Pink Matter Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I jsut knew I wasn't going to enjoy Drake's album so there was no point in subjecting myself to a 90 min album NERD was cute for a few weeks but it didn't hold up (the Kendrick/MIA track goes awf still) Choker suffers from sounding too much like Frank O on a good majority of the songs. For me it's like, why listen to him when I can listen to someone much better? The album was still alright and Starfruit LA slays so he at least has that going for him. 6lack's album was kinda ehh too. Hope he steps it up in the future.
Temporal Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Bloom is hella overrated. I was shook seeing Scorpion before I read the caption, can't believe Rolling Stone put it in the Top 10

K$Ellie Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I haven't heard all of Scorpion but I'm pretty sure it's full of filler so that spot is deserved Kii Troye flopped as well I was gonna listen to Snail Mail's album but I passed on it
Prismee Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Scorpion is trash Stan for CRA The Chinese version of Yellow kinda snatched me. Bloom

Navyofbadgals Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 60. CHVRCHES – Love Is Dead [SYNTH-POP] I’m surprisingly not so familiar with CHVRCHES, so I guess that’s why I’m not disappointed and so many others seemingly are. There are some nice songs with great hooks on here and after listening to this I also listened to their previous album; which is obviously better.. but I think this is cute tbh. It could do with a little bit more personality and life but if you like synth-pop, then I’m sure you’ll find some cute songs here and there. 59. Chloe X Halle – The Kids Are Alright [R&B] A solid debut with bops here and there. I will say that they feel somewhat lost still? I guess that’s fine when you’re just on your debut. It’ll be interesting to see where these girls end up; I like that they are taking fashion risks on red carpets.. I hope they can do the same in music 58. Years & Years – Palo Santo [ELECTROPOP] A nice follow-up from Communion with lots of bops. It’s nothing extraordinary but it’s fun and enjoyable even though none of the songs top the perfection that was ‘King’ 57. Goldilox – Very Best [POP] There’s some potential here but some songs go on for too long, and the album as a whole is a little bit too short for my liking. Still some of these songs slap (for the most part) and I wonder when the gheys will latch onto this and ha 56. Seinabo Sey – I’m A Dream [SOUL POP] I was so excited for this after the first two singles of this album were amazing. I loved how Seinabo used Gospel and Soul in subtle ways whilst still being modern. The album as a whole however, was an underwhelming experience. There are still a few cute songs here and it has grown over me over time but I still think it’s a disappointment and her previous album (with the Kygo-assisted hit Younger) is still superior. If anything, take a listen at the amazing singles.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 14, 2018 Author Posted December 14, 2018 55. Justine Skye – ULTRAVIOLET [CONT. R&B] Justine’s album is filled with a lot of bangers that are current and on-trend. That last part is also the downfall of the album. Justine’s album is very solid but she doesn’t do anything extraordinary or dares to stand out to really define herself as an artist. Still though, this is a fun record. 54. Young Fathers – Sugar Cocoa [EXP. HIP-HOP] If this album came out later in the year it probably would’ve been a lot higher. I was obsessed with this when it came out but now that I revisit it, I’m not that fond of it anymore. Sugar Cocoa is most definitely worth a listen, just don’t overplay it. It’s still an incredibly fun and unique record with plenty of songs with nice and surprising hooks. 53. Gang Gang Dance – Kazuashita [NEO-PSYCHEDELIA] If you’re into psychedelic music, this record is gonna be fun. I think Kazuashita has a lot of gems, I’m just not always in the mood for it and I’m not sure if all the tracks have a nice replay value. It’s only 10 tracks long including 3 ‘’interludes’’, so do check out xoxo 52. The Beths – Future Me Hates Me [INDIE ROCK/POP PUNK] A really fun collection of songs here. It didn’t impress me a lot, but this doesn’t really have a bad song and is fun to listen to, though don’t overplay this too. 51. Jain – Souldier [ART POP] This is incredibly silly as an album with songs like Inspecta, but that’s also what makes this so fun and lovable. It combines (French) pop with Afrobeats and some middle-eastern influences with fun and silly writing. Souldier sometimes is a bit too repetitive in its hooks, but it’s hard not to love an album so silly yet so fun. sidenote but fawopefapew this formatting omg atrl hates me huh
mokitsu Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 CHVRCHES was nice. i agree that i wasn't familiar so was not disappointed chloe and halle surprised me, very solid debut years and years was garbage

Eeveelution Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 (edited) I was just listening to Cocoa Sugar earlier, a quality album. Love is Dead is garbage mama. Yeah, their previous albums are better. Edited December 14, 2018 by Eeveelution
Mezik Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I need to learn how to explore my musical tastes, seeing countdowns like yours make me realized my musical taste is so limited. I swear if I don't hear it on the American Country Countdown I don't know it exists.
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 14, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2018 I haven't heard Cocoa Sugar yet but imo the only thing of worth in this update is Kazuashita
Blue Rose Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 CxH, Young Daddies, Jain Churches is one of my least faves of the year. Them and Borns managed to release something worst than Camila. That takes talent tbh
KasioKas Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I agree with your opinion on Ultraviolet, it made my list as well but not very high. I do hope she continues to make more music in the new year that's more interesting.
prézli Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 I heard Ultraviolet only and didn't like it.
World Eater Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Honestly I thot that Love Is Dead would be a trainwreck when in fact it was only a slight disappointment. Still, they delivered their best song since their debut on this album Several points have been made with Cocoa Sugar and Kazuashita
Pink Matter Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 The Kids Are Alright was a nice debut with quite a handful of standout tracks. I think where it's ranked is good. Seinabo Sey was actually a last minute album that I listened to and I enjoyed it a lot! Glad to see it represented on your list. Cocoa Sugar was kinda ehh for me. I might have to give it another listen but I didn't enjoy it when it first came out. The Beths were cute. I think they were worth a listen but I didn't really go back to it
potent Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Love is Dead was okay, but the singles were definitely the highlights tbh, didn't really feel worthwhile listening to. I never really understood the hype about Years & Years
Wicked Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Honestly, I think decent+ music is all we can expect from a want-to-be pop/rnb star nowadays... They just seem to have really hard times either finding their musical identity or putting their own personality into the music.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 love is dead is garbage x. Get into their debut. young fathers album isn't as fresh but not bad still. Gang Gang Dance and The Beths have a couple keepers.
