witness1.3 Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 (edited) Welcome to my best of 2017 countdown, where I will be listing my Top 100 Singles and Top 25 Albums of 2017! To begin, let me explain how these countdowns are calculated. Spoiler The songs chart includes exclusively songs that were instant grant tracks and promo/official singles from 2016-2017. There are two reasons for this rule: 1) since my weekly charts are strictly by play count, album tracks have taken over the actual Top 100 songs (i.e. Katy Perry’s Witness album tracks all charting for 20 weeks+ each) 2) many singles released in 2016 had their chart runs split between the two years (i.e. Tove Lo’s True Disaster and Ellie Goulding’s Still Falling For You). As well, the Top 100 Singles countdown is based on point value. With my weekly charts, each position of the chart is assigned a point value, which goes towards their year-end total. What this means is that a song doesn’t necessarily need more plays than another song to chart above it on the year-end (i.e. Demi Lovato’s Sorry Not Sorry having 100 plays less than Katy Perry’s Bon Appetit but charting one spot above it on the year-end). Certifications for Singles are based on the amount of plays they have. The chart will be posted below to further explain. However, a single’s certification can only be updated if it is actively charting (think of it as that is how many plays the song had during its last week on the chart). Spoiler The Top 25 Albums chart is based simply on play counts. I chose 25 albums for my rundown because, well, I simply only listened to 25 albums released in 2017 this year. Album certifications are updated as they reach those milestones, since I do not keep a weekly album certifications chart. Spoiler Edited December 27, 2019 by witness1.3

I don't know what else to say, but lana and the weeknd's singing voices compliment each other so well. #89 Spoiler end game. taylor swift f/ ed sheeran & future peak: 6 (1 week) woc: 6 certification: silver points: 17,740 i could definitely see this song being top 30 on my year-end if released earlier. the BIGGG REPUTATION catchline is well, so catchy. Everyone hates on this song but tbh its the perfect single. #88 Spoiler dusk till dawn. zayn f/ sia peak: 10 (2 weeks) woc: 8 certification: silver points: 17,984 its just a nice song. #87 Spoiler cool girl. tove lo peak: 1 (1 week) woc: 31 certification: 3x platinum points: 18,081 this is the bop that deserved so much more. it was in my top 10 of 2016, it garnered enough chart points in 2017 to just barely make it onto 2017's year-end. #86 Spoiler homework. cupcakKe peak: 3 (2 weeks) woc: 14 certification: silver points: 18,226 i would like.mp3 to argue that this is one of cupcakKe's best songs. although its only an intro, cupcakKe's verses go OFF and prove shes an upcoming force. #85 Spoiler what about us. p!nk peak: 17 (2 weeks) woc: 9 certification: silver points: 18,633 really i only listened to this song for the production. Edited December 29, 2017 by witness1.3
Αnt Posted December 24, 2017 Posted December 24, 2017 So many great songs already! cupcakke, charli, gaga, tove, lana
witness1.3 Posted December 25, 2017 Author Posted December 25, 2017 (edited) #84 Spoiler shape of you. ed sheeran peak: 18 (1 week) woc: 10 certification: bronze points: 18,793 i actually hate this song. overplayed as **** #83 Spoiler bad at love. halsey peak: 15 (2 weeks) woc: 10 certification: gold points: 19,041 i would had never seen it doing so well in the US. personally one of my least favorites from the album. #82 Spoiler summer bummer. lana del rey f/ asap rocky & playboi carti peak: 12 (1 week) woc: 9 certification: silver points: 19,716 lana kinda selling out but its catchy and it breaks up lust for life's melodramatic sound. #81 Spoiler new. daya peak: 9 (2 weeks) woc: 9 certification: silver points: 19,913 kinda boring, I like Daya's other work better, I really only downloaded it for her name. #80 Spoiler meteorite. years & years peak: 2 (1 week) woc: 16 certification: gold points: 20,263 gosh I was so obsessed with this song when it was first released. not the best bridget jones soundtrack song tho #79 Spoiler shout out to my ex. little mix peak: 13 (1 week) woc: 10 certification: bronze points: 20,245 zayn kinda got dragged by the skull here. #78 Spoiler side to side. ariana grande f/ nicki minaj peak: 5 (1 week) woc: 25 certification: platinum points: 20,309 i feel like this was a drag at the atrl gays. nicki's verse is addictive and