It’s the last day of October 2022. She’s just had the biggest album debut of her 16-year career, with over 1.5 Million units in a week. She’s just become the first ever artist to occupy the entire Billboard Hot 100 top ten. She’s broken the streaming records and crossed 1 million on pure sales alone. At 32 years of age, it appears that Taylor Swift has once again hit a new peak. So what’s next for Swift? She’s gone for charts over arts with Midnights (with incredible success) after releasing two universally acclaimed, folk-inspired albums during the pandemic. She’s still got 4 more re-recordings to release. Ignoring the upcoming Taylor’s Versions, where should Swift go next musically? Do we want a Midnights 2.0, a return to full-on radio pop, another arts-over-charts alternative record, a triumphant return to country, or opt for a brand new genre to crack? In my opinion, while she may have nothing left to prove commercially, I fear that a backlash is brewing and she will be forced to prove herself once again artistically. Midnights is far from her best work but it seems to have struck a chord with general public (but I’ve seen a lot of a less positive response from many of her die-hard fans). I worry that she’ll stick with the Midnights strategy given its incredible success, while diluting down her writing again. What do you want next from Miss Swift?

Kylie Minogue makes secret trip to London to play label bosses her new album MOVING back to Australia hasn’t slowed down Kylie Minogue’s momentum for making music. I can reveal she has all but completed her 16th studio album and secretly jetted into London last week to play the record for her label. She met with bosses at BMG so they could listen to her new songs and discuss the collection’s release – which isn’t too far away. A source told me: “Everything is being treated as top secret. Most people at the label didn’t even know she was coming. “She quietly flew into London to visit bosses at BMG. “They were really impressed and talks moved on to how they will roll it out. “Details are being ironed out but the album is scheduled to drop in the first half of 2023.” It will be her first album since Disco, which was the fastest-selling record from a solo artist in 2020. Earlier this summer I told how Kylie had hit the studio with songwriter Kamille, who helped write some of Little Mix’s most-loved hits plus songs with Jax Jones and Mabel.
