Citrus Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Decided to do top 10 songs too since the Spotify top 100 thing makes it easy!
Citrus Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Friend Focus: @Rhisiart This lovable queen began her run in with me in Season 04 of ATRL's Drag Race, and she'll be making another appearance next week in ATRL's Drag Race All Stars. Her drag persona Gladys Lux Maure is a wonderful representation of herself - compassionate, talented, and always thinking about how to love and support other people. She gives a lot of herself to people on and off this site, and she's been an utter joy to get to know and talk with in our super gay Snapchat group. Watch out girls, Gladys on the scene (of my heart).

Citrus Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Fruity Films: 20-16 20. Murder on the Orient Express Okay, it's not the most dramatic or ~0scar-y~ film of the year, nor is it perfect. But it's just so ****ing fun! I love the classic whodunnits, and this one is a wonderfully crafted tale. From the sumptuous period costuming to the absolutely gorgeous scenery, Orient Express is a lovely cup of hot cocoa on a winter's day (though with perhaps a rather strong dose of peppermint schnapp's). 19. Lady Bird Some people will probably drag me for not having this higher, but I'm a Sally Hawkins stan, anyway. Lady Bird is a lovely and perfectly crafted coming-of-age story, but I think that's where its inadequacies show for me. It is a perfect example, its perfection serving to indict its equally prevalent unoriginality. Laurie Metcalf delivers the female supporting performance of the year, and Saoirse Ronan does fantastically as Greta Gerwig with a blog. It's a very cute film that will deservedly win some awards this season, but it's just not my cup of tea (I'll sip tho). 18. Landline Admittedly, I didn't particularly care about or want to see this one in theaters. An old friend of mine was in town and wanted to see a movie and grab drinks, and she REALLY wanted to see this. Most of my tickets are free passes so I was like sure, whatever. Going in with zero expectations was probably for the best, because this heartfelt comedy about familial ties and independence floored me. It's a terribly exciting and nervewracking exploration of sisterhood, pulling in and frightening us as we watch the two leads make questionable decisions and embrace risks we think we wouldn't dare. 17. A Quiet Passion In a just world, Cynthia Nixon would be one of the frontrunners for Best Actress at the Oscars this year, getting Sally Hawkins and Frances McDormand SHOOK. This film was really reminiscent of Paterson for me (another best of 2016, but I didn't see till this year oop), because it's less a story of an icon and more a glance into the mundanity of someone extraordinary. It's not the most exciting fare, but it's a wonderful character study and pairs very well with Dickinson's poetry (the film is paced and edited in a structure very similar to that employed by the poet in her first and second series). Support ha on VOD! 16. Alien: Covenant This would've been higher but I haven't had a chance to rewatch, which I usually try to do before I rank everything. I predict it'll rise to my Top 10 or so in a few months since I love the Alien franchise and have a pretty big bias toward horror. A lot of people had problems with Covenant, but the Alien fans are honestly the worst because they dragged Prometheus and then yearned for it after they got straight body horror this time. I was doing a short term work assignment in Washington D.C. when this came out, and I got to see it on the giant IMAX screen in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Seeing the (SPOILER) instantly iconic and terrifying back-bursting scene (/SPOILER) on a 100-foot screen at 10:00 PM at night was ****ing RAD, and that's still in my top movie moments of the decade.
Citrus Posted January 5, 2018 Author Posted January 5, 2018 Citrussy Songs: 10 & 9 10. End of Desire - MUNA Honestly, I could've done almost this entire list with album tracks off MUNA's fantastic debut. I was between this and Everything, but ultimately I had to settle on this beautiful gem toward the end of the album. I love End of Desire not just because of its gentle yet hard-hitting synths, but because its lyrics are cutely multifaceted. While at first the song appears to be about reaching the end of desire aka sex, a reading incorporating the above lyric video can interpret the song as the hope of reaching a point beyond desire: the emotional intimacy that lies past lust. 9. Malibu - Miley Cyrus I don't know why this is on my list, either, tbh. I lived in a really scary and dangerous part of town for a while this past year, and I distinctly recall one night doing some cooking with this song playing in the background and then hearing gunshots. Turns out my upstairs neighbors got into a domestic argument, and the wife shot the gun out the window to prove to her husband that she wouldn't hesitate to use it. The song is cute and reflective enough to calm me down after that, and I'm generally a sucker for songs about specific locations with meaning.
Achilles. Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I love Lady Bird, have never heard of Landline, need to watch A Quiet Passion, will probably never see Alien, and might do Orient Express tonight. I love that you’re a MUNA stan. “I Know A Place” was my favorite song of 2017. Dead at the story of your life description for Malibu.
