volition Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 no shame is soo underrated overall but it does have quite a lot of moments that are pretty bad imo sophie deserves much better!! kamasi and pusha t gave excellent albums although one is definitely easier to listen to than the other and i liked accelerate.. but the rest of the album was not the t
Chemical X. Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 agreed that Pharrell doesn’t deserve so many lashings for Sweetener, he dragged Ariana in a much needed direction in terms of growth. I hope she works with new producers in the future, she acts like there are only three in existence ddd @ you dragging NAV in your ASTROWORLD review. it’s what he deserves the VanJess stanning the taste jumped out Cardi and Jorja Absolutely agree with you on Liberation... weirdly enough it’s the first Xtina album I’ve listened to in full and I love it she really snapped and I hope she can rebuild her legacy in the coming years. And I love Accelerate too

Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2018 Author Posted December 19, 2018 HONORABLE MENTION: H.E.R. – I Used To Know Her: The Prelude [R&B] This is highkey boring and the only reason I brought it up because I wanted to talk about it and her. I’ve loved her debut LP (which was comprised of her first 2 EPs). The fact that it got an AOTY nom is very random but I don’t think it’s not deserving. That was a great body of work. This? Boring af and I don’t really feel the need to listen to part 2 of this EP ‘’series’’ HONORABLE MENTION: BLACKPINK – SQUARE UP [K-POP] A nice lil EP filled with bops and bangers, but nothing special 10. Moses Sumney – Black In Deep Red, 2014 [ART POP] This EP is mostly about Rank & File, which is an incredible song. The other two tracks are nice.. but are barely songs and on the short side. 9. Kimbra – Songs From Primal Heart: Reimagined [POP SOUL] The EP contains 3 tracks from the original PH album but reworked, and Hi-Def Distance Romance. Black Sky is absolutely beautiful reimagined (also the original is fantastic too). The other tracks are beautiful too, though am not sure if Everybody Knows reimagined was the right track to choose 8. Kilo Kish – Mothe [ALTERNATIVE R&B] I haven’t listened to this enough, but it’s really nice with a unique production. I would’ve put this higher but I simply feel like I haven’t listened to it enough x 7. Alina Baraz – The Color Of You [ALTERNATIVE R&B] Alina is supported by both Khalid and Jada, but truly doesn’t need them. This isn’t the most exciting R&B work you will ever hear, but it’s a nice listen mostly because of Alina’s beautiful vocals. This is a solid introduction for Alina. 6. Thomas Azier – S T R A Y [POP/ALTERNATIVE POP] S T R A Y, a collection of 4 songs that served as a first taste of his 3rd LP. This EP is amazing and many songs are little adventures on their own, sometimes helped with deep basses like in White Horses. The EP also contains beautiful downtempo songs/ballads. His LP also came out but I have yet to give that try because I listened to 1 song.. that was not cute . This is great tho
Navyofbadgals Posted December 19, 2018 Author Posted December 19, 2018 5. Allie X – Super Sunset [SYNTHPOP/ELECTROPOP] It’s kinda funny to me that the first two songs released of this EP (Focus, Not So Bad In LA) are both great but easily the weakest tracks on this EP. This is an incredibly solid but also highly enjoyable Synthpop record.. especially Girl Of The Year whew. Would’ve loved if this was just longer and thus an LP but eaux well! 4. The Weeknd – My Dear Melancholy, [ALTERNATIVE R&B] A nice lil moody EP that is a bit more reminiscent of his earlier work. I kinda have a weak for Abel so oop maybe this is too high cause I will say though that it could be a little bit more adventurous, but maybe I should just expect that for his next LP 3. Pitou – I Fall Asleep So Fast [INDIE POP] Absolutely beautiful. A collection of mysteriously calm songs with a slight moody and emotional vibe. Especially the closer of this EP (Stay) has this mysterious vibe to it that I love here. Also the cover fits this so well whew. A really nice surprise considering I have no ****ing idea who this is 2. Kadhja Bonet – Childqueen Outtakes [PSYCHEDELIC SOUL] Kadja’s sound was described as psychedelic soul, but truthfully it doesn’t have a genre. Every track feels so uniquely her, and the outtakes from her LP have the same originality and special feel that her LP does. Starting off with The Watch, a great opener for the EP (and a potential great opener for the LP). After that we are treated with my fav song, Imposter, a self-aware and critical song. The EP ends with Wake, another beautiful song. The EP has this vintage feel to it, but doesn’t feel dated, yet it feels timeless thanks to Kadhja’s unique sound. 1. Ravyn Lenae – Crush [NEO-SOUL] My favorite EP this year is the very promising Ravyn. With help from Steve Lacey’s great production and her own vocal talents, the EP is transformed into an addictive and fun experience. An EP that is somewhat inventive and unique, yet still feels very modern. If this EP is anything to go by, then her debut album (whenever that will come) will snatch.
