Remmy Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Listened to ssss snippets months ago but I none of the tracks ended up grabbing me I think I meant to check out MGMT at some point, might have to do that soon-ish.
Wicked Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Suspiria (yes, it goes perfectly with the film) & Little Dark Age are my favorites. MGMT with the bounce back.
volition Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 missed 2 updates whoops a laughing death in meatspace was pretty good and def one of the more notable rock releases this year i didn't like caution too much and i was even expecting to i think her vocals sound a bit too reedy for me maybe we stan george clanton we do s x4 was a flop but occasionally lykke malone snapped suspiria was an excellent sountrack for the movie with some amazing songs and little dark age is mgmt's best album!
Pink Matter Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 ssss, this ain't it chief I wish I spent more time with LDA when it was released butt I did enjoy it a lot (more than I expected to).
Vilppu Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 (edited) MGMT title track was maybe a little too good, it overshadowed the rest of the album completely for me but it wasn't a bad listen. thom snapped and you're obvs right it's his best solo work. i'd go an extra mile to add it's better than a v fair chunk of radiohead stuff too took it upon myself to listen to at least one album i didn't know before from each of your updates and god knows i'm not listening to something that's over 2 hrs AND jazz so birds in row that was and it was a serve too. i don't think many punk bands are capable of coming up with an instrumental as compelling as remember us better than we are (not surprised given this genre requires precisely zero musicality/musical talent) and as a whole it was a great listen too Edited December 19, 2018 by Vilppu
Sbbmsve Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Wig at SSSS making top 40 Her mind while writing Bad Woman... That was an experimental record that will surpass time. ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 19, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 19, 2018 MGMT served more longevity than I thought. It still sounds really good now.

theblackestday Posted December 21, 2018 Author Posted December 21, 2018 35. Melody's Echo Chamber - Bon voyage Neo-Psychedelia, Progressive Pop Quote I didn't care much for her debut, but this (overdue) follow-up is quite the serve and seems to be more fully realized. Love how adventurous and creative it is when it comes to the production and instrumentation, and even though her vocals are the weakest aspect of this album (she's literally just whispering off-key) they surprisingly end up complimenting the songs. Tops: Quand Les Larmes D'un Ange Font Danser La Neige, Desert Horse, Shirim Bottoms: Var Har Du Vart 34. Tim Hecker - Konoyo Ambient, Electroacoustic, Drone Quote Great soundscapes, beautiful soundscapes Tops: all of em Bottoms: N/A 33. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Sex & Food Neo-Psychedelia, Psychedelic Pop Quote I see why some fans may have been underwhelmed with the album, but I think it really requires multiple listens to fully appreciate and luckily enough it managed to captivate me and I'd argue it's as good as Multi-Love. It's highly focused but varied, and filled with mellow, subtle and moody jams as well as funky and even a few noisy bops. Tops: Hunnybee, Not in Love We're Just High, American Guilt Bottoms: If You're Going to Break Yourself 32. harunemuri - harutosyura Noise Pop, J-Pop Quote Alright, who let this bitch snap this hard? Up and coming rapper-singer Haru Nemuri is a small artist in Japan who gained global recognition this year after releasing this incredible rock album, which goes from post-hardcore to synthpop alongside quirky-manic rap verses disguised in catchy and bubbly pop tunes and hooks. So many standouts, like the title track which features what peak guitar tone sounds like, and yumewomiyou which has what might be the most beautiful piano riff I've heard this year. Her screams are so powerful and tasteful, metal singers wish to possess to energy she possesses. Tops: harutosyura, yumewomiyou, yoruwooyoideta Bottoms: nineteen 31. DJ Koze - Knock Knock House, Deep House Quote This album was pretty instant for me but the length put me off of it for awhile, until I luckily ended up revisiting late this year which reminded me of how damn great it is. It's a fantastic start-to-finish listen, but there's a bunch of standouts which this album is built upon in my opinion, and even though it could've been trimmed out of a few tracks, this is easily one of the best electronic albums of the year, and I wish I could place it higher. Tops: Pick Up, Moving in a Liquid, Seeing Aliens Bottoms: This Is My Rock, Music on My Teeth, Muddy Funster
