I have w/ Jenny's.

lol, except Aphex Twin on autopilot is way more enjoyable than Jenny Hval on autopilot.

Sunmi's EP was really nice, the spotify version comes without the singles at least so there's that.

Wow, if I had known, then it might have been like 3 spots higher.  Just pretend it is.

second time i'm seeing this lyzza girl here, maybe i'll check it out

totep is good, but as some have said, it kinda became useless once Time 'n' Place came out, especially since it has Only Acting

future funk makes me cackle a bit but I love its aesthetic

Yeah Well, time and place doesn't have cinema!  And it also has Sometimes, so that dragged it down.

Future Funk is amazing and Tenay In Tokyo is one of the albums of the decade.

By whom?  Lemme check this out I only know like 3 releases.

22 hours ago, Kingie said:

CTFU had no clue Little Boots had done anything since that Afterhours single/EP thing.

Sunmi's mini was def a shock considering she not only put out her first listenable song since 2014 but she came up with 4 genuinely excellent ones.

Dreamcatcher are kinda consistently decent at b-sides for a K-Pop group, I thought Which A Star was a nice Chvrches rip off though.

Only heard Always With You by Aseul and I found it to be pleasant, didn't know there was an EP so I'll have to give it a listen.

Power Up is one of the few Red Velvet songs I actually enjoy but the album tracks...not feeling her.

Just checked out UNIIQU3 because of your description, and I'm kinda LOVING Bubble Gum and Afterparty so thank you!

You should check out Little Boots.  It's really short so its not even a huge commitment.  The Aseul EP is definitely carried by Always With You but there are other good songs too.  YOU DON'T LIKE HIT THAT DRUM?!?!?!

Kilo Kish really snapped huh

She didn't used to snap this hard!  Good 4 her.

Collapse was a cute girl but glad it’s low.

Disclosure really did their thing this year :jonny:

Can't wait for an album with songs like Funky Sensation :jonny:

22 hours ago, Eeveelution said:

First Time Today, now this? :biblio:

Need to revisit Aseul.

Conexao is great, can't wait for album etc. Mothe is nice and Peggy has potential.

I didn't really like Summer Magic so I never bothered to check out RBB. Their releases usually have 1-2 great songs and then a bunch of others I don't care for..

I'm an obsessed Disclosure hater but I've seen lots of praise for their EP so maybe I'll listen sometime. :-*

People are saying RBB has better non-singles.  You should check out Sassy Me and Butterflies at least.  You Know How It Is is basically a boring rock song.  I do not use it.

22 hours ago, MP2K said:

surprised by Amber entry, I'll ahve to catch Hatchie besides sugar & spice (song) as I've stated on multiple cds lol

Hey, where do you discover your music btw?

I used rateyourmusic this year and then recommendations from friends/tastemakers/pitchfork lol. Wbu? :-*

Your #1 sounds fascinating, I'm playing Sugar and Spice right now and I love how easygoing it sounds.

The #2 doesn't really sound like it will fit my taste but I'll for sure stay tuned for songs.

#2 is verryyyy abrasive thats why I love.  Glad I'm getting the girls into Hatchie.

21 hours ago, Vilppu said:

hatchie snatching those mentions left and right, love that

warning would be so much better without the **** teddy singles, the new four tracks are good. dreamcatcher in general didn't grab me as much as last year but it's great to see them still do their thing, it's refreshing

Glad we all hate Heroine and Gashina.  They are just so... lame.

Sandcastles is good too.

You would like her, I think!  based on what you do like.

I spent like a good month with her on repeat then just occasionally.  I legit thought she was British, that's how good it was.

I'm going to be honest.  It was a STRUGGLE getting this albums list in order.  I kept on switching everything over and over again.

With that being said, I'm very confident in the order of the top 30 or so, but the rest, don't harp TOO much on the order.

I am not doing a top 75.  I ended up having 80 and thought 5 Hms would be weird with a top 75.  I will be doing a top 60 and have 20 HMs right now because that's a lot more sensible ratio.

