05. Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - The Kid

An exploration of life itself and what it means to go through it, Smith puts out her most enigmatic work to date. A collection of songs that manage to not only differentiate from each other but also constantly surprise and engage. The way she is able to build electronic landscapes through her use of analogue synthesis mixed with acoustic intstruments and her processed voice is astonishing and makes for an emotional and beautiful journey until it ceases to exist, just like us.

04. Kelela - Take Me Apart

Take Me Apart basically sounds like a R&B record from the 90s mixed with an electronic record from 2030. The way she blends these worlds together seamlessly and beautifully make the record so captivating. Every single second of it manages to deliver something interesting, be it Kelela's beautiful voice or the eclectic, almost groundbreaking production. The lyrics never hold back as Kelela is completely honest with us and herself.

03. Lorde - Melodrama

To think that Lorde released her second album at 20 years old is staggering. The fact that it's her first in four years even more. And the fact that it's the best pop record of 2017 even more. Melodrama is a pulsating, glowing in every color, vibrant album, every nook and cranny filled with brilliant details and fresh production. Nothing feels forced, there is an ease to the enitre thing. Every second of it is fulfills my body with emotions and makes me want to dance or cry or both. Her songwriting got even stronger between albums, the words she chooses to express her feelings make them extremely special. The way she brings the best out of her producers to deliver truly fascinating work is amazing and shows off her talent. An electrifying piece of work.

02. Fever Ray - Plunge

Everyone expecting another self titled with Karin's first solo album in 8 years is probably at the wrong adress and although it has some of the touches of 2009's Fever Ray, it manages to a completely original and different album. It rather continues some of the work from The Knife's final masterpiece Shaking The Habitual. It explores queer discovery, recovery, existence and escapism through deconstructed electronic beats that constantly feel like punches in your face. Karin's signature voice delivering everything she has to say. The energy of this record is off the charts.

01. Perfume Genius - No Shape

Queer art really did save 2017, huh? No Shape is an album of so much beauty, so much complexity, so much honesty and poetry, it's filled with love and fear and sex and so much more. Through experimenting with his sound and songwriting, Mike released his best album and it solidifies him as one of the most important artists of this decade. I basically love every second of it and there is not much more to say, it speaks for itself.

i know no one cares anymore but i managed to finish it lol, without write ups though. sorry that i didn't really do it (for like the third time) but I had so much stuff going on it was basically impossible. I learned that it does probably help to make a plan beforehand and write stuff beforehand so work.

thanks to the people who commented tho, I hope you at least enjoyed the few posts lol or found some new stuff to listen to, will try my best to do better this year

xo, Joanne

he truly and quite literally did, I didn't even love No Shape that much at first (Slip Away I did tho) but it grew on me immensely and its such a moving piece of art, its so many things at once yet a definitive statment. We love talent

A lot of people thought so it seems, but I really liked it. I think he did great things with his sound on it, because it got repetitive on Tremors, and I loved the more stripped back, analogue sounding approach of it.

Hope you find something you enjoy xo

he truly did, I remember hearing Slip Away for the first time and I couldn't believe my ears, it was exactly what I needed and made every hair on body raise up. That explosion of sound is one of the best things that happened in 2017 lmoa

Thank you sis, I will try to do a better job this year with like actually preparing stuff so its not a huge mess like this year lol

By Mass I meant Masseduction, I should’ve been more clear :rip:

Don’t really like No Shape tbh :chick1: I listened to it numerous times (same with his previous album) but I just can’t get into him. Will make sure to check out The Witch :gaycat3:
