Quote

The xx scores its highest charting album ever on the Billboard 200 chart, as the alternative band’s third studio album, I See You, debuts at No. 2. The set earned 46,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 19, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 36,000 were in traditional album sales.

Starboy earned 61,000 equivalent album units in the latest tracking frame (down 3 percent). The bulk of those units were generated by streams of the songs from the album, as streaming equivalent album units for Starboy totaled 38,000 for the week (which translates to 57.2 million streams of the album’s tracks). The rest of Starboy’s overall units were powered by track equivalent album units (10,000) and traditional album sales (13,000 copies sold).

I'm really interested in seeing how the genre album charts will look when they are released in the coming weeks, and YES, I have confirmed Silvio plans to make the changes soon. Titles previously sent to the Catalog Chart (like Sam Hunt's Montevallo) will reenter on Country. So Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint will probably reenter R&B/Hip-Hop. Rock will be interesting with all of the older titles performing better on the BB 200 than many of the newer releases. I don't know enough about Latin, Dance, Christian (though I like that format) or Gospel to say anything for sure, but I'm fairly certain they'll see changes there. However, unlike the RIAA, I hope BB DOES NOT add in VS to the formula. Track sales and ODS are okay. VS would throw the chart WAY out of wack.

Is that the record for lowest sales #1? Or was it 11k somewhere a few weeks ago? I can't keep up these days. :dies:

I believe Views did around 8k in pure sales when it got its 13th week at #1 last September.

That sounds about right now that I think about it, thanks. :dies:

Sadly, this record may be broken soon. :frown:

The top selling album in the country this week did 36k. Starboy was #1 but not close to being the top seller.

Not really a sad development imo. Just reflective of changes in the way we consume music.

Just beyond the Hot 100's top tier, three songs climb to new heights: Big Sean's "Bounce Back" (16-15); Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" (19-17); and The Weeknd's "I Feel It Coming" (22-19), like "Starboy" also featuring Daft Punk.
