base talk Avril's label gave her 6 months to record "Under My Skin". Shook?

Like 6 months and she gave us this masterpiece My Happy Ending was the last single recorded and when she told her label she has the lead single, they told her no we're going with "Don't Tell Me" The first album was so successful that Lavigne says she only had six months to write 2004’s Under My Skin: “They made me put it out before I was ready.” She and co-writer Butch Walker kept writing until the last minute, producing the bittersweet grunge anthem My Happy Ending. “I called them and I said: ‘Guys, I have the first single.’ They’re like: ‘No, we’re going with Don’t Tell Me.’” Arista led with their choice but Lavigne was right: My Happy Ending peaked higher and sold almost three times as many copies. -

Both Kesha and Dev came out of the pop scene at the same time and popularized the party girl and electronica pop genre of the early 2010s. Yet why is it that it was Kesha who prevailed over Dev, becoming the Madonna to Dev’s Cyndi Lauper? What made the GeePee gravitate towards Kesha even though Dev had hits of her own like Like A G6 and Bass Down Low and was tagged as “The Next Kesha”? What happened? What went wrong?

I mean...i won't even say anything. Her track record is just impeccable specially since her 1994 album Kylie Minogue Tension - Tension (2023) Disco - Magic (2020) Golden - Stop Me From Falling (2018) Kiss Me Once - I Was Gonna Cancel (2014) Aphrodite - Get Outta My Way (2010) X - In My Arms (2008) (or Wow in the UK) Ultimate Kylie - Giving You Up (2005) Body Language - Red Blooded Woman (2004) Fever - In Your Eyes (2002) Light Years - On A Night Like This (2000) Impossible Princess - You Did It Again (1997) Kylie Minogue - Put Yourself In My Place (1994) Some of these are even better than the first singles from their parent albums i-

I think it’s time to acknowledge and give Sabrina her flowers for releasing her powerful anthem Skin, which served as a response to the attacks against her not just by one party, but from the GeePee as well, who painted her as a villain… the Angelina Jolie of generation Z. In making a song to respond to the accusations, she could have retaliated and went low with her lashings against Olivia. Yet she chose to be classy and dignified with her lyricism. She sings about how she and Olivia could have ignored the noise and have been friends in spite of winning Joshua. She thinks about comforting Olivia that her feelings are valid and that her anger will pass over time. In a way, she showed great maturity that is lacking in the clap backs in pop and really wanted to grow as an artist and person.

A good or bad album can make or break a whole career, no matter how big the star is. Album eras often define the public perception of an artist, by the music, its commercial performance or imagery. What are some albums you think were confusing choices for an MPG to release at a given point in their career? Here's mine: Joanne Joanne is a very confusing album to me. The hype in the run-up to this era was undeniable, Gaga had spent the previous few years working hard to redefine her public image, fan theories for the project went anywhere from a return to BTW style "dark pop" to a full metal record, there was an incredible amount of pressure to stick her landing after the drama surrounding ARTPOP and the associated cleanup. Joanne arrived as a scattershot fusion of genres. Soft rock meets Americana meets Pop meets Reggaeton meets Country. It was like nothing Gaga had done before in her career, and to this day I've never heard another album like it, although I'm not sure that's a compliment. In my opinion Joanne drifts in and out of influences, sounds and genres too quickly to be good at any of them. These songs sound like theme songs to images on a mood board, an old western movie, or the music that appears in your head if you picture a cowboy, rather than craftily produced pieces of music in their own right. With instrumentation and production primarily handled by British producer Mark Ronson and EDM DJ BloodPop, I feel like the album was never given the proper resources to deeply explore the Americana influences Gaga was clearly aiming for with this project. Receiving just-okay reception from critics, the public and fans alike, Joanne was not a disaster or even really an underperformance, but it also didn't move her career onwards from where it was prior to the album's release, at least until she appeared at the Super Bowl the following year. To this day I'm not really sure if this album was intended to be a blockbuster or not. It was promoted like one, but the music is so pointedly uncommercial, aiming for no specific demographic, that it makes me wonder who the intended audience were. The music was too Hollywood for country fans, too country for pop fans, too superficial for the indie crowd. In the context of what this album could have meant for the future of her career in that turbulent period, I think Joanne is one of the most confusing releases by a major pop star.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more stunning human being in a music video ever. How on earth this woman was so beautiful, with supermodel looks, yet so incredibly talented is beyond me. I miss her. RIP Queen.

Actor Timothée Chalamet became a breakthrough star in 2017 after starring in the coming-of-age film Call Me By Your Name. Then, at only 22 year old, he earned an Academy Award nomination for his part in the film, making him the youngest Best Actor nominee since 1939. Chalamet has been on a hot streak ever since, earning glowing reviews for his roles in Beautiful Boy as well as Lady Bird and Little Women. In October 2021, he starred in a film adaptation of the novel Dune, which was received with appreciation. He is shaping up to be the only young male actor in Hollywood with name recognition and star power, but what does ATRL think of him?

base talk Where is Katy Perry well deserved Michael Jackson Video Vanguard?

Listen I'm not even a fan, even if of course I enjoy a lot of her songs, but the success of her videography is unquestionable. Even if now her overall career is not strong like in the last decade her classics videos still make more views than new pop music videos. I'm not making names but in the last years people with a loooot less relevant and viewed music videos have won it. Do you agree the Bon appetit chanteuse deserve this award?. -
