base talk Is THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT the clear frontrunner for Album of the Year now?
KatyPrismSpirit posted a topic in Base
Its breaking unprecedented streaming records and is set for a massive first week debut. The album also stands at a 84 metacritic score. Is Taylor eyeing her fifth album of the year win? Or will Beyoncé, another artist or possibly Billie Eilish (former AOTY winner) walk away with it next year?- 191 replies

base talk Emails I Can't Send Rising on BB200 to #67 (+43). Surprised
Walk_Away21 posted a topic in Base
This so called flop album is climbing fast with acclaim as Espresso continues to rise. Espresso is not contributing to these numbers, and she is rising despite the Taylor album bomb and being 2 years old. Are you shocked, fuming, surprised, or happy? -
Britney's peak was no bigger than Madonna, Adele, Gaga nor Taylor. Tbh she only sold tons of albums because she would limit her singles sales to ensure bigger album sales (that explains her mediocre Hot 100 peaks back in the day) Once digital sales became a thing, she kinda flipped from album artist to singles artist Not saying she wasn't successful, but it's overrated

This week should've been a triumph for Taylor Swift as her new album has been performing very well commercially. But the popular discussion around her hasn't been this negative since 2016, and music critics haven't been this unkind to her since Reputation. Why?

base talk Fantano: TTPD 3/10; Anthology 5/10, says Taylor blatantly copied Lana, Olivia, Ariana
Diesel is Desire posted a topic in Base
- The endless strings of metaphors and similes on this record just fall flat. "The writing quality on these tracks really makes it difficult to feel for Taylor in the midst of all of this heartbreak." - Taylor hasn't taken the time conceptually or sonically to formulate a new sound, a new direction, a new evolution to coincide with this latest album cycle which she usually does with her new albums. "As a result, the material on this record on the broader pop landscape sounds derivative, sounds redundant, sounds uninspired." "I think she's closing those creative gaps by copying her contemporaries' homework. Ariana already wrote the angry at my audience for dragging me over my boyfriend anthem-of-the-year with yes, and? The song imgonnagetyouback - Olivia Rodrigo literally already did this same wordplay concept on get him back! with her latest record. There's already Florida!!! and Who's Afraid of Little Old Me? where Taylor cannot help herself from ripping off Lana Del Rey again and again and again not only lyrically, but vocally and melodically." - She needs to stop working with Jack Antonoff. "To put it bluntly, she needs to stop working with him or take a break because their creative partnership on this record is not yielding the results it used to. We're now getting multiple instrumentals that feel like Midnights but worse." "Jack forcing some awful 80s pastiche onto Taylor's songs that make them sound dated upon impact." "Jack's work with Taylor is just not what it used to be." Positive takeaways: loml is the best song on the album.- 151 replies

Madonna has definitely been having a bit of a resurgence in popularity lately with the Celebration Tour, and there's been a renewed appreciation for how good her live shows are. She's about to have a live show for almost 2 million fans that's sure to get widespread internet attention and headlines for being the largest show for a female artist ever. Additionally, there are rumors that she has an album planned for later this summer, and there are rumblings The Weeknd is at the helm for production who very rarely is a miss with pop music. Sure, she won't ever touch the sales that Beyonce & Taylor are pulling right now, but could the stars align for one more Madonna peak period with critical claim & general public appreciation if she releases a truly great pop album and capitalizes off of the current attention?

A lot of people would say Beyoncé is the biggest pop star in the world. While Beyoncé does well compared to the rest of her peers, Taylor Swift seems to be demolishing her in touring revenue and now album sales. I know that these numbers are going to cause stan wars in the future, but rather than use this thread to put down a hard working woman who just reclaimed a genre I figure we could have a discussion about why we think this is. To put it frankly, I think Beyoncé should be selling a lot more than she does, especially first week. What do you think?

base talk Honest question, what do you like / dislike about Taylor's music?
St. Charles posted a topic in Base
This isn't meant to be shady, I wanted to collect well-thought out opinions. 1. For stans, what unique qualities make you favor Taylor over any other artist? Is it the Taylor lore / love drama, lyrics, melodies, Jack's chemistry with her, etc? 2. For people who don't enjoy Taylor, why do you think this is? Are you not into her style of music or is there something in particular you don't like? -

Taylor Swift is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most influential pop stars of our generation. With multiple successful albums, countless hit singles, and a loyal fan base, she has cemented her place in the music industry. But as she continues to dominate the charts and break records, one question remains: Has Taylor Swift reached the peak of her fame? Over the years, we have seen Taylor Swift evolve from a country singer-songwriter to a global pop sensation. Her music has resonated with people of all ages and backgrounds, and her performances are nothing short of spectacular. But with every peak, there is bound to be a decline; The Tortured Poets Department, her latest album, has received mixed reviews and her public image has faced some backlash. Despite these challenges, Taylor Swift's fan base remains loyal and her success is undeniable. She has proven time and time again that she is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. But with her current level of fame and accomplishments, is there really anywhere left for her to go? Has she reached the height of her career, or is there still room for growth and even greater success? It's time for... ASK ATRL! DISCLAIMER: I am not implying that Taylor Swift's career is over or that she has peaked. This is simply a discussion about an artist's journey and the various stages of success in the music industry.
