  1. For several decades now, MTV has presented the Vanguard Award to artists to celebrate their body of work and status as pop icons. Shakira and Kylie have both been around for decades, coming back again and again to deliver pop excellence in both audio and visual mediums. This year, both have added exciting new chapters to their already storied careers, which would make it a prime opportunity to add the Vanguard Award to their trophy shelves. Shakira is the Queen of Youtube, with a ton of massive videos under her belt. Kylie may not have the numbers numbers or sustained American success to merit a Vanguard Award, but she is nonetheless a highly influential pop icon and this recognition would be a great opportunity to honor an outstanding pop star who has largely flown under the radar stateside. I think Shakira is probably the more logical of the two, but there will probably never be a better opportunity to honor Kylie if they’re ever going to… What do you think, ATRL? Should Kylie or Shakira be presented the MTV Vanguard Award this autumn?
  2. So many gems, future classics and hit singles that could've been that she let getaway from her for some reason. Let's correct that! #AL8 coming soon I hope 🙏🏽
  3. this performance still lives rent free in my mind da last 17 years da way I lost it when I heard her sing You Thrill Me. It had been over 10 years for me this performance is top 5 of her career
  4. I feel like the older I get, the more okay I am with having friends with differing politics than me. In fact, I feel like it’s actually good because I get to broaden my own political horizons, and whether I agree with them or not it’s always interesting to see why people think the way they do. Often times, they also learn stuff from me too, which is nice (and selfishly is probably the best way to change someone’s political views as opposed to being their enemy). What about you guys? Can you be friends with someone who has different politics than you, whether it be moderate differences or huge differences?

Ariana gains 450k ig followers amid drama

Instead of receiving backlash, Ariana has just gained 450k new followers on ig. And Doja has been losing similar followers for attacking her fans on Twitter? Why is Ariana gaining followers while Doja is losing them? Can someone explain?
  8. People like to say that Greatest Hits albums are very much a thing of the past, as streaming took over and people can put together their own playlists, etc. But the Weeknd released a greatest hits album (The Highlights) in 2021 and it was really successful, going Platinum in several countries. Why did he succeed with that? And can GH albums overall make a return?

This is Adele's best song. Why?

When you have Rolling In The Deep, Don't You Remember, Someone Like You on the same album and still created a song that objectively topped them. Wow. The song that pushed 21 to the 30 million threshold. There is something ethereal and visceral about this song that I can't explain.

  15. With Margot Robbie being booked and busy that ever before and going viral almost everyday with her acclaimed performance as Barbie, a lot of her peers may feel threatened or jealous by her meteoric rise to superstardom. She already has 2 Oscar nominations, iconic roles, box office smashes and a large global fan base of both the GeePee and the gheys. Who do you think among her contemporaries are not feeling her and are fuming?

  20. ... and both are studying humans by directly inserting themselves into society as two different types of humans. one living, in a very alienated world, with a very private and long relationship, and kids as an added accesory, studying close human to human interactions/relationships over the years and then translating it into the world's universal language, music. meanwhile the second, Taylor Swift, also being very alienated from society, studying how short term relationships between humans work and trying to find the easiest way to communicate a univeral message, also through music. hence the reveal of Alien life during both of their very similar, record breaking tours. taking the focus off the actual news.
  21. Do we as stans place too much importance on pop girls music being dated, a production of its time, aged, etc? Like that doesn't render the material useless, unenjoyable, or even "bad". Yes it's great if a pop girl makes an album that exists in a space of its own, but it's not a inherently a bad thing to create something of its time. Teenage Dream comes to mind, and that album ended up defining its time and era in pop music history. Or is it not that serious?
