Spoiler

this was sent to adult pop stations or whatever its called so it counts. on my first listen of witness, this song has stuck out to me because well, i relate so much. even the cringy line "you don't have to subtweet me my number's always been the same." the entire storyline of the song was exactly what i had gone through. 'save as draft' reminded me why i love katy so much; because its like she is able to read my mind and express my thoughts and feelings through music.

'save as draft' peaked at #9 as an album track, but after its single release it climbed back to #5 peak for one week, and spent another 9 weeks in the top ten.

first of all, cupcakKe is the LGBT icon we all need. although she gained popularity for her over the top raunchy sex tunes, cupcakKe's discography often addresses more meaningful topics, such as the gay community. 'LGBT' is highlighted by its slinky production, which is emphasized by the verses that are dazzling in stan twitter language.

'LGBT' spent two weeks at #1 in 2016, and spent its third week at #1 in 2017, becoming the first #1 of the year. overall, 'lgbt' racked up an incredible 32 weeks within the charts, with 14 of those weeks being in the top ten.

'love so soft' did two things for me: 1) provided me a great soulful bop, a genre i don't really pay attention to and 2) reminded me that i have been sleeping on mrs. kelly clarkson. now i have always known kelly's songs because she is a radio darling, but 2017 has reintroduced me to her wonderful albums including her best meaning of life

'love so soft' managed to notch in 2 weeks at #1 between 'sorry not sorry' and 'ready for it's domination. 'love so soft' also managed 8 weeks in the top ten, and has currently been on the chart for 15. i am so shocked that this did not end up being a huge hit for kelly in america.

Spoiler

i don't really care for pop groups because i think they're music tends to be washed out and manufactured. however, 'touch' is pop bliss, and made me realized that (for the most part) little mix does not fit that narrative. unfortunately 'touch' was only able to notch in one week at #1, because the next week 'chained to the rhythm' was announced and that was the end of it. however 'touch' did spend 8 weeks consecutively in the top ten, and spent another 2 after falling out briefly.

Spoiler

this is one of zara larsson's only truly great songs. the production is fire, the fast paced verses are incredibly catchy. this was another song i thought for sure was going to catch on and become a huge thing in the US, but instead 'new rules' happened. although 'ain't my fault' missed out on being #1 by 'touch', the song spent 22 weeks total on the chart, with 10 of those weeks being in the top ten.

Spoiler

Well Carly Rae Jepsen did it again, released a pure pop masterpiece. The moment this song finally leaked was glorious. In fact, the 2 minute long LQ movie version was played enough to debut in the Top 10 of my chart. However, the song stalled and declined because well, an LQ version just isn’t enough. Once Carly released the full version, Cut To The Feeling shot back up the charts, managing to snag a week at #1, breaking up Katy Perry’s run with Swish Swish. Overall, Cut To The Feeling spent 11 weeks in the top ten.

Spoiler

Now, THIS is the Gaga we wanted. Not that Joanne is bad, in fact it is actually a very good album, but it’s just not music I would listen to daily. The Cure however is, in all its generic glory. The Cure shot to #1 in only the second week of it charting, and it held #1 for three weeks. It became my most played Gaga song (remember, I am not much of a Gaga fan), and spent 18 weeks on my chart, with 10 of those weeks being in the top ten.

Spoiler

So when this was released as the second single quickly after Look What You Made Me Do, I was definitely team #LWYMMD. However, when I realized that LWYMMD sucked, I realized …Ready For It was a bop. Although, that music video was… bad. The whole promo schedule for this song was a disaster. Ready For It spent four weeks at #1 as well, bringing Taylor to eight weeks total at #1 for the reputation era (only 7 more weeks to beat Katy!). As well, the track pulled off 9 weeks in the top ten.

Spoiler

Another Katy song I was initially disappointed about after release. Why was I to think that Katy would give us a We Found Love type of bop off an album titled Funk Wav Bounces? However, I got into the grove of this track, which led it to lead the chart for three weeks, and spend a total of 10 weeks in the top ten. Although I wish Katy had more than just four bars, this song was a nice addition to my summer playlist.

