theblackestday Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Moses the Call-to-Arms erasure ain't cute x MDM put Try Me on loop today, that was a classic
wabayou Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 3 hours ago, Navyofbadgals said: 5. Allie X – Super Sunset [SYNTHPOP/ELECTROPOP] It’s kinda funny to me that the first two songs released of this EP (Focus, Not So Bad In LA) are both great but easily the weakest tracks on this EP. This is an incredibly solid but also highly enjoyable Synthpop record.. especially Girl Of The Year whew. Would’ve loved if this was just longer and thus an LP but eaux well! 4. The Weeknd – My Dear Melancholy,
Remmy Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 The Weeknd: This one was cute, didn't really stick with me but it's still enjoyable. Kimbra: You really know the tea! Black Sky is the best one & Everybody Knows wasn't the greatest choice. Allie X: Focus is NOT easily one of the weakest tracks Oh wow oh wow oh wow
World Eater Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I loved how Moses kept it short with that EP, but it still feels very complete. Mothe and Crush were both great, the latter is a fair pick for a #1 spot
Eeveelution Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Solid top 10. Crush is a deserving number 1 The Weekend EP has received a lot of best of acclaim but I didn’t enjoy if anymore than his recent albums.
thecptz Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 i am a legend yes and i fall as sleep too fast yes also, crush ep i just got into her ep but i have to agree with you that it slays
Temporal Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Ouh girl, Liberation is a CHOICE. But the rest of the albums ranking is nice, glad Rae Morris is here. Astroworld may be a tad low
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 20, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2018 Kimbra's ep was pretty cute. Mothe was amazing... love the production love Alina's project super sunset was great my dear melancholy I loved Kadhja's album but didn't get into the outtakes ep crush.. Ravyn did that
Pink Matter Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Kilo, Abel, Kadhja, and Ravyn Great choices!
Bubble Tea Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I can't remember if I already stanned Super Sunset in here already - but either way, it's an AMAZING EP! In my top 5 albums this year easily. "Girl of the Year" is EPIC!
mokitsu Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 alina and H.E.R. mothe and ravyn that thomas guy payola'd himself into my discovery playlist with a vertigo song, it was cute
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 20, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2018 Surprising #1! I wanna listen to the #2 and #3, as they seem up my alley. How did you find out about them?
oceans Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 that allie b*tch is still alive? i never heard of her after collexxxtion 1 ajdjsks
Navyofbadgals Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 20. MGMT – Little Dark Age [NEO-PSYCHEDELIA/PSYCHEDELIC POP] Whilst LDA feels new and current, it also draws some inspiration from the 80s. The album overall was such a surprise because I kinda gave up on the band after their first album and pretty much just forgot about them (and I probably didn’t miss anything good oop!) but this is fantastic. The first 6 tracks are absolutely amazing, starting off with the opener She Works Out Too Much, an odd but effective opener. The rest of the tracks are amazing too, though the first 6 tracks are notably stronger than the last 4. 19. Teyana Taylor – K.T.S.E. [R&B] After Rihanna decided that the feud was over (after Rihallah also won with ease of course) she also blessed ms. Teyana with a pic at Coachella. After that blessing Teyana could finally make her first pieces of music that have some identity, as her earlier work.. is not it! K.T.S.E. is wonderful R&B album, and even better if you delete the only weak link on the album which is the opener. A lovely sultry and sexy R&B album with great use of samples. 18. The Internet – Hive Mind [NEO-SOUL] A smooth and funky album, I guess to some this was somewhat a disappointment? I kinda get that, the singles are undoubtedly the best (along with Humble Pie) but this album is so smooth, clean and funky and I personally really enjoyed. Probably even more because I didn’t listen to anything before the album came out so oop! 17. Tirzah – Devotion [ART POP/ALTERNATIVE R&B] Devotion is an unusual pop album with somewhat minimalist and repetitive production but also a very unique production. It’s diverse, beautiful and honestly a SERVE! She won with a lovely debut and I’m so beyond excited for her 2nd LP 16. Anna Calvi – Hunter [ART ROCK] Hunter pushes with sexual identity in a beautiful way, besides that it’s also an amazing album full of beautiful songs, creating a powerful statement of an album, and with only 10 tracks, every track feels necessary. If you listen to any track to this, I would recommend the beautiful Swimming Pool, which perhaps isn’t the biggest lyrical statement made on the album but it’s an absolutely stunning beautiful filled with longer notes of Anna.
Navyofbadgals Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 15. NAO – Saturn [ALTERNATIVE R&B] I was a bit scared at first for this album, Drive and Disconnect came out and I felt like NAO wasn’t really moving forward with her sound. I really liked the other pre-release tracks, but I was still a bit scared considering D&D is kinda one of her weakest track, if not her weakest. But Saturn is absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful albums I have heard this year. The title track and Orbit are undoubtedly her most beautiful tracks to date, and a sign of an artist who has found her sound but is still able to progress. The space metaphors are seen scattered over the album, but they never really feel forced. Saturn is absolutely stunning and dare I say.. better than her debut? Idk, maybe, it’s close. 14. Unknown Mortal Orchestra – Sex & Food [NEO-PSYCHEDELIA] 13. Kimbra – Primal Heart [SYNTH POP] Primal Heart is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable pop albums of this year. It manages to be diverse, taking subtle influences from reggae, trap and even posting beautiful ballads on the same album. Though almost all tracks have this synthpop feeling to them, tying it all together. 12. Beach House – 7 [DREAM POP] Honestly they already win by doing dream pop, which to me is just such a relaxing but beautiful genre. It helps even more that the music itself is good too. This is beautiful and honestly songs like Black Car? I almost don’t know a better serve. Sidenote but listening to this album while going to sleep is one of the best experiences I’ve ever had and I’m not even kidding. 11. Melody’s Echo Chamber – Bon Voyage [NEO-PSYCHEDELIA/PROGRESSIVE POP] I’ve always loved Melody’s debut album when I discovered it last year, but I was anxious she wasn’t going to release again. Melody’s debut album was released in 2012 and she had yet to release a follow up. Now, almost 6 years later, she released Bon Voyage. Whilst her self-titled debut is absolutely beautiful (and also worth the listen) it perhaps struggles a bit because of the strong Kevin Parker influence. It just felt like a female Tame Impala, which is still welcome but eh. Bon Voyage is all her and it’s a wildly unique and daring album that comes with new ideas. The strongest track here is probably Desert Horse, which is probably about her accident. Desert Horse commits to weirdness, feeling like 100 songs in one, and yet it still works amazingly. Bon Voyage also has beautifully done moments and it’s nice to have Melody back, and not just be a female Tame Impala.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 20, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2018 I have always heard of Melody's but idk why never really gave them a chance. I like all of these except Tizrah which I found underwhelming and Saturn which I found to be a reductive version of her debut. KTSE, Hunter, Primal Heart, 7, LDA :jonnY:
Vilppu Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 the 13 to 11 punching... you did that yes you did. teyana, anna and internet slay too i thought saturn was really disappointing, to me it's like that movie sequel that tries to do everything the og did to a much weaker result

I saw her when I was scrolling the new releases on spotify and I was kinda curious because I loved the artwork already. And Kadhja I knew from her album and I think I found out about her thanks to some magazine that did their best of 2018 more unknown albums from the first half of the year filled with more obscure albums. Since then I kinda stanned I guess hope you try it out 56 minutes ago, oceans said: that allie b*tch is still alive? i never heard of her after collexxxtion 1 ajdjsks alive and BREATHING top 10 albums tomorrow.. any guesses?