catchy as hell. #77 Spoiler starboy. the weeknd f/ daft punk peak: 5 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 20,653 the most successful single was actually my least favorite from the album. I eventually did get into though, but at like week 11 of its 12 week chart run. #76 Spoiler hymn. kesha peak: 8 (1 week) woc: 9 certification: silver points: 20,749 I actually really do not care for this dud of a song. i remember before its release some people were saying this was her "roar" LOL what #75 Spoiler cartoons. cupcakKe peak: 2 (1 week) woc: 5 certification: silver points: 21,222 cupcakKe really did tug my wig with this one. Exit was such a disappointing lead single, it didn't even make it to the bubbling under of my year-end chart. But Cartoons proves cupcakKe has the bars and visuals to be rap's next big thing. buy ephorize on itunes. #74 Spoiler strangers. halsey f/ lauren jauregui peak: 9 (1 week) woc: 9 certification: gold points: 21,266 My favorite of the hfk singles, but its the lowest because it never had a full single release. i don't know how eyes closed is slightly higher though lol. But who knew Halsey could make me somewhat tolerate one of the members of fifth harmony. #73 Spoiler bad liar. selena gomez peak: 15 (1 week) woc: 11 certification: silver points: 21,537 how this is supposedly "the most acclaimed song" of the year is beyond me, because its BAD. julia michaels is usually a decent writer for selena but these lyrics are just plain bad. I have to admit the chorus is catchy though, and my friend did a parody of this song using an inside joke between us, so selena is lucky it made it this high. #72 Spoiler 33rd. cupcakKe peak: 9 (1 week) woc: 10 certification: bronze 22,624 although the production of this song was stolen because of a shady producer, this song KNOCKS. #71 Spoiler mama say. betty who peak: 19 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 22,859 this song is slightly weird with those weird breathing noises in the prechorus but i still somehow nod my head to it. #70 Spoiler perfect for you. rachel platten peak: 3 (1 week) woc: 7 certification: silver points: 23,672 i think we can all agree that godly collide is better than this charlie puth "attention" rip off, but still this is a nice song from a great album Edited December 29, 2017 by witness1.3

Keep Up is incredibly catchy, but of the two promo singles, i like Collide more than Perfect For You. Halsey has two songs in the top 50 if that makes you feel better I was surprised to see Cool Girl here, it was just THAT impactful.
witness1.3 Posted December 27, 2017 Author Posted December 27, 2017 (edited) #69 Spoiler false alarm. the weeknd peak: 2 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 23,727 i remember this song got so much slander when initially released but that chorus was so addictive. #68 Spoiler instruction. jax jones f/ demi lovato & stefflon don peak: 15 (2 weeks) woc: 13 certification: gold points: 24,110 a dance anthem that deserved better. this song played in my exercise class at the gym and woooo it went off. #67 Spoiler i don't wanna live forever. zayn & taylor swift peak: 16 (1 week) woc: 13 certification: bronze points: 24,688 zayn's vocals are uglie and i don't think taylor pulls off a sexy tone well. so there's that #66 Spoiler barcodes. cupcakKe peak: 8 (3 weeks) woc: 10 certification: bronze points: 25,437 the best single from queen elizabitch has arrived. an instant favorite cupcakKe song. #65 Spoiler everyday. ariana grande f/ future peak: 6 (2 weeks) woc: 18 certification: gold points: 25,660 tbh it only charted so high because of its 2016 chart points from being an album track. it lowkey flopped in 2017. #64 Spoiler slide. calvin harris f/ frank ocean & migos peak: 17 (1 week) woc: 14 certification: gold points: 25,868 I don't know how this peaked kinda low on my chart, this song was addictive as hell. Although I think at the time I got into it, Feels had taken over so. #63 Spoiler eyes closed. halsey peak: 9 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: gold points: 26,574 i really wanted strangers to be higher but i have to abide by my own chart rules. but yes its a nice promo single. #62 Spoiler rise. katy perry peak: 1 (5 weeks) woc: 34 certification: diamond points: 27,144 i remember the first time i heard this surprise release, i literally fell on the floor. not even joking. first time I ever had a reaction to a song like that. I know Tove Lo is raunchy and unapologetically so, but even this was too much for me. It eventually grew on me though after its chart run. Edited December 29, 2017 by witness1.3

