base talk if The Weeknd is the new king of pop, can we call him the male Lady GaGa?
Kayseri Mantisi posted a topic in Base
The Weeknd is gaining the title "king of pop" recently, including in ATRL. This is drawing parallels to Lady GaGa as she is the "queen of pop". But there's a big difference. Lady GaGa isn't only the queen of pop, but she is also one of the best actors of our time. She's an all in one package. She does everything, with still serving quality and talent. We all saw that The Weeknd couldn't act, and The Idol was a disaster. Since GaGa excels in both music and acting, should the title "king/queen of pop" consider multiple talents, or focus solely on music? If we think this way, does The Weeknd deserve being called the male Lady GaGa? Discuss. -

base talk Why is it considered acceptable for artists to start their shows hours late?
Just a Gay on ATRL posted a topic in Base
So I think it’s commonly known and accepted that many of the biggest artists in the game are extremelyyyyy late to start their shows. There is normally an opening act that starts around the time that the show is advertised to start, then show starts like an hour later. At least in my experience. That’s okaaay. But I feel like it’s more common than it should be for artists to start their shows 2+ hours after the advertised start time. And we all just kind of take it and go with it despite paying sometimes hundreds of dollars for a ticket. Should this kind of unprofessionalism be less accepted? The audience all have personal lives and timeliness should be more valued imo. I’m not coming for anyone specific btw, I’m pretty sure most artists are guilty of this these days. I actually think it’s the minority to be super timely lol. But why are artists so damn late? Don’t they want to go to bed earlier? Do tech issues take that long to figure out? What’s going on? -

base talk Popular italian tv show makes a prank on Sanremo host: "We can have Taylor Swift!"
vale9001 posted a topic in Base
Popular italian prime time tv show Le iene made a prank on Amadeus, the biggest italian tv figure and the host of Festival of Sanremo, the biggest tv event in Europe on a single country (15-20M viewers). Using a fake voice created with AI of a famous manager they say to him they have chances to have Taylor Swift for the final night of the show. His reaction went viral "If you need a manager i'm here and i can bring Taylor Swift at the finals" "It is a joke or we have chances? Cause if you can really make it we can open a negotation. Money are finishing but Taylor Swift, that would be crazy, i'm gonna talk with the producers cause that would be the priority over everything. We can delete or block other things to save money cause Taylor is everything. I'm gonna find the budget. Are you serious or not? Please tell me " The global buzz the 2000s Michael Jackson has -

I think we need more happy, meaningless pop songs. Let mind-numbing recession core dance-pop run wild again. What say you, ATRL?

base talk Songs You Don’t Like in Your All-Time Most Played?
HeavyMetalAura posted a topic in Base
I downloaded an app to see what my most listened to songs are in my Apple Music Library (I think most of you use last.fm but I’ve never tried it) and while it’s mostly what I expected, there are some… surprises I think we’ve all been there — our fave releases a disappointing lead single, but because we’re so excited for the album, we listen to it non-stop either out of hype, to get it to chart higher, or to convince ourselves we like it. I was shocked to learn that my seventh most played song of all time is Stupid Love… I think being excited about Gaga’s return to dance-pop after Joanne and ASIB led me to overplay the song, especially the first month it was out, but I don’t even like it that much I maintain it’s not as bad as some of y’all make it out to be, but it’s not even in my Top 50 favorite Gaga songs yet is my 7th most played song of all time. My poor ears. Pretty Girls by Britney is somehow #16… I was a huge B stan back in the day and I guess I considered this a return to form after Britney Jean — it *did* sound like a hit considering it was a Fancy rip-off and Iggy was on the verge of being A-list at the the time. The fact that it took Britney a year to follow it up with Make Me from Glory probably contributed to me playing it so much (as it was the “new” Britney song for almost a year). But I hate it now and probably haven’t listened to it since 2016. Like it’s awful Lastly, Rebel Heart (the song) by Madonna is my 20th most played song… it’s fine I guess, but not that good. I feel like I must have left it on repeat by accident when I didn’t have my headphones in or something because I swear I don’t remember listening to it that much. Are there any songs you don’t really like that are among your most-played of all time? Why? Discuss -
At the 2024 Emmys, Gomez took the Selena likeness to the next level by channeling one of Quintanilla’s most iconic beauty looks, from the 1994 Grammys. First there’s the sexy but piece-y ’90s updo—complete with a tendril bang curled to perfectly highlight Gomez’s glowing face—done by longtime hairstylist Marissa Marino. Then there’s the jewelry: whether in earrings or a show-stopping necklace, both women knew that sparkles are key to a good night on the red carpet. But most important is the red lip. For Quintanilla, it was a trademark beauty look, while for Gomez, tonight’s vampy dark berry lip is almost certainly from her own brand, Rare Beauty” Link

With Taylor she's the most constant on having big debuts on streaming platforms. She has both a very loyal big fanbase and instantly interest from the GP too when something new comes. I'm not fan of everything from her by right now I really like the aesthetics of the project and the first single...but two months before the record...i could forget about it or lose interest. Since she's very similar to Taylor for what I said (big interest in the first day from both fans and the GP) wasn't better from her label to just copy Midnights strategy (no songs until the album) which was very very fortunate. I think that would have gave it easily bigger first numbers. People were very interested to listen to first single and they would have listened to everything. What do you think?.
