discussion Which decade would you live in without all the racists?
Jotham posted a topic in The Lounge
Inspired by this iconic quote: If you could live in any decade without the racists, which would it be and why? Personally, I would probably go with the 1950s. I've always been fascinated with pop culture at that time, especially with the Golden Age of Television. -
Which one is it? edit: I spelt Booths incorrectly in the poll idk it really (it's like a northern Waitrose apparently)

Florida!!! is a fine mixture of everything that makes Taylor Taylor, and not only that, but the fact that Florence truly elevated the song with her divine voice just makes it one of the best songs on TTPD.

Ive been on a daily intermittent fast for 2 months now and i finally weighed myself. I lost 13 pounds. It was hard for the first week or so and took dedication but i was fasting everyday and only eating 2 times after 8pm. Sometimes id only eating 1 meal for a full 24 hour period. It was a goal to help tone and lose more body fat but im already naturally slim toned but i wanted to focus on face fat and ab definition while doing cardio. Thoughts? Have you had any similar success with fasting??

The ads were posted on Instagram and used as physical posters in a couple of locations. A source close to the movie said the images help imagine the nationwide impact of the film's fictional war. "These are AI images inspired by the movie," a source said. "The entire movie is a big 'what if' and so we wanted to continue that thought on social — powerful imagery of iconic landmarks with that dystopian realism."

Are you for it or against it? I realized this was a non-issue where I live. It's almost always split regardless of gender, unless it's a fancy place/one party told beforehand they're gonna pay, it's almost never expected for one person to pay the bills. I thought with the gender equality and all this wouldn't be an issue but apparently it is for some people, especially opposite sex couples. I'm neither str8 nor a woman but I'm curious to hear a woman's (or str8 guy if any of u exists here lol) about this.

discussion How Many People Do You Text/Message with in a Day?
WildAmerican posted a topic in The Lounge
title. Was always curious about this: how many ppl do you generally message per day on average. I feel like my average is like 5-10 ppl per day. It varies tho, some days are just boring, some are more involved. But sometimes I see people in public who seem to text like 50+ people a day and are constantly on messages. This includes imessage/whatsapp / whatever your main form of comm is. So, thots? -

discussion Netflix's new film strategy: more about the audience, less about auteurs
okgo posted a topic in Entertainment
Dan Lin, the streaming service's new film chief, wants to produce a more varied slate of movies to better appeal to the array of interests among subscribers. Back in, say, 2019, if a filmmaker signed a deal with Netflix, it meant that he or she would be well paid and receive complete creative freedom. Theatrical release? Not so much. Still, the paycheck and the latitude — and the potential to reach the streaming service's huge subscriber base — helped compensate for the lack of hoopla that comes when a traditional studio opens a film in multiplexes around the world. But those days are a thing of the past. Dan Lin arrived as Netflix's new film chief on April 1, and he has already started making changes. He laid off around 15 people in the creative film executive group, including one vice president and two directors. (Netflix's entire film department is around 150 people.) He reorganized his film department by genre rather than budget level and has indicated that Netflix is no longer only the home of expensive action flicks featuring big movie stars, like "The Gray Man" with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans or "Red Notice" with Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson. Rather, Mr. Lin's mandate is to improve the quality of the movies and produce a wider spectrum of films — at different budget levels — the better to appeal to the varied interests of Netflix's 260 million subscribers. He will also be changing the formulas for how talent is paid, meaning no more enormous upfront deals. In other words, Netflix's age of austerity is well underway. The company declined to comment for this article. Now that Netflix has emerged as the dominant streaming platform, it no longer has to pay top dollar to lure auteur filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Alfonso Cuarón and Bradley Cooper. It also helps that some of the big studios are again allowing their films to be shown on Netflix not long after they appear in theaters, providing more content to attract subscribers. The latest list of the 10 most-watched English-language films on the service featured six produced outside Netflix. Full: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/14/business/media/netflix-movies-dan-lin.html
