Hos last aBlum did 200k debut, this did over 300k. And people expected More? Seriously?

Of course. He's much bigger now.

And yeah yeah sales declined, but first weeks aren't as affected by that as overall sales.

Why wouldn't they? X was his big US break and it became bigger latee in its US run thanks to TOL. Plus SOY is his Hello in a way, partly being so huge because it's his first new material since he made it huge.

Still good numbers, but i and many more expected more, like 7-800k SPS.

He crushes in UK and Commonwealth tho

A discount of a product doesn't gua4an5ee sales.  People still need to want the product.

Then why is million reasons tumbling down after the discount?! It does help a lot.

Maybe it it doesn't work for you or me. But it does.

2 big hits, one from the just released album, doesn't make a big enough superstar that can sell what people claim they expected.

I don't understand... How many "big hits" do you expect him to get? Nobody ever gets 6 hits as big as Thinking Out Loud and Shape Of You in the space of like 3 years. Nobody.

Adele's one of the biggest artist ever, and by your standards she's had only 4 "big hits".

Justin Bieber is another of the biggest artists and has been around since like 2010 and he's only had 3 "big hits" by your standards.

Drake has had 1 or 2 "big hits" by those standards. Britney Spears only had 1 "big hit" by those standards. Amy Winehouse has never had a "big hit".

Expecting Ed Sheeran to have a line of hits as big as Thinking Out Loud is just unrealistic, I'm sorry. The fact that he's even got 2 is incredible.

What works, that they are willing to buy it at a lower price?  Well yeah. Okay. But they still need to want to buy it.

i could throw a singlee out there at one cent, but nobody will buy it.  People need to want to buy the product, and discounts make a product hit that point  just as it does in every retail business.  I don't see anyone ripping apart the latest Jeans fad for a discount to move product, yet apparently when it comes to songs that people want to get a dig at, it's cool to flip off on discounts,

I can slso put an album out and have it placed everywhere, but that doesn't mean people will buy it (Ed reference).

Discounts are extremely good promotion. But of course promo always only works if at least some people like the thing that is promoted.

And nobody said anything negative about this discount? It just was unexpected and when some said that Rockabye wasn't going top 10 they didn't see that unexpected thing coming.

No one is flipping out. Just correcting your denial. I buy **** I don't need when I see a sale. It's human nature to seek a bargain.

If Closer does not get a 32nd consecutive week in the Top 10, I'm rioting. :rip:

But I thought he was the biggest artist other than Adele? He can't even outsell a B list rapper's surprise release? :deadbanana2:

silly people acting like debut weeks are suddenly all that matter. We all know certain artists shoot their load fast. Just as we know their sales very quickly diminish. I dont know how many times you need telling that album sales are a marathon not a sprint. To be judged over two years or so...not just one week cause it suits your agenda!

Plus theres a whole wide world out there beyond the US. If you bring Adele into it dont ignore global appeal. Eds last era easily outsold all the LOCAL male artists you keep bringing up. Both locally and globally. We have yet to see what this new era does in total. But I would bet good money on him doing better than Biebers, Drakes, J Coles, or Bruno's next or current eras.

I was gonna say. It's obviously a great number, but not really "biggest artist after Adele" level.
