Not sure about this one. So, if this debuts with 225,000 in 2018 there's no reason to freak out. It will probably end up selling around the same if Say Something gets bigger. MDNA and The Beginning are viewed as massively underperforming eras in the US so they shouldn't be held as the standard and, even if we accept that getting to match Joanne is his standard now, MOTW is not reaching 600k pure if he can barely do 1/3 of that in his first week with Superbowl exposure. OT : I'll wait until the final numbers to weigh in. Anything could happen with this particular album.
Nova_23 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Weird how the excuses keep piling for Justin but when Taylor just missed 1989's opening, ATRL and others said she was over

Superbowl helps you sell singles, not albums. Also people, 300k-350k isn't the same thing as 350k, they were just vague So are you saying he would've done 200k without the Super Bowl? And all the albums that got boosts after the Super Bowl are albums that were released YEARS BEFORE the performances But seems like JT's predictions keep going down. Miles. Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Mess. This really is tragic, considering his last era smashed so hard and he had the SB to prop him up AND he catered to old white Southern women (one of the few groups still purchasing albums) with the country aesthetic. The album is really bad so I don't feel too badly for him.

But MDNA and The Beginning are considered flop eras (so as Joanne but let’s not go there) and they weren’t released the same week of the superbowl performance. And did Madonna, Gaga or BEP open with 900k+ in their previous eras (and scored a massive #1 single the year before)?
ATRL Moderator Azulito Posted February 7, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted February 7, 2018 250k would be good if he didn't just perform in front of 100 million people. When you put it into perspective, these numbers are horrible.

Rotunda Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 We really went from comparing Justin to Bey/Ed/Taylor to comparing Justin to Miley and Katy in the span of 72 hours...
kliamzJ3 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I love Justin but I’m sorry ...??????????????????????????????????? payback for putting Drake on that throw away ass track ‘cabaret’.

He ain’t reaching those sales. He is lacking in streaming and the album is getting bad reviews left & right. People aren’t here for it
iHype. Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 This album is NOT even selling 500K total without bundles
chris1991 Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 Lol I expect a lot more. It doesn’t help that he doesn’t have a hit.
KyIe Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 (edited) This entire thread has me weak especially the first couple pages all saying he would do 750k first week. 1 hour ago, Marvin said: 250k would be good if he didn't just perform in front of 100 million people. When you put it into perspective, these numbers are horrible. If we're being honest 250k is a colossal disaster regardless of the Super Bowl. JT was given the absolute biggest platform for promotion that you can possibly get with a third of the country watching and he only converted .26% into actual sales. His last era was massive and he had a huge hit last year. This flop is by far the worst of all the other acts this past year (Katy, Miley etc). I'm actually in shock. Edit: Also Migo's holding at number two with 90k in streams but only 5k in sales...I guess we can tell where the future of albums is heading... your faves will all be releasing 25 track albums for their next eras. We’ll update on Monday with the initial reaction and then again on Tuesday when we’ve been able to see how physical sales (including his Target-exclusive deluxe CD and vinyl) react. Stay tuned.
