Vilppu Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Quote Moses Sumney - Rank & File The best protest song of the year (idk what the competition is tho, but I know they lost). i agree ! most of these are rly good, glad to see washing machine heart and dirty computer. janelle's intros/overtures are always stunning
Remmy Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 I love Lana (actually wearing her on my shirt right now) and especially Jack Antonoff but Venice Bitch just doesn't do it for me. APESH*T is a cute gorl. no tears left to cry mmmm I Don't Know What Love Is, oh wow It really is underrated, probably my 7th favorite from the soundtrack.
Kiss It Better Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 no tears, apeshit, i like it DC title track is underrated actually
Lazuli Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 IDKWLI is cute but Music to My Eyes is better Venice Bitch, Cool & Collected, NTLTC, Immaterial, Washing Machine Heart, I Like It
Navyofbadgals Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 10. Rosalía - MALAMENTE - Cap.1: Augurio Using elements of trap and pop fused together with Flamenco, MALAMENTE is an example of how modern day pop music can still be forward thinking. The use of claps throughout the song give it a unique vibe, but they don't stand out too much that they get annoying. Everything melts together in this flamenco pop masterpiece; where Rosalía manages to reinvent an old genre into something new and exciting. 9. Rosalía - PIENSO EN TU MIRÁ - Cap.3: Celos Pienso en tu mirá is somewhat similar to Malamente, with the usage of claps throughout the song. This song however sounds a lot more melodic and is a lot sweeter than Malamente. This love song narrowly wins for me from Malamente, mainly for its more melodic approach 8. Melody's Echo Chamber - Desert Horse Everything goes in Desert Horse. Its a song that fully commits to its chaos, feeling like 100 songs in one, and yet it works. With its vivid imagery in the lyrics, with lines like ''so much blood on my hands..'' Desert Horse becomes the most emotional song of the record, but it doesn't stay in the darkness of that line. It instead manages to represent pure chaos along with true emotional investment. As far as psychedelic songs go, this one is forward-thinking, different but still a lot of fun because Melody goes 100% for it. 7. Kacey Musgraves - Oh, What A World Oh, What A World is my favorite track from Golden Hour. It's an incredibly sweet track about the beauty and the wonders of the world. It features some electronic effects that are subtly used in the country sound from Oh, What A World. With this, she creates a song that it's modern and different from other country songs whilst still keeping the charm that the genre (sometimes) possesses. We stan some positivity 6. Janelle Monáe - Don't Judge Me This slowly but surely became my favorite track from Dirty Computer. Whilst on first listen you're drawn to the more poppier tracks, like Take A Byte (which was my initial favorite as far as album tracks go), or songs like Screwed; Crazy, Classic, Life and so on. Don't Judge Me feels a lot more timeless, also feeling somewhat as an ode to her previous musical ventures (with the sound being somewhat similar to ArchAndroid (in my opinion lol)). Don't Judge Me sees Janelle being open about her fears of not truly being liked of who she actually is. A look of the star behind the disguise of her fictional android characters. Don't Judge Me is an honest masterpiece that's vulnerable, but has a subtle and sexy touch to it. 5. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss After a pretty great album (funk wav bounces vol.1), I was excited to see what Calvin do next. With that album he managed to set himself more apart and seek talents into slightly different genres, rather than staying with basic EDM. What we got next from him was Nuh Ready Nuh Ready.. an absolute mess of a song. Now I've noticed quite a few times that PND is just not really that good of an artist, but he is killer if he makes hits for others. When One Kiss was announced, I was somewhat sceptical at first, but that clearly wasn't necessary. In One Kiss simplicity is the key, but we still are not left with basic EDM. This ode to 90s house music is addicting and it's my favorite smash hit of 2018, cheers xo 4. Anna Von Hausswolff - Ugly and Vengeful Close your eyes and enjoy this dark masterpiece of over 16 minutes long. Everytime I listen to this I'm impressed by the adventure Anna manages to give us. It starts off slow and quiet, almost as if the darkness and the ugliness of the song is slowly creeping on the listener, with Anna chanting some words that are not really clear of what she says. 5 minutes in we can hear her sing us words with clarity. Singing about how she's restless, in a tone that feels restless yet beautiful and haunting. At almost 7 minutes in the organs come in, taking us even further into the darkness of Ugly and Vengeful. Throughout the song we get more instruments added, as we are further taking into the dark world and adventure that Anna has created. Ugly and Vengeful is an absolute adventure and is worth every damn minute everytime I listen to it. 3. Mitski - Nobody Nobody almost feels like it sends mixed signals. A song about loneliness, coupled with a danceable disco beat and a simplistic but effective pop chorus with Mitski simply singing Nobody in different tones. Despite its poppy tune, Nobody is in no way Mitski selling out or whatever. It's almost as if Mitski gives us a look into her life, but manages to become relatable with a dance-able beat, becoming an anthem of loneliness. Nobody is a song everyone can relate to, with multiple lyrics seeing Mitski try everything yet Nothing works. 2. Mitski - Geyser Geyser plays out as a literal geyser. Starting off slow, bubbling up towards a rewardingly huge climax. Where other songs on Be The Cowboy sees Mitski represent herself or other personas, Geyser is just a feeling, a love song about feeling you found the one yet the one might not be the best for you. Geyser portrays emotion and feeling exceptionally well and only needs less than 2.5 minutes to portray its message. and my #1... 1. Christine and The Queens - Doesn't Matter (voleur de soleil) The perfect crisis pop song, I could write a whole essay about this, but I feel like what best captures my thoughts is that I just absolutely love this song. Somewhat uplifting, somewhat dark, and with the best bridge of 2018. As Christine gives us a danceable beat, she sings about suicidal thoughts and about ''voleur de soleil''; a sun stealer; someone who uplifts Christine whilst she is down. We taking voleur de soleil with us in 2019 for a great year,

Eeveelution Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Doesn't Matter is a big bop! An interesting #1 for sure. ❤️
Remmy Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 One Kiss Don't Judge Me is nice and chill, though it still sits in my DC bottom 3. At least it's not my least favorite like it once was. Oh, What a World yesss Also my favorite from the album, she really went off on that. Christine and the Queens is on my list of people to check out, let's see if all the hype I've seen was deserved
