Uncatena Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Love is Dead was the biggest fad of the year and cemented that Chvrches were a one-album-wonder x Cocoa Sugar, Kazuashita, Future Me Hates Me whew, we decided to STAN forever
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Kazuashita was fine. Gave it some listens months ago but didn't grow on me. I'd like to check #52.
lhdang2000 Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I heard some of "Love is Dead" but never finish it, maybe I'll have to. Palo Santo is cute. It's very one-dimensional tho.
Temporal Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Love is Dead is meh, some cute songs here and there like you said. The Years & Years album is... not good Surprised Sugar Cocoa is so low since his record has been so acclaimed
volition Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 i barely liked chvrches's earlier albums so after hearing this was a step down, i didn't even bother to try it. years & years frontman seems annoying but i agree that king was a pretty catchy song. kazuashita & fmhm are pretty good and young fathers is my favourite of the group.
Remmy Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Welp at all the CHVRCHES hate (not really from you, but everyone else) I really loved the album and don't see a lot of flaws in it. I got into them this year and I'd rank their discography in reverse order. Their debut is EASILY their most loved but aside from a few standouts, I think it's a little overlong. Anyway, Love Is Dead needs more love!
Mark Rih Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Palo Santo is my fave from the set glad you put it above of Troya Sivan
Cloröx Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 I'll check Future Me Hates Me after this. Sounds interesting I'm
TheWayWeWere Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Chloe x Halle album was such a great discover for me this year All for You > Palo Santo :eli: Young Fathers
Vilppu Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 GGD + young fathers were good as someone familiar with chvrches before i wasn't disappointed at all. i hated this album only slightly more than i hated the previous two
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 Chloe x Halle need to go full experimental!
Navyofbadgals Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 50. Kina Grannis – In The Waiting [POP/SINGER-SONGWRITER] A collection of beautiful ballads. I haven’t played this a lot so far so I guess thats why it’s also somewhat low, but this is worth the listen (and I say that to myself too lol). 49. Wild Nothing – Indigo [DREAM/INDIE POP] A decent album but the band doesn’t do a lot to set themselves apart from other bands. 48. MO – Forever Neverland [ELECTROPOP] I guess opinions are divided on this? I think it’s an enjoyable and consistent record that takes on EDM sounds but makes them ever so slightly different to still get a unique experience; like in Blur. The album is much more consistent than No Mythologies, although it is also less unique and doesn’t reach the highs that that one does. It’s a decent and consistent electropop album.. and that’s all.. also that haircut I- 47. A$AP Rocky – Testing [EXPERIMENTAL HIP-HOP] This has.. some filler to say the least. But the album also consists of some amazing cuts, the pre-release songs are great, along with the majority of the first half of the album. Especially the FKA Twigs assisted track is one to look out for. Other than that it’s a fitting album name, cause not all of these tests paid off very well. 46. Ariana Grande – Sweetener [POP] Sweetener’s worst moment is a Nicki Minaj feature, not surprisingly. Other than that Sweetener is for the most part admirable. It’s title track is also a skip but I think that the rest of the songs range from decent to amazing. Often times Pharrell is criticized for his work on here, but I think on songs like R.E.M. he brings out Ariana’s voice in a beautiful way, something that Max Martin doesn’t really do for her. My only problem with Pharrell’s sound is that this doesn’t feel like experimentation for Ariana; rather it’s an exploration of Pharrell’s sound. Sweetener certainly isn’t Ariana’s best work but it’s an admirable attempt at risktaking.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 15, 2018 Author Posted December 15, 2018 45. St. Vincent – MASSEDUCATION [ACOUSTIC] Ooh boy.. I can feel naysayers already. I personally still enjoy Masseduction, and I think that this acoustic reworking is great for an album that was sometimes perhaps too polished. Tracks like Savior actually got a lot better, but a majority of the tracks are cute but not better reworkings. Still though it got her those Scammy noms so I think that this quick lil album was a success and it’s a cute gift. 44. