Tom Vercetti Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Masseducation and ASIB ost..... Decisions were made. Indigo + Testing were pretty underwhelming. Sweetener is on the inconsistent side but there's good things from both martin and pharrell. Honey being the highest album in this batch is deserving.
Fenrir Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 18 hours ago, Navyofbadgals said: 46. Ariana Grande – Sweetener [POP] Sweetener’s worst moment is a Nicki Minaj feature, not surprisingly. Other than that Sweetener is for the most part admirable. It’s title track is also a skip but I think that the rest of the songs range from decent to amazing. Often times Pharrell is criticized for his work on here, but I think on songs like R.E.M. he brings out Ariana’s voice in a beautiful way, something that Max Martin doesn’t really do for her. My only problem with Pharrell’s sound is that this doesn’t feel like experimentation for Ariana; rather it’s an exploration of Pharrell’s sound. Sweetener certainly isn’t Ariana’s best work but it’s an admirable attempt at risktaking. 17 hours ago, Navyofbadgals said: 44. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born OST [SOUNDTRACK] Well.. I enjoyed this quite a lot more than I could’ve ever anticipated. It’s not crazy Gaga; but we are treated here with undeniably the best ballads of her career. Watching the movie definitely made me love some songs even more and I think that most tracks are near perfection. A few pop tracks and most Bradley tracks aren’t and it’s what weighs this album down somewhat. I still think Bradley did an amazing job; but I’m not gonna force myself to like his songs lmao. They’re not bad; but not my cup of tea. Black Eyes is great tho x
Navyofbadgals Posted December 16, 2018 Author Posted December 16, 2018 40. Blood Orange – Negro Swan [ALTERNATIVE R&B] A beautiful album that isn’t an instant hit. It needs time to grow on you, and even then you won’t even be in the mood for this all of the time. This is definitely not as strong as Freetown Sound, but I still think it’s a great album that a has a pretty strong 2nd half. 39. Ryan Beatty – Boy In Jeans [ALTERNATIVE R&B] the gheys should be stanning this ghey instead of Troye Sivan and that is just the tea of today. Ryan’s voice somewhat reminds me of Miguel, and his album is a personal experience with some great songs. Is this the most original artist you will ever hear? Certainly not, but this is an incredibly enjoyable album imo and a pretty solid debut. 38. The Carters – Everything Is Love [R&B/HIP-HOP] For some this is probably still too high? Idk I think EIL is still a pretty great album with some bangers, but I would’ve guessed that this album would be in my top 10 of 2018.. and it clearly isn’t. As the ending of a trilogy (Lemonade, 4:44, EIL) it just doesn’t deliver. It’s like a sloppy ending to your fav TV show, which is still enjoyable because of the characters in it. All the personal work from their previous albums are ruined here for a rather odd braggadocious album about them, perhaps tainting Lemonade and 4:44 in the process too. But enough negativity, because EIL still delivers some great moments, it’s a cohesive album and it features some great Bey moments, and a lot of nice Jay-Z moments too. also homophobic excellence Migos DID snap on Apeshit and that’s just that on that. 37. Various Artists – Black Panther: The Album [SOUNDTRACK] Black Panther the album, which is almost a Kendrick album, isn’t nearly as exciting as his own records.. But I guess that’s not really needed. It’s a nice and fun commercial album with plenty of bops and music to get you hyped. I also like the hints of African music here and there, mixed in with modern-day hip-hop. Also the movie was a slay x 36. Lykke Li – So Sad So Sexy [POP] Well.. I’m ready for my 2nd round of lashings but I did enjoy this a lot Was it a disappointment after I Never Learn? Definitely.. is it her worst album? Maybe so. But it’s still filled with bangers and is incredibly enjoyable. This is filled with moody pop bangers with hip-hop/trap influences. It’s an album I personally enjoyed even though I see that this is clearly not her strongest work. Eaux well..

