Nicki Minaj Ties Aretha Franklin for Most Hot 100 Hits Among Women

Minaj debuts with "Make Love" (with Gucci Mane), marking her 73rd entry, matching the sum of the Queen of Soul. Plus, Rihanna earns her 58th appearance, passing Madonna's 57.

Nicki Minaj matches a milestone mark on the Billboard Hot 100, as she ties Aretha Franklin for the most total appearances among women in the chart's 58-year history.

Minaj debuts at No. 78 (on the chart dated March 18) with "Make Love," with Gucci Mane, upping her count to 73 career Hot 100 entries, matching Franklin's career output.

Most Hot 100 Entries Among Women All-Time

73, Aretha Franklin
73, Nicki Minaj
70, Taylor Swift
58, Rihanna
57, Madonna
56, Dionne Warwick
54, Beyonce
53, Connie Francis
48, Mariah Carey
48, Brenda Lee
43, Miley Cyrus
41, Barbra Streisand
40, Mary J. Blige
40, Janet Jackson
40, Diana Ross

Notably, and in line with the collaborative nature of hip-hop, Minaj has been credited as a lead artist on 29 of her Hot 100 entries and featured on 44; Franklin has boasted lead billing on all 73 of her Hot 100 hits (with much of her career predating years in which featured credits became common).

Minaj first hit the Hot 100 dated Feb. 20, 2010, as featured on Lil Wayne's No. 44-peaking "Knockout." She first charted as a lead with "Your Love," which reached No. 14 in August 2010. Minaj boasts 13 top 10s, with 2014's No. 2 hit "Anaconda" her highest-charting.

Franklin's span on the Hot 100 stretches from 1961 to 1998. The Queen of Soul has notched 17 top 10s, including the No. 1s "Respect" (two weeks on top, 1967) and "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)," with George Michael (two weeks, 1987).

Among all acts, the cast of Fox's Glee leads with 207 charted Hot 100 titles, followed by Lil Wayne (133) and Drake (132). Franklin and Minaj now share 10th place among all acts for the highest total. The Beatles now rank in 12th place with 71 charted entries, followed by Taylor Swift at No. 13 (her favorite number) with 70 career Hot 100 appearances.

No disrespect to Nicki or anything, but how do you chart 73 times and never make it to the top?

She knows she would become overexposed if she was getting #1's all the time so she is purposefully keeping it low-key

With the way albums debut on the Hot 100 now; Nicki, Taylor, Rihanna, and Beyoncé could be flip flopping this title for a while. I suppose with Nicki and Taylor more than likely releasing this year, they'll take a lead but never doubt Rihanna releasing this year and get another album out before the other two. Beyoncé will probably wait a few years, so maybe she won't.