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper – A Star Is Born OST [SOUNDTRACK] Well.. I enjoyed this quite a lot more than I could’ve ever anticipated. It’s not crazy Gaga; but we are treated here with undeniably the best ballads of her career. Watching the movie definitely made me love some songs even more and I think that most tracks are near perfection. A few pop tracks and most Bradley tracks aren’t and it’s what weighs this album down somewhat. I still think Bradley did an amazing job; but I’m not gonna force myself to like his songs lmao. They’re not bad; but not my cup of tea. Black Eyes is great tho x 43. Natalie Prass – The Future and the Past [POP SOUL] Using elements of jazz, soul and mostly pop; The Future and The Past is a beautifully arranged album that doesn’t go the extra mile to impress the listener even more; it’s in no way innovative but it’s a perfectly okay album. 42. Travis Scott – ASTROWORLD [TRAP RAP] Mixing trap with psychedelic music and so much more elements; ASTROWORLD is Travis’ strongest effort to date, though certainly not flawless either. Travis’ raps don’t always deliver, nor do some of his collaborators (I’m looking @ you NAV; talentless heck). Still though it’s a nice mix of experimentation and it’s surprisingly strong. Plus it blocked Queen so we are truly grateful ms. Travis 41. Robyn – Honey [ELECTROPOP] I know that I’m going to get dragged for placing this so low but oafjpaewifpa IDC xo. Real tea is that I know that Honey is great, but not all the tracks land for me. Honey and Because It’s In The Music are absolutely amazing and truly stunning tracks, but other tracks don’t really land for me. Beach2k20 sounds like literal elevator music and some other tracks don’t have the beauty that my fav 2 tracks have. Maybe it’s just not for me to get? idk
Bxtch Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Sweetener not even top 40? glad to see it here tho!

Love is Dead is garbage mama. Yeah, their previous albums are better. I think it def helped for me that I wasn't familiar with them whatsoever; I can see why some are disappointed but with the way I went into their discography all I saw was an okay synthpop album n On 12/14/2018 at 7:47 PM, Mezik said: I need to learn how to explore my musical tastes, seeing countdowns like yours make me realized my musical taste is so limited. I swear if I don't hear it on the American Country Countdown I don't know it exists. I mean it's also kinda good that you found the thing you like plus I'm also shocked at myself I just really wanted to listen to as many new music as possible this year and that's honestly a reason why musically my 2018 was pretty nice; even though the year as a whole was.. rather dry as far as big rihleases go On 12/14/2018 at 7:49 PM, Unoriginal said: I haven't heard Cocoa Sugar yet but imo the only thing of worth in this update is Kazuashita drag me ofwejpa On 12/14/2018 at 7:50 PM, Superpower said: CxH, Young Daddies, Jain Churches is one of my least faves of the year. Still, they delivered their best song since their debut on this album Several points have been made with Cocoa Sugar and Kazuashita what song might that be ? On 12/14/2018 at 8:15 PM, Pink Matter said: The Kids Are Alright was a nice debut with quite a handful of standout tracks. I think where it's ranked is good. Seinabo Sey was actually a last minute album that I listened to and I enjoyed it a lot! Glad to see it represented on your list. Cocoa Sugar was kinda ehh for me. I might have to give it another listen but I didn't enjoy it when it first came out. The Beths were cute. I think they were worth a listen but I didn't really go back to it Have you heard Seinabo's previous album? It has some beautiful cuts like Burial and Ruin that kinda trump on this album On 12/14/2018 at 9:34 PM, potent said: Love is Dead was okay, but the singles were definitely the highlights tbh, didn't really feel worthwhile listening to. eh I guess. Future and the Past is a good album but yeah it's not very inventive. The best song on it is Ship Go Down which is like the one exception.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2018 NOT SWEETENER'S TITLE TRACK BEING A SKIP THOUGH
volition Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 astroworld is p good but i definitely do not think it's his best effort when rodeo exists sweetener is also pretty good, although your least favourite songs are my 2 favourites on the album a star is born soundtrack

Vilppu Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 you're right about honey, it serves all style, no substance way too often to be acceptable. the title track IS quite good though, i have to say travis and natalie albums weren't bad but i never felt like coming back for a second listen for either. sweetener would actually be a lot lot better if it just had the title track x15 ^-^
