Canada: Ed Sheeran #1 75K, highest since Drake

Ed Sheeran’s global chart-topping Divide album debuts in its first week at the top of the Canadian chart with 75,000 total consumption units (CU) that combine sales with streams.

Nielsen reports him having the highest one-week total since Drake’s Views tallied 110K CUs in its debut week in May 2016.

Notable too is that Sheeran sold 60K albums in his first week, the highest total since Celine Dion’s Encore Un Soir sold about as many in September 2016.

Sheeran also racked up 23M on-demand streams to claim the highest one-week total since The Weeknd generated 27M in November 2016 with the release of the Starboy album. The activity necessarily has triggered renewed interest in Sheeran’s back catalogue.

Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” continues to lead the way on the Streaming and Songs charts for the ninth straight week. This is the longest consecutive run at No. 1 on the Songs chart since Omi’s “Cheerleader” spent nine at the top, in June 2015. Six more songs from Divide are in the song Streaming chart top 20 this week.

that's because drake is from toronto. i live in ontario and every single young person here reps him so obviously drake will do more.

as expected the difference between 25 and Divide first week was smaller in Canada. 25 opened with 306k in Canada so this is 25% of it, while 13% of 25 in US.

He didn't. He only said that the only person he needs to sell more is Adele

He never implied in ANY interview that he would sell more than her. He was taking about his ambitions

Idiotic morons that don't know how to think for themselves/can't read keep saying that tho. Very very sad

he never said that, he said he aspired to reach her sales because that´s the highest benchmark there is.

too many twisted his Words just because he was borderline cocky
