  1. After a career in the public eye with huge chart hits, lauded Broadway performances and a much-beloved song in ’90s Disney classic, R&B star Tevin Campbell is ready to let fans in on a part of his personal life. In a new interview on the PEOPLE Every Day podcast, Campbell confirmed that he identifies as a gay man, and took a look back on what led him to officially opening up to his fans. Fans have long speculated about Campbell’s sexuality, but the singer has kept his private life out of the public eye since the inception of his career. But that speculation came to a head earlier this year when Campbell tweeted (and later deleted) the phrase “Tevin is…” followed by a rainbow flag emoji. The singer signed his first major label record deal with Warner Music back in 1991, releasing his debut album T.E.V.I.N. to critical acclaim. Song such as “Can We Talk” and “Tell Me What You Want Me to Do” would go on to break into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Many fans also know Campbell as the voice of Powerline from 1995’s A Goofy Movie. Campbell, who referred to himself as a “former child star,” revealed that throughout his early years in the industry, he never really concealed his identity from those around him. “I didn’t hide anything about me. I didn’t try to act a certain way or anything,” he said. “You just couldn’t be [gay] back then.” It wasn’t until 2005, when he appeared as Seaweed J. Stubbs in the Broadway musical Hairspray, that Campbell says he felt he’d truly found himself. “Being around people who were like me, LGBTQ+ people that were living normal lives and had partners. I had never seen that,” he said. “That was a great time in my life.” The “I 2 I” singer also praised stars such as Lil Nas X and Frank Ocean, who have found success in R&B and hip-hop while also being openly queer. “It wasn’t like that in the ’90s, but I’m glad I get to see it. I’m glad that’s changing,” he said. “There are a lot of kids, especially young Black boys that need to see representation. They’re not being taught to love themselves because of who they are.” Congrats Stream his biggest hits:

  6. Chris, the French singer previously known as Christine and the Queens, has recently expanded his artistic moniker to Christine and the Queens presents Redcar, a PR representative for the artist confirmed. He spoke about the name change, as well as his gender journey, in a TikTok video posted on August 18. In the 3-minute video, which is entirely in French, Chris says that he has been more masculine in his gender presentation for about a year and has been out about his identity to family and close friends. He called the gender journey a “long process.” Chris has been sharing this exploration of his identity with the press slowly over time, including in a New York Times interview in March. “My journey with gender has always been tumultuous. It’s raging right now, as I’m just exploring what is beyond this,” he said at the time. “I kind of want to tear down that system that made us label genders in such a strict way.” Source

  13. However, “Super Freaky Girl” has Dr. Luke’s name in the credits, making Nicki the first non-Kemosabe artist to lift the producer to the top of the Hot 100 since Kesha sued him for sexual assault and civil harassment in 2014. (The case was ultimately dismissed in New York in 2016 and denied on appeal in 2018 — Dr. Luke subsequently countersued for defamation, in a case that is still ongoing, with Kesha pursuing a counterclaim.) Whether or not he was actually involved in the creation of this song, this is Nicki’s third No. 1 hit to be attached to a figure with sexual assault allegations against them — Dr. Luke also has writing and production credits on “Say So,” and 6ix9ine (“TROLLZ”) pleaded guilty to the use of a child in a sexual performance in 2015. Nicki willingly aligning herself with this kind of distasteful company dampens any celebratory feelings about her No. 1 achievements. Andrew Unterberger: Like a 6. It’s meaningful to her and to her fans, for sure, but I think her first two No. 1s coming with “Say So” and “Trollz” — neither of which will be among the first 20 songs anyone associates with Nicki Minaj 10 years from now — shows that judging an artist’s pop legacy through the lens of “Do they have a No. 1 or not?” is always going to be a little silly. It will ultimately mean more for Minaj’s legacy if “Super Freaky Girl” endures as one of the year’s defining hits and one of her own signature pop songs — which it very well may, as early signs are encouraging, but it’s still a little too early to say for sure there. (And the presence of Dr. Luke in the credits does indeed make it a bit harder to root for than it might have been otherwise.) https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/nicki-minaj-super-freaky-girl-five-burning-questions-1235129795/
