I'm not trying to start a confrontation, but based on the gains it has every day last week, I really thought CTTR would've regained at least 10 million of its AI by now. After losing nearly 20 M with Saturday's roll, it's only regained a little over a million back each day. Admittedly a small part of that loss was falling out of the Rhythmic Top 50. But if it's reentered there (which I think it has), then that genre boost would account for one of those one million. CTTR was gaining 7-8 million a day, even after its initial promotion day. I'm not the biggest Katy Perry fan, but I had hoped the opening song from her first new album in over 3 years would do better than this.

1) She's a woman in her 30's

2) The song is doing just OK in the other metrics, so Radio won't latch on 100% until she recovers in the other areas.

3) Gains over 1,5M are always amazing. No matter what.

Um. What? The 7-8 million daily from last week are rolling out now.

The updates are very good so far.

I agree with Brian. Obviously for a normal artist the updates are fantastic but considering who Katy Perry is, I think they're pretty disappointing.

why is IFIC suddenly dropping on radio? it lost over 1m AI across formats today and just as sales were picking up too :michael:

Yeah, and this overplaying of certain songs significantly narrows and reduces a station's playlist. Back in 2000, when "Smooth" had the biggest week of the year at around 8,800 spins, Top 40 played a much wider variety of songs than they limit their listeners to today.

This is very true. But it also plays into the idea that Streaming services and things like Pandora supplement that and are much more important in gaging popularity. Unfortunately, Spotify acts as a bit of a parasite by offering free tiers and is popular almost exclusively with one genre - hip-hop/rap. More than likely, the other services will start to level out the market. Pandora and Apple Music being the other big leads.

Radio imo is not a fair metric of popularity. Sales and streaming show demand, Pandora and internet radio are better because they're more diverse, disallowing labels to monopolize and casting a wider net on what is popular.

Awful callouts

LOTB's update today

Could this potentially top radio songs? It has the support of Urban and Urban AC as well as the usual Pop/Rhythmic/HAC, etc.

Obviously it would have to outlast SOY's reign.

So since this is rolling out the huge updates from last week, would this really be an update that's upwards of 6M or so?

I don't think it makes sense to compare like that.

It's a good update. Nothing great, nothing bad.

Sales and streaming need to get better than radio will be here for the song.

Not top 50 on any radio format so far. Don't really know any format that would play it tbh.

How was radio there the whole time for Don't Wanna Know even though it did mediocre on sales and streaming?

AAA sometimes plays her stuff :dancehall:

Radio never was on her side anyway (sans SS remix) but it could get some spins somewhere :'(

Her power! Cross genre queen!

Linkin Park's "Heavy" didn't get a single add at Active Rock. Obviously, the format obviously hates the original, and there are blogs on Rock threads confirming this. Considering LP has had more success at AR than Alt this decade, I'm not sure what they're trying to do. I doubt T 40 will play it anyway, but maybe HAC will though.

EDIT: More than 90 Top 40 stations added the song, and 30 HAC stations did, so I am wrong here. Still, it's sad to see such a good band sell out like this. Maybe it's the label making the call though. That happens a lot, and the format/sound change is out of the artists' hands.
