Ahead of the issue dropping next week, when the full interview will also land on musicweek.com, we're sharing some highlights from an extra special cover story. Dua Lipa on making Radical Optimism "It was about being able to dictate. Before, I wasn't as confident in my craft. I definitely feel so much better about who I am as an artist and a songwriter, what I want to do and say and how I want to say it." Dua Lipa on taking control "I think I trusted that other people knew better than me, and in some ways they did because they were more experienced. But I've just been learning to follow my gut and do the learning myself, rather than rely on other people's knowledge." Dua Lipa on Radical22 "It's about having control over my music, having the final say over what happens to it. As an artist, it's important to understand that this is a business." Dua Lipa on Glastonbury "Glastonbury has always been the pinnacle. It's my favorite festival. I'm so grateful for the trust that Emily [Eavis] has put in me and I'll make sure it's great. It's the biggest show of my life, so I'm gonna make sure I don't **** it up!" Dua Lipa on Joe Kentish "I wouldn't have been able to do this without him. I love it when he comes into the studio – he's someone who I really want to impress, so every time I play Joe music, I hear things differently and realise what needs to change without him even saying anything." Dua Lipa on being a 'pop star' "People want you to speak out about things that you believe in, create a safe space for fans, or talk about current issues or activism. But at the same time, a lot of people want you to not do that and they want their pop stars to just be very quiet, like, 'Just sing your song and don't get involved in politics.'" Dua Lipa on the music business "I think that people mistake artists as being away with the fairies, because we are preoccupied with the creative side and that's the only thing we really want to be doing. People take advantage of that a lot. People are proper charlatans and they'll try it!" Direct link: https://www.musicweek.com/media/read/dua-lipa-covers-the-may-issue-of-music-week/089626

She just posted a thank you note about her coachella performance, and after 10 minutes of posting she went out of her way to edit the post and added a paragraph where she lightly dragged her ex-tour manager for ghosting her, in her usual passive-agressive fashion, allegedly she also had laryngitis. "Emily for stepping up as tour manager when Pete quit for no reason after 15 years because he was butt hurt that I got 10 comped bikes for free from Wally and randomly decided he was more of a stage designer than a tour manager... Never got a phone call probably never will. Still grateful for the 15 years though. No worries – 37 days was more than enough time to put together an entire headlining set all by ourselves. Not stressful at all. Way to go Emily you ******* killed it with grace." https://www.instagram.com/p/C52gnhyuY_p/?img_index=1

Kelly Ripa Is on the 2024 TIME100 List | TIME Like Ginger Rogers dancing backwards and in heels, Kelly Ripa makes co-hosting one of the most popular daytime talk shows on TV look effortless. But let's be clear: it's not. When I've filled in as her co-host it's taken me days to come up with enough material for one 15-minute opening chat segment. Kelly has been nailing those day after day, month after month, for almost 24 years now, regaling us with entertaining stories, making us laugh, and sharing the ups and downs of her public and private life. Doing that on live television—without a script—takes remarkable talent, not to mention guts, grit, hard work, and heart. Kelly is impossibly self-deprecating and would never admit it, but she is one of the greatest broadcasters in television history, and she continues to reach new heights. She wrote a best-selling memoir, started a popular podcast, and welcomed a new co-host, her husband of nearly 28 years, Mark Consuelos. Would audiences want to watch a happily married couple who've raised three genuinely good kids? Yes. The ratings are up, and Kelly has never been better.