But do not fret, I know have several of their albums because of this song. Dancing the hard times away. #57 Spoiler still falling for you. ellie goulding peak: 1 (7 weeks) woc: 29 certification: 7x platinum points: 29,762 and this is the better bridget jones soundtrack song i am talking about. talk about a wig snatcher. Ellie spent 4 weeks at #1 with this, it fell off the chart, and it came back to spend 3 more weeks at #1. I don't know if that will happen to a song on my charts ever again #56 Spoiler collide. rachel platten peak: 2 (1 week) woc: 9 certification: silver points: 29,994 I LOVE this song. The best from Waves in my opinion. #55 Spoiler thunder. imagine dragons peak: 4 (1 week) woc: 13 certification: gold points: 30,159 generic as hell but what can i say, i have generic taste. #54 Spoiler woman. kesha f/ the dap-kings horns peak: 7 (3 weeks) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 30,876 me and my friends knock to this song in the car. although that cursed baby doll noise at the end kinda kills it. #53 Spoiler c*mshot. cupcakKe peak: 7 (2 weeks) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 30,876 we all love a good c*msh*t #52 Spoiler it ain't me. kygo & selena gomez peak: 8 (1 week) woc: 13 certification: platinum points: 31,040 I was really trying to hate selena gomez and not listen to this song but I heard it at a party love 3 months after its release and got into it. Could have charted much higher if I listened to it earlier. #51 Spoiler call it what you want. taylor swift peak: 2 (2 weeks) woc: 7 certification: silver points: 31,415 I initially thought this song had a lot of lost potential, could have exploded into a euphoric chorus of pop bliss. Although, now i think the simpleness of it plays to its strengths. #50 Spoiler not afraid anymore. halsey peak: 5 (1 week) woc: 10 certification: bronze points: 31,715 honestly not deserving to be above any of the HFK singles. #49 Spoiler i feel it coming. the weeknd f/ daft punk peak: 6 (2 weeks) woc: 12 certification: gold points: 31,815 What was once one of my least favorite singles from the album became my favorite. The production of this song is so chilling. #48 Spoiler younger now. miley cyrus peak: 6 (3 weeks) woc: 11 certification: gold points: 32,088 the lyrics were so relatable to me at the time of its release. I love the rain effect as the opening. #47 Spoiler fetish. selena gomez f/ gucci mane peak: 4 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: gold points: 32,458 I was team #Fetish when demi vs selena happened, but this song went from wine to milk. #46 Spoiler castle on the hill. ed sheeran peak: 4 (2 weeks) woc: 11 certification: bronze points: 33,750 my favorite of the dual lead single release, mostly because this one had actual meaning behind it. #45 Spoiler homemade dynamite. lorde f/ khalid, post malone, sza peak: 3 (1 week) woc: 12 certification: gold points: 34,281 I did not really like the original homemade dynamite, but the remix has let me appreciate the original. it also introduced me to khalid and sza, which khalid went on to have a #1 because of it, so, impact! Bubble Tea Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 Woo lord this is a lot to get stuck into. Normally I'd comment on each song I like but CBF sorry. Needless to say, SMASH bops I approve of: Million Grammys (not here for the lyric shade), New Year's Slay, Liabiligod, Lust for Charts (only slightly shady ), End Game of Slayage, Hymm (an apt title!), Flawless Liar, Everyslay, Woman (sick of making up nicknames now lmao), It Ain't Me, Fetish, Homemade Dynamite remix. BOPS.
AidanUnderYou Posted December 28, 2017 Posted December 28, 2017 CupcakKe smashing Bad At Love and Strangers deserved to be higher than the other Halsey songs that have appeared and yes at Taylor's best song Call It What You Want

I'm about to go through and type actual comments for all of them, so if you check back later you can see my actual opinions of ll these songs. 12 hours ago, AidanUnderYou said: CupcakKe smashing Bad At Love and Strangers deserved to be higher than the other Halsey songs that have appeared and yes at Taylor's best song Call It What You Want I think she has 9 songs on my yearend, the most of any artist this year, We love the new queen of pop! Buy Ephorize on iTunes. Strangers definitely would have been my top Halsey song if it had a full single release. Bad At Love is just not my cup of tea.
