He took baby Janet to see them live and it was a huge moment for her influentially.

What’s random about it? Cher broke down a lot of barriers for entertainers and is the mother of pop in so many ways. Michael Jackson clearly emulated a lot of what she represented, the glamour, the aura, the larger than life persona.

Why James Brown isn't on this list baffles me. MJ has said himself this is his biggest influence.

Same person who inspired elvis!

Jackie Wilson (jackie wilson inspired all of them, especially Elvis and Michael, though.. - his vocals, his falsetto, his showmanship)

Jackie was known as Mr. Excitement and had an electrifying show filled with extraordinary choreo, which included flips, leaps, splits he also exhibited an insanely extensive vocal range (that can be heard in Michael's high falsetto exclamations) he was the blueprint from which a lot of even Elvis's persona derived. Michael is more similar to Jackie than James and the influence in undeniable. Their showmanship is similar..that smooth, sexy suave niche that Jackie started and was finally perfected by Michael.. James greatest impact didn't arrive until the start of the funk era late 60s/70s near the end of his career.

I never realized how stylistically Janet was similar to Diana during the Control era until recently :deadbanana:
