Navyofbadgals Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 75. Drake – Scorpion [RAP] Scorpion sees Drake take smart use of sampling, making plenty of potential hits. With Scorpion you have one pretty enjoyable and decent album, the problem with that sentence however is, is that Scorpion is not one album… it’s two. Over half of Scorpion feels meh, filler or is just bad. It also baffles me how he released I’m Upset as a pre-release single considering it’s the worst of the bunch. Still though, a few tracks on here that I really enjoyed so I felt like I had to put it on here. 74. Various Artists – Crazy Rich Asians Motion Soundtrack [SOUNDTRACK] A nice mix of older songs and some new tracks that are pretty enjoyable. The soundtrack isn’t nearly as good or as enjoyable as some other soundtracks released this year but it features a stunning highlight from Kina Grannis with Can’t Help Falling In Love With You. Also now that we’re talking about this; go see the movie (it’s a lot of fun) 73. Chic – It’s About Time [DISCO] There are quite a few big name collaborations on here, but Chic’s album isn’t really impressive whatsoever for their standards. The Stefflon track and the Gaga one arereally enjoyable, and a few other cuts are nice as well. The album also has a track with Emeli Sandé and Elton John which is.. awful. Still though a pretty groovy and danceable record but not with a lot of life to it 72. Joji – BALLADS 1 [ALT. R&B] It’ll be interesting to see where this former youtuber will end up with his music career. Ballads 1 is an okay debut and its lead single Slow Dancing In The Dark is actually amazing. The rest of the album sometimes dwell a little but too much on the moody vibe, making it not the strongest album. Still though, keep an eye out for him in the coming years. 71. N E R D – No One Ever Really Dies [HIP-HOP] Lemon, Deep Down Body Thurst, Secret Life of Tigers, Don’t Don’t Do It and ESP are the only tracks still worth listening to. The rest of the album hasn’t hold up well over time, perhaps due to Pharrells chaotic (but sometimes enjoyable) production. I would also like to compliment them on having a track with Ed Shitran and making that gingers voice unrecognizable ish. We can celebrate that 70. Laura Veirs – The Lookout [FOLK/SINGER-SONGWRITER] A pretty strong and beautiful album with beautiful lyricism. The main problem here is that The Lookout sometimes tends to be.. somewhat boring. It’s not something that you keep wanting to come back to, nor is it something that you keep having in your head. It’s a strong album, but it could do with a little bit more life 69. Colin Stetson – Hereditary Soundtrack [SOUNDTRACK/AMBIENT] Hereditary’s soundtrack is divine, capturing the emotions of grief, hopelessness and dread quite well. It doesn’t have the most replay value, but I don’t think it was really made for that. I wouldn’t necessary recommend this album, but do check out the movie that came out with it. Experience the soundtrack there, along with Toni Colette’s amazing acting. 68. Coeur De Pirate – En cas de tempête, ce jardin sera fermé [ART POP] A quite beautiful French pop record, though a bit forgettable and not as good as previous releases.
Blue Rose Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Scorpion Chic was disappointing. I was so excited. Crazy Rich Asians’ their cover of Coldplay’s undeniable classic Yellow, ha impact
Navyofbadgals Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 aoefajwepfoa atrl ****ed up my formatting but can't be bothered to change it now; anyways; 67. Emily Ritz – Pattern Recess [POP] Pattern Recess could’ve been higher, but I don’t really feel the urge to go back to the album.. which is perhaps somewhat weird? Idk. It’s an easy listening experience that isn’t exactly pop, as it still incorporates many other elements. It didn’t define my 2018, but it’s a pretty enjoyable record and worth a listen 66. Choker – Honeybloom [R&B] Choker’s Honeybloom is somewhat forgettable, but still a nice record. I’m not sure if in 2019 and onward I would go back to this album, but it’s actually really nice and def worth a listen 65. Troye Sivan – Bloom [POP] It baffles me that Bloom was this acclaimed, as it’s really nothing extraordinary and perhaps somewhat underwhelming. I was expecting a lot from it’s incredibly fun lead My My My!, but it’s pretty forgettable and there aren’t a lot of standouts on this. Also the Ariana collab is awful lol. That said, Bloom is still nice and polished and it’s good to see a ghey thriving like that with critics. 64. 6LACK – East Atlanta Love Letter [HIP-HOP/ALT. R&B] Honestly this deserves a placement here solely because of Switch. The album offers a few other nice cuts and I hope 6LACK can become more and more successful over time; but he needs to step it up a little bit. This isn’t the most exciting hip-hop album of the year, but it shows potential for the future. 63. Laurel Halo – Raw Silk Uncut Wood [AMBIENT] With the (understanding) lack of vocals, this isn’t exactly the easiest album to listen to. It’s still pretty good and better than a lot of albums coming up (oop lol), but I just find it hard to listen to over and over again. Still it’s pretty darn haunting and beautiful and if you’re not scared of ambient music, you should give this a try. 62. Wet – Still Run [ART POP] Enjoyable at points with pretty comforting and beautiful ballads and downtempo songs, but it’s not really remarkable. There are still some highlights on this and I find the album to be somewhat addictive? She is cute.. and a majority of the list is gorgeous y’know 61. Snail Mail – Lush [INDIE ROCK] This is a good album and considering she’s just a teen, it shows potential. It’s a nice album that really speaks from a teen perspective, the biggest problem is that it’s all a bit same-y. If anything, listen to the album’s highlight Pristine. It’ll be interesting to see where Snail Mail will end up with, but this isn’t worthy of its insanely high acclaim.
Blue Rose Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Bloom is too low. The homophobia and virginity JUMPED OUT.
Eeveelution Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 None of these deserved to be any higher, I'll say that.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 It's About Time sounds so dated IWYL is great, others are... NORD started off pretty good, but ended up being kinda messy Snail Mail

ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 13, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2018 Still Run and Lush are probably some of my least favourite albums of the year Bloom was cute for a week tho
prézli Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 I only know It's About Time and it was not good. Queen made it to my worst list. x
Vilppu Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 bloom was nice but nothing special rly, i liked his debut better. i kinda wanna stan snail mail just cuz everyone on atrl seems to irrationally hate her but then i remember her music and am like nvm. music was a strong point in hereditary but i cba to listen instrumental OSTs
KasioKas Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Bloom is excellent how dare you! I agree My My MY was misleading as the lead but the album was still a success in my eyes.
Wicked Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Slow Dancing In The Dark is the best track out all these albums but I will say Troye kinda deserved better.
Maddox Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 I don't understand the Snail Mail acclaim either lol, it was just okay. I agree on Coeur De Pirate. The album is nice but it doesn't have much replay value compared to her other work
Mark Rih Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Scorpion deserved more once you delete the fillers it’s very strong

World Eater Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Joji may be a talentless hack but he's made some points with BALLADS 1. I also love how much controversy that Snail Mail album has caused considering how musically uneventful it is (no shade!)
Tom Vercetti Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Nice to see Laurel here (although i'm not really into that album from her). U should try out Quarantine/Dust next if u haven't already.
lhdang2000 Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Scorpion is... not good. I can't take a 90-min album. Crazy Rich Asians OST surprises me a lot. I love the rendition of CHFILWY.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 13, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2018 Nothing good so far. Thank you, next.

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2018 I haven't heard a lot of these but this Emily Ritz album seems interesting!
Remmy Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Just watched Crazy Rich Asians days ago but I don't remember any songs that stuck out to me (unless the OST doesn't have anything that was actually in the movie.) Only listened to the Gaga feature from Chic, that bops! Oh yikes yikes yikes at Bloom only being SIXTY-FIVE