witness1.3 Posted December 29, 2017 Author Posted December 29, 2017 (edited) #44 Spoiler perfect. ed sheeran f/ beyonce peak: 1 (1 week so far) woc: 8 certification: silver points: 34,312 i'll be honest, i only downloaded this because of beyonce. but it turned a song i was neutral about into a song i actually enjoy. this song just hit #1 on my last chart of the year, so i expect it to be on the yearend of 2018 as well. #43 Spoiler now or never. halsey peak: 7 (2 weeks) woc: 14 certification: gold points: 34,506 this is a song i HATED when first released. It did grow on me a tad bit, at least enough to make it to #43. to be honest it probably only got there so high because every time it played my head was playing rihanna's needed me. #42 Spoiler love on the brain. rihanna peak: 5 (2 weeks) woc: 26 certification: platinum points: 34,834 and speaking of rihanna... another song i was indifferent about upon release. however unlike the song above, this song grew on me immensley. I used to practically sernade myself while driving to college everyday. #41 Spoiler bodak yellow. cardi b peak: 4 (2 weeks) woc: 12 certification: gold points: 35,706 the breakthrough hit of the year. I absolutely loathed this song when it came out. I did not understand the hype at all. however, then i went to college and i heard this song being played every 5 mins and realized what a banger it was. #40 Spoiler i got you. bebe rexha peak: 6 (2 weeks) woc: 12 certification: silver points: 36,634 the "i got yoOOOOoOoOuus" are really hard on the ears at first, but this is a nice pop song overall. #39 Spoiler malibu. miley cyrus peak: 5 (2 weeks) woc: 15 certificaton: 2x platinum points: 37,115 what a promising beginning to an era... this song just makes me feel happy. the second verse drags it a bit down though. #38 Spoiler disconnect. clean bandit f/ marina and the diamonds peak: 2 (3 weeks) woc: 10 certification: 3x platinum points: 37,526 okay marina must be some curse because every song she releases bombs, and that is true here too. now, #38 on the year-end chart is certainly good, however I overplayed this song so fast causing it to only chart for a measly 10 weeks. #37 Spoiler wolves. selena gomez & marshmello peak: 2 (2 weeks) woc: 8 certification: gold points: 38,056 this is my second favorite selena release of the year, behind it ain't me. only reason why this one charted higher on the year-end though because i didn't listen to it ain't me during its actual single run, there for it was already burned out for me. i feel like the breakdown in the chorus of this song sounds like it should belong to a completely different song though. #36 Spoiler love. lana del rey peak: 8 (2 weeks) woc: 17 certification: gold points: 38,140 i was pleasently surprised with this song at release. there is just some element to it that makes me feel so calm and relaxed. i was a casual lana fan before this but lust for life turned me into a stan. #35 Spoiler company. tinashe peak: 5 (1 week) woc: 16 certification: silver points: 38,907 this song just knocks so hard. the 45 second outro is unecessary but tinashe surprised me with this song. if only she put effort into her career... witness1.3 Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 #34 Spoiler no promises. cheat codes f/ demi lovato peak: 7 (3 weeks) woc: 18 certification: platinum points: 39,905 do you ever see a cover art for a single and just know you're gonna like the song? this is one of those songs. surprised its not higher up on my year-end to be honest, what an earworm. #33 Spoiler broken glass. rachel platten peak: 5 (1 week) woc: 14 certification: platinum points: 40,287 rachel's highest song on the chart. obviously collide is better, but this is a nice song that is in line what rachel's songs are known for. also a hillary inspired anthem. #32 Spoiler young dumb & broke. khalid peak: 1 (2 weeks) woc: 8 certification: gold points: 41,258 this isn't the remix verson, just no single cover exists of the solo version. i wish i had gotten into khalid earlier because other songs are better than this. #31 Spoiler tell me you love me. demi lovato. peak: 3 (1 week) woc: 15 certification: platinum points: 41,447 this song has grown on me IMMESNELY, especially after the stellar performance on The Voice. I could see this song going #1 eventually in 2018. #30 Spoiler so good. zara larsson f/ ty dolla sign peak: 12 (2 weeks) woc: 19 certification: silver points: 42,243 i know this song is generally hated, but i geniunely kinda like it lol. 19 weeks on the chart despite a peak at 12 is impressive (and for a while it had peaked three weeks at 18). #29 Spoiler some kinda wonderful. betty who peak: 4 (4 weeks) woc: 14 certification: silver points: 44,214 a pop gem on an overlooked album. #28 Spoiler lipgloss. charli xcx f/ cupcakKe peak: 4 (1 week) woc: 14 certification: silver points: 45,020 needless to say i was SHOOK when this was released. like i could not believe charli xcx had collaborated, and it was actually GOOD. although cupcakKe's verse could have been better for katy's bon appetit haha. #27 Spoiler spider-man dick. cupcakKe peak: 1 (2 weeks) woc: 32 certification: 3x platinum points: 49,413 this is cupcakKe's second best song behind lgbt, the production is insane and the verses and flow are incredibly catchy. #26 Spoiler hey hey hey. katy perry peak: 13 (2 weeks) woc: 24 certification: 5x platinum points: 51,364 i hate this song. point blank. although i am a hardcare katy stan, i will eat up anything she releases. i have to admit the song grew on me a tiny bit, but its still one of the worst songs in her discography. for singles #25-1, I have to created graphics for each song that display their peak, woc, certification, and points. I will also have comments below each one that are more in depth than my comments for singles #100-26. I hope to start that tomorrow (12/31) so look out for it! Then after that, I will start my albums countdown.
