If we use that 395M stream total for Bad Romance provided by BB, the song would only be at 9.85M SPS (and that's using 100 streams = 1 sale - if we use the updates 150:1 used by the RIAA from 2016-present, that SPS total would be even lower). Since we know that Bad Romance is 11x Platinum, it's clear that that number BB provided simply can't include YouTube. I can't speak to the accuracy of @GuusLima's YouTube numbers for every song other than those from ASIB since the YouTube charts page only goes back 12 months, but the streaming numbers BB provided definitely do not include YouTube. This can't be right, they only use US streams. Do you have receipts for this? It's well known those certifications for Bad Romance/Baby going Diamond were fishy, and probably included WW streams. It only sold 5 million up to 2013, yet was certified 10x Platinum, indicating 500 million streams. 500 million streams in US by 2013 is impossible. It only had 550 million views on VEVO in total, and Spotify was new. Bieber's Baby only sold 4 million up to 2013, and was certified 12x Platinum, indicating 800 million streams. The song had only 850 million views on VEVO at the time, and again, Spotify was new and Apple Music didn't exist yet. There's no way it could've gotten 800 million streams in America alone.

But how the hell could they have gotten away with awarding such incorrect records? The unprofessionalism...and the fact that they never fixed it if this is true.

I’m pretty sure Billboard’s numbers didn’t count video streams

Billboard would've specifically put on-demand audio. On-Demand video streams exist too (VEVO). Whenever they just put 'on-demand streams' they are referring to audio + video combined. Quote Drake was the king of streaming in 2018, as he finished the year as the most-streamed artist in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. The superstar collected 11.13 billion on-demand streams for his catalog of songs (in both audio and video streams) -- a yearly record for an artist, surpassing his own record of 6.4 billion in 2017. Drake’s streams were fueled greatly by the success of his album Scorpion, which generated 4.57 billion on-demand audio streams -- the most-streamed album of 2018. (Meanwhile, the set’s songs collected another 1.76 billion in on-demand video streams.) https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8493091/drake-2018-most-streamed-artist-rb-hip-hop
Pop Art Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 What a mess. Well, here's a more accurate US SPS list then given the new info. (The only ones that are exactly accurate are Million Reasons and the ASIB tracks, since the RIAA used 100 streams = 1 sale prior to February 2016 - I think the rest should be higher because of this.) Poker Face: 9,646,667 Bad Romance: 8,533,333 Just Dance: 8,513,333 Born This Way: 5,353,333 Paparazzi: 4,386,667 Applause: 4,246,667 Alejandro: 3,316,667 Million Reasons: 2,660,000 Shallow: 1,808,667 Always Remember Us This Way: 721,333 I'll Never Love Again: 666,000
GuusLima Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Well, I was thinking and riaa probably used ringtones, right? This explains why the sps are below the certifications

BNF91 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 it might just be me but it seems the madonna stan on mediatraffic always underestimates each week to the point where the total sales stand just under a multiple of one hundred. etc- like 496, 1594, 2295. it's his way to visually manipulate the perception of how big the sales are IMO.. 1500 seems much bigger to me than 1498 even though the difference is miniscule.
