theblackestday Posted December 12, 2018 Author Posted December 12, 2018 Thank you everyone. Next batch of EPs in the next post, probably not the best time to do it but **** it Rihplies 13 hours ago, Wicked said: The Alex G collab Great set!! Sudan has a bright future. He snapped, and definitely! 13 hours ago, Eeveelution said: I forgot about Ms. Archives, but I liked it. I cba to listen to Kamasi his three hour albums. Is his music actually good or is it just critics trying to look inclusive for praising a jazz artist? Honestly, for awhile I didn't bother with the album either because I wasn't here for a three hour jazz album, but I'm glad I did eventually because it really is fantastic, but I guess it depends if you're into that (not that I consider myself a jazz enthusiast or anything). you should probably be in the mood for it though. it works well as a night album for me. 13 hours ago, Avariko said: Channel Tres The black male yaeji of 2018. Sandy G's babylon > the original Absolutely 12 hours ago, World Eater said: That Sudan Archives payola I've been seeing everywhere lately may have just worked, I'll check it out tomorrow. LITTOL may be OPN's best release this year but it's still underwhelming in some way :kylie: Oh, and Channel Tres snapped We love payolaing each other 11 hours ago, Vxspertine said: My PC broke down like 2 months ago and I was struggling with my landlord and school, it's been a nightmare in the last few months Is the discord still a thing? I'm not sure if I'll be doing a list since I really don't have that many albums to talk about might just do a short list And I did it was cute, kinda lifeless tbh The Sudan Archives EP was pretty nice, the Kamasi EP might aswell not exist tbh Damn sis, sounds a mess, hope you're better these days / things get better a short list would sufficient, we need more SOPHIE payola hoe. Don't be ****ing rude.gif 10 hours ago, Remmy said: Great banner Favorite Artworks~ This is an interesting list, I'd say a good chunk of these are worthy of being on here My favorite three are probably SOPHIE's + the last two Thank you 9 hours ago, Pink Matter said: Can't really speak on most of the EPs cuz I never know where to find them From the HMs: I enjoyed both the Peggy Gou and Ravyn Lenae EPs (Sticky is my ****!) and I didn't even know Kay dropped an actual EP (I knew about the Robert Glasper project) so I'll check that out. 20-16: Haven't heard any of these I've heard of Sudan Archives but the music I heard from her wasn't all that good to me. She seems more like her aesthetic overshadows her music. Nnn, never too late to catch up although I wouldn't say this batch is the most essential thing, the next ones > The cover art did pull me in to her music, so that worked out well for her. The EP is flawed but she surely has potential 6 hours ago, Love Drought said: Kamasi and Channel Tres . I've only heard of a few songs from Sudan but I'll check out the EP Go for it, she needs those streams 5 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: nnn idk any of these [2] That's understandable as they're all flops 4 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: Oh the mewithoutYou EP was cute. Didn't care for Kamasi's EP but the album was good. I never went back to it though cuz you really need to be IN that moment & have time for the album. Yeah definitely. But I managed to revisit it a couple times already, it's worth it when you're in the mood 3 hours ago, Juanny said: Sweet countdown so far! Well that's good, considering I haven't posted any tracks 2 hours ago, volition said: Sudan Archives had a better cover than her last EP, but the music was not as good. Also, Kamasi snaps on everything he does. Maybe so. (x2) 18 minutes ago, Mark Rih said: Wait the navigation part in the OP is so cool (and useful) btw can't wait for some mainstream acts to come in your lists My mind, it amazes me sometimes! Nnn well I know one we both love in one of my next EP batches
theblackestday Posted December 12, 2018 Author Posted December 12, 2018 15. Aphex Twin - Collapse IDM, Footwork Quote Not a complete fad after all, he kinda snapped with this EP. Taking into account his associations with Jlin prior to the EP, her influence on here is definitely noticeable with all the footwork patterns of the songs and such, to the extent that some even sound like a collaboration between the two. I pretty much enjoyed this throughout and there weren't any weak spots. 14. Peder Mannerfelt - The 3D Printed Songbook IDM, Ambient Techno, Dub Techno Quote The artwork is ugly but thankfully that's not reflected in the music, cause these are some excellently produced songs. And I'm not surprised, after him co-producing most songs on Fever Ray's Plunge which is like, one of my favorite produced albums ever? You can definitely hear a bit of those deconstructed club, glitchy beats in here. Loves it. 13. Protomartyr - Consolation Post-Punk, Art Punk Quote After releasing my favorite punk album of last year, Protomartyr follow it up with this short EP, which, although doesn't reach the highs of its predecessor, is still pretty damn great. The latter two songs definitely outshine the first two. 12. Wednesday Campanella - Galapagos J-Pop, Art Pop Quote Ah I love this artwork, and I'm glad it made me listen to this because this EP is really fun and mellow. It sounds so.. gracefully composed and carefully produced, and the lead singer's voice is very soothing—so all that is reflected quite well in the cover. You get some bombastic moments like the opener and some more atmospheric ones, and it remains cohesive throughout. 11. Laurel Halo & Hodge - Tru / Opal / The Light Within You UK Bass, Tech House Quote I'm a sucker for Laurel and this short little EP snaps. This is pretty much the first time she delves herself into UK Bass, which is very refreshing especially coming right after her ambient mini-LP released earlier this year (will it make my list or not? stay tuned). All three tracks slap real hard. The vocals on the last track are haunting me often but it's worth it.
Wicked Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I'm really interested in AT lately (for a dumb reason ) and have grabbed his whole discog. Haven't listened to Collapse yet. I thought Consolation was enjoyable but I haven't gave it a second listen. Everyone having Campanella on their lists; I'll check it out.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I just heard that Wednesday Campanella girl song Bamboo Princess, it's pretty nice, I tried to check out ha EP
Vilppu Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 omg i didn't know protomartyr released, i have to check that aphex + campanella were good, i think you summed the latter up perfectly ^-^
Eeveelution Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Wednesday Aphex Twink is a talentless hack
ATRL Moderator Unoriginal Posted December 12, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2018 Laurel only #11? I am disgusted. Warned for rudeness

