potent Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) NICK'S BEST OF 2018 It's been a while. For those of you who are Best Of veterans, you might remember me from 2012-2013, but since then I've been unable to complete a yearend thread (although I did attempt in 2015). This time I'm going to keep it light with just the 150 singles, although I might do my most played artists and favorite albums too if I have time. In terms of music I found this year to be rather average, but some artists really came out of nowhere and blew me away, and there were other artists who I had previously refused to listen to who I finally gave a chance. You'll see familiar faces such as Drake, Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, and Kesha, but there will also be plenty of lesser known music, so I hope you'll be able to discover some new songs. In an effort to make sure I do finish this year, I'm gonna start by posting the first set right away, and come back tomorrow or on Tuesday for the next one... SONGS: 150-141 I know my graphics look kinda smushed on mobile, I’ll post a recap list later on if you’re having difficulty reading them Edited January 10, 2019 by potent

JGibson Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 6/10 Thought Contagion + Love Someone + these are my friends + All My Friends + Love Wins
lhdang2000 Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Wow, you start already? TIA is an interesting case for me. I love it as an event, but as a song, I didn't feel like I would listen to it every day or randomly pick it from my playlist whatsoever. Love Someone is really great.
Brandon Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Baby & these are my friends are my favorites here
Tom Vercetti Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Nonstop's not that bad. I like the sample. He has better though.
Blue Rose Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 Carrie’s Love Wins is such a U2 ripoff. This Is America the video overshadowed the song which is a cute bop tbh
TheWayWeWere Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 I can't believe how Ciara's comeback was handled Dose is not the tea tho, I like MV, but it's still pretty dated Baby MV and Marina's voice I like Carrie, but her last album was so weak
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 11, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2018 Baby and Love Wins Excited for more!
Mr. Loco Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 This is America & Baby are both cute songs ❤️
Alldeezy Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 sadly dunno any of theses, but will be checking in
potent Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 ARTISTS: 50-46 So these are my top played last.fm artists from December 2017 to November 2018. Any ties were resolved on the basis of personal preference. I've been listening to a lot of older music this year so you might encounter some surprises!
Mezik Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I'm excited for this one, I love the simplicity in the graphics. I think 'Nonstop' was the only track from 'Scorpion' that I really liked from the gecko, although other tracks have finally grown on me. It had such an intense intro, that made me just want to get into the zone / stay focused the minute it began. Wish it was a bigger hit, since I think it was one of the stronger tracks from the album. 'This is America' was a political statement for a mere second and I honestly completely forgot about it. It's production is great, and the video was one of the best ones released this year. 'Accelerate' & 'Bed' were cute. 'God's Plan' is kind of annoying, but I think it's only because it was everywhere non-stop. 'Heart Break' is definitely Lady A's best single post 'Own the Night' ... but it was lacking something compared to their earlier work. I think they're definitely a case of they let success get to their head. As for 'Love Wins' I do like the song, and I don't think it's crappy in the sense that she's an 'All Lives Matter' type of person but more so it was heavily anticipated/promoted to be a message of inclusivity which was barely over the line of being a risk. I get as a country artist she needs to be cognizant of her main market, but she's flat out said in interviews that those who use religion to hate other's sexuality aren't true 'Christians' which was much more powerful than what this song tried to be. Also with the album being so strong, this song just doesn't stand out.
prézli Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Filthy Accelerate OVER Dose? Re-think this list.
potent Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 3 minutes ago, prézli said: Filthy Accelerate OVER Dose? Re-think this list. Anything lower than 100 is more or less interchangeable I'm still editing the list a little bit but as of right now there's a gap in quality around 85 or so.
Tom Vercetti Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Ariana > Nicki on Bed. There were better lead single options than Filthy for JT to take. I like Pynk the most out of this set.
Queen Conchita Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 This Is America, Baby & God's Plan are great songs
