  6. https://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100/1998-12-05/ I mean to see all those songs finally charting cause Billboard finally changed the rules to allow airplay only songs to debut. It still feels wrong for songs like Torn to have a #47 peak cause it charted months after its peak, but at least it charted.

  10. With all the talk about first-week sales lately, these are all of the albums that have held the record for the highest first-week sales in the United States on the Billboard 200. Which ones have you listened to? These are all figures from 1991 and forward since that is when Nielsen Soundscan (now Luminate) started tracking album sales. It is possible an album (such as Bad by Michael Jackson) could have held the record at one point in time. Metallica, Metallica (August 1991) - 598,000 Copies Sold Metallica's fifth album, released in the summer of 1991, was their mainstream breakthrough after making it big in the thrash metal scene in the 80s. Each album was bigger than the last in the 80s with 1988's "...And Just For All" being their first to break into the top 10 on the Billboard 200. As a result, their 1991 self-titled record released August 12th of 1991 debuted at #1 with nearly 600,000 copies sold. As a result, the album has gone 16x Platinum in the United States and is the biggest-selling album of all time in the United States since the inception of Nielsen Soundscan in March of 1991. Guns N' Roses, Use Your Illusion II (September 1991) - 770,000* Copies Sold Guns N' Roses's official fourth studio album (of some sort) was released on the same day as its counterpart, "Use Your Illusion I". The album's broke sales records as they were the most anticipated album of the decade, due to the albums being the official follow-ups of their debut album "Appetite For Destruction". Stores opened up at midnight due to the anticipation and as a result, the Use Your Illusion albums sold *1,455,000 copies in their first week according to Nielsen Soundscan. On the Billboard 200, Use Your Illusion II debuted at #1 with 770,000 copies sold while Use Your Illusion I debuted at #2 with 685,000 copies sold, due to the former including hits such as "Civil War", "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", and the lead single "You Could Be Mine". Since then, both albums have each gone 7x Platinum, totaling to a combined 14 million copies sold in the United States. Pearl Jam, Vs. (October 1993) - 950,378 Copies Sold Many people forget that in grunge's heyday, Pearl Jam was the top-selling band of the era, not Nirvana. Their debut album, "Ten", has gone 13x Platinum in the United States and America was waiting for the follow-up. As a result, Vs. sold nearly one million copies in its first week and stayed at #1 for over a month. Even better, their 1994 album titled "Vitalogy" opened up with over 877,000* copies sold in its first week, which became the second fastest-selling album of all time behind their own "Vs.". To this day, "Vs." has gone 7x Platinum in the United States. *Vitalogy was released two weeks prior as an exclusive vinyl edition copy which sold 34,000 copies. When it was officially released on all formats, the album sold 877,000 in its first week. Combined, its first-week sales stand at over 911,000 copies sold. Garth Brooks, Double Live (November 1998) - 1,085,000 Copies Sold The biggest-selling artist of the 90s by far in the United States held the record for highest first-week sales when his live album was released. The album has sold 6,017,000 copies in the United States according to Nielsen Soundscan, but was certified 21x Platinum by the RIAA due to it shipping 10.5 million copies. Since it's a double album, each shipment is counted twice. Backstreet Boys, Millennium (May 1999) - 1,134,000 Copies Sold Now we enter the era where teen-pop oriented acts are breaking first-week sales, a sharp difference compared to hard rock bands owning first-week sales. Millennium sold 500,000 copies in its first day alone and sold 9,445,732 copies in its first year. The album topped the Billboard 200 for 10 non-consecutive weeks and has gone 13x platinum in the United States. The album features massive hits such as "I Want it That Way", "Larger than Life", and "Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely". Their follow-up album, titled Black & Blue, also debuted with over one million copies sold, making the band the first artist to have multiple million-selling debuts. *Nsync, No Strings Attached (March 2000) - 2,400,000 Copies Sold The album was a mammoth success, shipping more than 9 million copies in its first week, and with record stores already re-ordering the album halfway through its first week. Fans were hyped, and as a result, many bought in bulk to help the band break their rival's first-week sales record. According to Billboard, No Strings Attached was the biggest album of the 00s decade and has sold 14,500,000 copies in pure sales. Adele, 25 (November 2015) - 3,480,000 Units Sold We were all alive for this one, so it should be no surprise the current record holder is Adele's 25. The album was the follow-up to 21, one of the biggest albums of all time and by far the biggest album of the last decade. As a result, its follow-up sold 2.43 million in its first four days alone, shattering the first-week sales record in the United States. The album has gone 11x Platinum in the United States has was the second biggest-selling album of the decade, behind her own 21.