Seiko Oomori - Kusokawa Party / Tune-Yards - I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life / Hikaru Utada - Hatsukoi / Lykke Li - so sad so sexy / Troye Sivan - Bloom

EXO - Don't Mess Up My Tempo / Wild Nothing - Indigo / Bhad Bhabie - 15 / Neneh Cherry - Broken Politics / Tommy Genesis - Tommy Genesis

Fischerspooner - Sir / Javiera Mena - Espejo / Gang Gang Dance - Kazuashita / George Clanton - Slide / Pinkshinyultrablast - Miserable Miracles

Луна - Заколдованные сны / Soffi Tukker - Treehouse / Ionnalee - Everyone Afraid to be Forgotten / Santigold - I Don't Want: The Fire Sessions / *** ****** -  **** *** *** *****

Some notes:

  • Kusokawa Party, Заколдованные сны, Treehouse, Slide, Broken Politics, Don't Mess Up My Tempo, and Hatsukoi are the albums that could have been higher if I had spent more time with them, but I didn't.
  • I Don't Want, i can feel you creep into my private life, Kazuashita, so sad so sexy and Turn Off the Light really got old after the first week but still are good.
  • Espejo, Sir, Miserable Miracles, Tommy Genesis, Everyone Afraid to be Forgotten, and Espejo are very very inconsistent.  Like, there's some really great stuff but a lot of stuff you have to wade through.
  • You will be seeing a lot of songs from these albums on my songs list, but not all of them.
  • Seriously, I really like Tommy Genesis but she never should have even tried to do that emo rap thing because it is nasty.
  • Javiera Mena's album wasn't that great this year but I discovered her older stuff and it SLAPS.
  • Seriously, I am so mad at Ionnalee.  She releases all the best song from the album and then gives us nothing new this year besides 1-2 songs.  GROSS.

TreeHouse is full of bops. I was at a birthday party and that was basically the only thing we played lol.

Bloom & SSSS deserve better.

I meant to check out Wild Nothing but never got into it. Oh well.

Posted

I like emo rap sometimes but I agrih that Tommy Genesis doing it wasn't really it ?

Lykke Li, Neneh and ionnalee :heart2: Swedish excellence!

Posted

I listened to Amber Mark's EP and I decided... she snapped

Posted

Don't Mess Up My Tempo was v cohesive I thought for a k-pop album but I haven't gone back to it much, I think The War is their best album so it probably didn't help that it came after that.

I've been meaning to finally get around to Troye's album all year but I'm v lazy when it comes to albums. Bloom was one of my fave western songs of the year though.

Kim.....made a listenable soundtrack for me when I was getting ready to go the club on Halloween I guess.

Posted

Yeah none of those are main list material for me.

Posted

she did it again :clap3::clap3:

perched 4 albums

more perchered for singles!

Agreed about Javiera Mena, her new album was boring but Que Me Tome la Noche and Otra Era are classics

Looking forward to the albums.

Not mad at any of these missing the main listing. Glad you liked the Sofi & George Clanton records! They were both a bit underrated.

Wondering how/if you'll incorporate Roisin into this listing...

Yes, there are artists doing it better than her.  WAY better.  One of them will place decently high on the list.

I mean it's cute for a few listens, and it has good pacing.  My issue is like, girl, these are † and Discovery instrumentals with a little Deadmau5 mixed in.  LATE.

Otro Era the album is just like wow.  Why did nobody tell me about her in 2014 or 2010.  Eza Fuerza and Espada are just :deadbanana4:

I was considering putting Roisins double a sides as EPOTY but thought that to be slightly tacky and desperate.

SAME.  I forced myself to believe I Don't Want was excellence, for like a half hour lol.

ok wow nice list :clap3:

so sad so ****ty is bad but for the most part what I listened to from the HM's was okay. I didn't know tuneyards was still a thing though.

Posted

most of these are great hms (there's about 2-3 albums here which deserved better imo). :heart2: that tune-yards album was decent but I and everyone else pretty much left it in january. the best thing about wild nothing's album is having a mitski penned song. tommy genesis' album was okay pretty boring, she doesn't have much personality.

Posted

Yeah none that I've heard deserved to make the main list.