Spoiler

I have mixed feelings about this. I really did enjoy it the first couple weeks it was released, considering it did spend four weeks at #1. However, after reputation came out I realized just how bad and corny and fake ‘dark’ this song was, which made it go from the top 10 of my chart to falling off completely. 13 of its 15 week chart run was spent in the Top 10, which led it to move all the way up to #6 on my yearend chart.

I noticed this trend in my charts. In the beginning of the 2017, songs did not need nearly as much plays as they did in the middle of the year to chart high. For example, Green Light came in the beginning of the year where the song only needed like 25 plays within a month to be Top 5. That's how Green Light is #22 while i'll only being certified Gold. Songs like New Rules and Learn To Let Go became popular during the summer when songs needed like 50 plays a month to be Top 5, which is why they have a massive amount of plays over Green Light despite charting lower then them. I guess its a flaw of my system, but then again its kind of how Billboard Hot 100 works.

Who could have thought that Tik Tok Kesha was capable of even creating a song so packed full of emotion and soul? The song is so powerful, considering all of us had thought Kesha would never create music ever again. Even after 250 plays, Praying still gives me chills almost every time. The song went on to spend five weeks at #1 in the middle of the summer, and the song has stuck around the chart since then. The song spent 10 weeks in the top ten during the tracking period, but reentered at #8 for an eleventh week for the last chart of 2017.

When the cover art leaked, I went on full stan meltdown mode, and almost shredded my Katy stan card. Gave the song a couple listens, and I was disgusted. How could you go from the holy Chained To The Rhythm to this steaming pile of garbage? However, since I am a hardcore Katy stan, I did not give up on the song, and it slowly climbed the chart until it peaked at #1 for one week, and spent 12 weeks overall in the top ten. It also seems like the song was a “grower” for most people. For what the song lacks in lyrics, makes up in the fiery production which makes me break out into dance every time. Definitely a highlight of Witness: The Tour as well (I was the Philly date by the way!).

Spoiler

I would have never expected before July a Demi Lovato song would chart so high and for so long, after both Cool For The Summer and Confident were quick peaks and falloffs. I have to admit, at first I was team #Fetish, but Fetish went from wine to milk and Sorry Not Sorry did the exact opposite. Sorry Not Sorry served extreme longevity, spending 15 weeks in the Top 10, reaching #1 for the first of three weeks on its thirteenth week charting. Who would have thought Demi would turn me into a stan this year? Although the title track deserved to smash more!

Spoiler

I remember I was going to stay up all night for this track as well, expecting Katy to drop Witness as the promo single. When I saw her tweet announcing Swish Swish, I was so annoyed I turned my phone off and went to sleep. However, I woke up to a treat. Swish Swish may have its odd lyrics painted in stan twitter language, but everything from the house beat, Nicki’s verse, and the catchline “swish swish bish!” made this track surprisingly one of my favorites of the year, racking up five weeks at #1 total. Swish Swish also spent 17 weeks overall in the top ten. This song was everything the gays wanted but didn't need.

Spoiler

If you followed my weekly charts, this comes at no surprise. The day of release for the lead single off of Katy Perry’s album, I was dying with anticipation. I stayed up all night waiting for the track to drop, and I was not disappointed. On first listen, it sounded so much like a mindless bop that characterized Katy’s older music. However, as the more I listened, I realized the underlying message. There is something about the message being in your face, but also nowhere at all which is what I think makes this song so genius. Chained To The Rhythm quickly became my most played Katy Perry song, and then my most played song of all time, racking up over 700 plays. The song spent a record setting 9 weeks at #1, 27 weeks in the Top 10, and has never left the Top 20 (on my last chart of 2017, it placed at #11)! Chained To The Rhythm racked up nearly 80,000 more points than Swish Swish at #2.