witness1.3 Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 Spoiler starting the top 25 countdown with Gaga's second appearance of three total on the chart. first off, this song blocked katy perry's 'hey hey hey' from being #25 by less than 1,000 points, so that's great! what is surprising about 'john wayne's chart run is its peak at #7 for only one week, and fell out of the top ten for quite a while after that. after superbowl, it was able to work its way back up to #8 and spend another three weeks in the top ten. this song was a slow burner, stayed on the chart for 29 weeks despite its peak in the lower half of the top ten, and most of its chart run in positions #15-#25. Spoiler i have dearly loved this song since the moment it was released. it is so much in kesha's original music with its upbeat pop tune, but its message is what defines kesha's comeback. also this song has served me an important lesson; learning to let go the unimportant bull**** that holds me back. 'learn to let go' was an instant hit on my chart, hitting #10 in only its second week, and reaching a peak of #2 for 2 weeks. so far, 'learn to let go' has spent 10 weeks in the top ten. if its pushed as an offical second single, it could very easily peak at #1 for several weeks in 2018. Spoiler the 'into you' and 'run away with me' of the year has arrived. is it a gay sin to compare this song to them? either way, this song serves the same purpose. orginally when i gave dua lipa's album a chance, i kinda ignored this song. i remember actually being kinda annoyed it was picked as a single. however, talent always wins. 'new rules' peaked at #5 on my chart three different times, and racked up 8 weeks in the top ten. truly one of the breakthrough hits of the year, I am excited to watch what du lipa has up her sleeve (hopefully releasing homesick as a single). Spoiler most people who have this in the yearend chart are giving this song rave reviews. that's not what i'm about to do. i'll admit, i fairly enjoyed 'green light' upon release (obviously because its #22). but i noticed in the chorus where she says "i want it" there are some background vocals that sound non human and totally off pitched. now i am sure this was a conscious decision by lorde, however its a bad one. all i hear now when i listen to the song is that, which effectively ruined 'green light' for me. Spoiler lorde's fourth and final appearance on the year-end just so happens to be one spot above 'green light'. however, i absolutely adore this song. i felt like it perfectly summarized the summer for me, since i had just graduated and was moving onto a new chapter in my life. 'perfect places' is my favorite song on melodrama, probably because it is the most un-lorde song on the album. due to tough competition, 'perfect places' only got a #3 peak for 1 week. but the song did rack up 10 weeks in the top ten.
witness1.3 Posted December 31, 2017 Author Posted December 31, 2017 Spoiler now let me be honest: anything with ellie goulding's name on it was going to be high up on my year-end list no matter what. Now this is no 'it ain't me', but it was still a great song that got overlooked. the music for it is amazing as well! 'first time' was able to squeak in one week at #1, before being dethroned by 'bon appetit' and then 'swish swish'. 'first time' also spent 6 weeks in the top five, before falling out of the top ten completely. Spoiler let me start this by saying: THIS IS TOVE LO'S BEST SONG. the whole song is just pop perfection, a burst of euphoria. because of its release in october 2016, true disaster's chart run was split between two years, causing its year-end position being #13 in 2016 and #19 in 2017. 'true disaster' spent four weeks at #1 in november 2016, so those 40,000 chart points did not go towards its 2017 total. however, 9 of its 19 weeks in the top ten were in 2017, which helped it make it into the top twenty of the 2017 year-end. 'true disaster' did not leave the chart until June 2017, after an impressive 31 weeks. Spoiler the song that finally ended 'chained to the rhythm's nine week reign at #1. although, for the same reason its why 'symphony' only lasted 13 weeks on the chart. don't get me wrong, it is a great song by a great artist and great group, but i had listened to the song so much in the first month that i can't even listen to it anymore. 'symphony' spent 9 weeks in the top ten, and its the highest charting song for clean bandit on the year-end, as well as zara larsson's second highest song. Spoiler an incredibly catchy song, that's about it honestly. i appreciate alessia cara's music, and this song made me appreciate zedd's more, because out of all the popular edm djs these days, hes my least favorite. 'stay' spent an impressive 12 weeks consecutively in the top ten, bouncing between positions #7 and #5, and eventually peaked at #3 for three weeks. Spoiler my highest charting tove lo song of the year, and i am kinda disgusted at myself. 'lies in the dark' is a good song, but its generic and anyone could have sang it for the fifty shades darker soundtrack. it is my highest tove lo song because it was released early in the year, and her new material for blue lips did not impress me until much later. 'lies in the dark' spent 9 weeks in the top ten, with 5 of those weeks being at its peak of #2 (thankfully being blocked by 'chained to the rhythm').