Navyofbadgals Posted December 16, 2018 Author Posted December 16, 2018 35. Empress Of – Us [ALTERNATIVE POP] A nice collection of fun dance-y songs. It’s a lot more mainstream than her debut, but that makes it also more accessible and relaxing to listen to. Whilst her debut was focused on taking risks and experimenting, Us feels much more focused in one place. Creating an album that perhaps isn’t nearly as exciting, but an album that’s still a lot of fun. Also she has a few songs with Khalid so I’m sure she gave him some listenable songs finally again too. Hooray. 34. Denzel Curry – TA13OO [HIP-HOP/TRAP-RAP] So apparently he’s also a soundcloud rapper? I guess that this makes him without a doubt the best rapper to come from there (not that there was a lot of competition tbh). The album is divided into 3 acts and is just an amazing album. This is so worth the listen, and whilst it’s not in any way flawless, it is still an incredible effort and a great example of how good trap can be. 33. Thom Yorke – Suspiria [SOUNDTRACK] My favorite soundtrack of the year. This doesn’t top the original Suspiria soundtrack, but it’s still an incredibly beautiful and haunting ambient album that is still enjoyable enough thanks to a few tracks that still feature vocals. But even the tracks without vocals are incredibly stunning and beautiful. Unlike another ambient soundtrack on my list (Hereditary soundtrack), the fear is sometimes hidden beautifully in tracks that create an atmosphere of uncertainty. A piano here and there and an amazing album is born. 32. Anderson .Paak – Oxnard [NEO-SOUL/HIP-HOP] Oxnard starts with a unique song that feels like a literal car chase like you see in the movies (hence the name The Chase) and is assisted with some incredible Kadhja Bonet vocals, a great start to an album. The rest of the album continues on a strong note and while it doesn’t have that jazziness and funkiness that his debut has (and mostly the Soul is missing here too), Oxnard is an enjoyable record that creates a more diverse landscape where Paak nails nearly everything. Nearly. Him giving us a patois sung track with Left to Right was certainly not needed for example.. oh and a boring J. Cole feature.. as somewhat expected from J. Bore. Oxnard is still a great album but I think I still prefer his debut ever so slightly. It’s nice that he didn’t feel the need to remake his debut though. 31. VanJess – Silk Canvas [ALTERNATIVE R&B] Drawing inspiration from earlier times of R&B along with a fusion of modernness with some electro touches here and there, Silk Canvas is an incredible debut with great songs. It’s cohesive but it’s not same-y. Silk Canvas is modern, but also not too current for it to be consumed to one time period. If you have not listened to this, PLEASE do xoxo
bestfiction Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 You have given like the most accurate description of Love Is Dead, honestly Sweetener is kidna dull; it has some great moments however, but Ariana and her horrible stans have been so insufferable this year, I can't stand it I would've enjoyed her music much more if it wasn't like that. Also Nicki's TLIC part is the best thing on the album MassEd is cute, I guess I liked New York, Sugarboy and Savior from it ASIB I was surprised by it too, def GaGa's best ballads are on it
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 16, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2018 EIL is kind of overhated? It's actually a fine album. so sad so sexy has four songs i enjoy Us is ummm.... an album. There are four songs I enjoy on this too Timberlands is the clear highlight for me TA13OO... I like the first two songs Thom made points on Suspiria haven't seen the film yet but I bet it works perfectly in context I liked Oxnard a lot more on my second listen

A Star Is Born OST: Way too low I'm disgust! And wow, another person underrating Bradley! I enjoyed IHaD so I may go back to her previous material at some point in the future. Albums: Solid picks so far. Some too low (like Honey wtf ). And it's okay sis, not everyone can understand the brilliance that is Beach2k20. A big bop as the kids say I never go into a Travis album expecting bars. Just lush/extravagant production which he delivered throughout the album. Testing seems to be hit or miss for most people, mostly miss it seems o whale, the album actually grew on me tons. You're not wrong about The Future and the Past not reinventing the wheel, but does it really need to? I don't think it's necessary to critique music on the basis of whether or not the artist is doing something innovative, as long as they do what they set out to do well which I think was mostly the case Natalie's effort. And I don't get the hate for sweetener (song) seems rather odd tbh Sweetener song just sounds so childish to me idk plus it actually starts pretty nice 12 hours ago, thecptz said: omg stan jain and miss mø serving taste a biT also, you like r.e.m (or that what i've implied) anyway, will check out some of this and CRA ofc yes rem yes talent 12 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Forever Neverland and Sweetener out already one of my favorite pop releases of the year Honey is..questionable, probably because of big expectations after self-titled and BT oop 11 hours ago, Wicked said: ASAP Rocky is not good. potent Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 ASIB and Black Panther soundtrack represented here I really loved Missing U from Robyn but I had a hard time getting into Honey, so idk how I would feel about the album! Gotta give it a listen though along with MO’s (never really checked for her but Blur is a slay)
Jet Posted December 16, 2018 Posted December 16, 2018 Black Panther is pretty good minus a few tracks, the movie made me really enjoy the soundtrack tbh. EIL in general is pretty decent. Would’ve been better if it weren’t so polluted with Mr. Carter.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 16, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2018 I tried listening to VanJess but gave up after 10 seconds... Us, Taboo, ssss, and EIL are good but not mindblowing Negro Swan is the best update in this one.