World Eater Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Wednesday Campanella snapped I didn't realize this Peder Mannerfelt EP also came out this year, just downloaded his album the other day thanks to How to Dress Well's payola. Now that I think about it, I haven't listened to any Aphex Twin release from this decade in full, Idk how is that even possible
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 12, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2018 Galapagos was a little disappointing for them, but I'm glad they're always changing artistically and not doing the same thing over and over.

Vxspertine Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I have to give that Wednesday Campanella EP a listen I've been seeing it everywhere The Aphex EP was cute, loved the Protomartyr EP and the superior Laurel EP better make the top 3
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 12, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2018 maybe I'll check it the swirly one n galapagos. I been seeing it for a minute
volition Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 The Aphex Twin EP was pretty good. Also, Protomartyr snaps on everything they does.

Tom Vercetti Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Another Laurel entry. Gonna have to peep that later. Peder's was an early 2018 relic for me. I Stan Aphex but if only the other songs on the ep was as good as collapse. I wish I liked Galapagos more but there wasn't much lasting impression.
Glassmouth Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 nice so far, I'm seeing a lot of Wednesday Campanella stanning lately which I really appreciate, knew they were SOMETHING

theblackestday Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 10. Jenny Hval - The Long Sleep Art Pop, Progressive Pop, Drone Quote Miss Hval returns with a conceptual (like all of her releases basically) EP and it's beautiful. Spells is probably her most poppy song to date, and from there she goes to the droney dark jazz fest that is the title track, which remains engaging from start to finish. I can stand this puta. Top: The Long Sleep, Sleep, The Dreamer Is Everyone in Her Dream Bottom: I Want to Tell You Something (simply for being a spoken word outro) 09. Moses Sumney - Black in Deep Red, 2014 Art Pop, Neo-Soul Quote I love the direction he took with this EP, it's very different from the calmness and minimalism of Aromanticism and I like this sound better for him. Unfortunately this release only runs for 9 minutes and consists of two (excellent) songs and an intro, so in that sense it was held back from being ranked higher, but thankfully, it all works as a form of concept of political protest as it builds up to the last song. Top: Call-to-Arms, Rank & File Bottom: Power? 08. Yuno - Moodie Psychedelic Pop, Neo-Psychedelia, Indie Pop Quote Kind of the surprise of the EPs here, was not expecting it to be as good as it is. Yuno writes some great melodies and I love the array of influences showcased in each song. It's very warm and summery while also being bittersweet and sentimental. Top: So Slow, Why For, Fall in Love Bottom: Galapagos, Amber 07. The Weeknd - My Dear Melancholy, Alternative R&B Quote This EP gets undeserved hate, obviously this is no Trilogy, but does it need to be? I love the fact he somewhat made a return to form here. This served major replay value for me even if I'm kinda over it at this point (Try Me is still a career highlight though). Top: Try Me Bottom: Privilege 06. Vince Staples - FM! West Coast Hip Hop, Trap Rap Quote This was universally referred to as an album but do I look like I give a ****? Because I don't. This is an EP in my book. I love the cute little concept of it being a radio station takeover with little skits. This is mainly a collection of fun songs, as Vince himself said, and while it doesn't contain any of the characteristics of his previous releases which had him experimenting with different sounds, it's still pretty damn good and I'd say is more enjoyable than Prima Donna. Top: Outside!, Don't Get Chipped, Relay Bottom: FUN!, Tweakin'
Vxspertine Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Moses Sumney did several things with that EP Vince being on the EPs list can't say I disagree though The Weeknd's EP aged from a 5/10 to a 2/10
volition Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 these are all really good, however some of these artists do NOT snap on everything they do
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 13, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2018 I didn’t like long sleep... found it boring ki fm! slaps and weeknd ep was cute but I forgot it so quick
