Graduation Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 01:01:21- MONTH:DAY:YEAR- Top 40 of 2021 -MONTH:DAY:YEAR 12:31:21 • Some things in 2021 were easy to predict. The Weeknd and Dua Lipa continuing to churn out hits? Check. Whatever Adele and Drake decide to release doing numbers? As always. Cardi B and Lil Nas X causing conservatives to clutch their pearls? As much a constant as death and taxes. But some thing weren’t so easy to see coming. Olivia Rodrigo arriving with multiple chart topping hits? Doja Cat cementing her status as one of pop music’s prime hit makers? Elton John having a number one single? Definitely not as easy to predict those things coming true. • Will we be seeing deja vu by the end of the countdown? The Weeknd seeks to become the first artist ever to not only have two year-end number one singles, but back-to-back year-end number one singles as “Save Your Tears” looks to follow “Blinding Lights” towards the path to the top, while Bruno Mars attempts to get his second number one - following “Uptown Funk” - with the Silk Sonic project and their “Leave The Door Open.” And Lil Nas X looks to follow up his year-end #1 with “Old Town Road” with one of either “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” or “INDUSTRY BABY.” Then there are the hits from Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo that dominated the countdown this year. “Kiss Me More,” “Need To Know,” “good 4 u,” and “drivers license” all land in the top ten this year. Will any of them leave the countdown as the number one song of the year? 40 Walker Hayes 9 • 11 • 8.3 “Fancy Like” COUNTDOWN RANK 31 • YEAR-END RANK T-36 • VOTE RANK 40 39 Silk Sonic 5 • 11 • 4.8 “Smokin Out The Window” COUNTDOWN RANK 36 • YEAR-END RANK T-36 • VOTE RANK 34 38 Lizzo feat. Three artists - Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, and Olivia Rodrigo - are responsible for 70% of the top 10 this year, the largest share any three artists has ever had of the top 10 in the countdown’s history as well. What will next year bring? If this year can serve as a reminder, we should go into 2022 expecting the unexpected. • Thanks for supporting the countdown all year. See you in 2022!
Matthew4815 Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 deja vu! Good Ones #3 on votes despite it's lackluster countdown run, what gives?! <3
Graduation Posted December 20, 2021 Author Posted December 20, 2021 19 hours ago, Matthew4815 said: deja vu! Good Ones #3 on votes despite it's lackluster countdown run, what gives?! <3 Info on those ranks at the bottom of each song: COUNTDOWN RANK is the song’s rank by amount of inverse points scored throughout the year. Each week I scored the top 20 1-20, with #1 getting 20 points, and so on. Levitating had the most countdown points this year, followed by Save Your Tears. YEAR-END RANK took year-end charts from streaming services, Shazam, YouTube, Billboard Airplay and album sales and likewise scored the songs 20-1. VOTE RANK shows how a song performed on the Top 40 of 2021 voting list. And the weekly top 20 also looks at streaming, sales, Shazam, YouTube as well as votes, so that is why Good Ones hasn’t been able to make it to the top five yet.

Will she become the sixth artist to make it to seven weeks at #1 with one song - following in the footsteps of other 7+ week champions Ariana Grande (“7 Rings”), Katy Perry (“Teenage Dream”), Leona Lewis (“Bleeding Love”), Lizzo (“Truth Hurts”) and The Weeknd (“Blinding Lights”)? HEAT WAVES IN JANUARY? Glass Animals had their breakthrough last year as their Dreamland single “Heat Waves” reached the top 10 last summer. Like “Levitating” before it, the song was given a second life with strong streaming numbers, and after peaking at number two in its return late last year, will this be the week “Waves” gets its first week on top? If so, it will make history as the longest run to number one (26 weeks) in the countdown’s history. SEVEN SONGS MAKE A move ≥ five spots this week, including “The Motto”, “STAY”, “Bite Me,” “Cold Heart” and “Better Days.” Which songs are closer to number one, and which ones will be licking their wounds? 20 Tiesto & Ava Max -14 | 2 • 6 • 13.0 “The Motto” RADIO X • SALES X • SHAZAM X • STREAMING X • VIEWS X • VOTES 10 19 Lil Nas X -2 | 10 • 6 • 18.0 “THATS WHAT I WANT” RADIO 5 • SALES X • SHAZAM X • STREAMING X • VIEWS X • VOTES X 18 Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran +2 | 2 • 18 • 19.0 “Peru (Remix)” RADIO X • SALES X • SHAZAM X • STREAMING X • VIEWS 2 • VOTES X 17 Justin Bieber +4 | 5 • 17 • 19.0 “Ghost” RADIO 8 • SALES X • SHAZAM X • STREAMING X • VIEWS X • VOTES 9 16 Silk Sonic -14 | 7 • 11 • 9.0 “Smokin Out The Window” RADIO 8 • SALES X • SHAZAM 9 • STREAMING X • VIEWS 7 • VOTES X 15 Drake feat. 21 Savage & Project Pat -2 | 7 • 8 • 14.0 “Knife Talk” RADIO X • SALES 4 • SHAZAM X • STREAMING 6 • VIEWS 9 • VOTES X 14 Charli XCX +1 | 14 • 8 • 14.5 “Good Ones” RADIO X • SALES X • SHAZAM X • STREAMING X • VIEWS X • VOTES 7 13 Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow +1 | 22 • 13 • 13.5 “INDUSTRY BABY” RADIO X • SALES X • SHAZAM 2 • STREAMING 5 • VIEWS 6 • VOTES X 12 FKA twigs feat.
