The question is usually asked for those whose native language is not English, usually follows questions about nationality. Eric is unfortunately born and raised American and Tom probably didn't know. Welp.

uhm, so... he didn't know? how is this even categorized as "racism"? he was straight up complimenting his English because he assumed he wasn't a native speaker.

it's racist to assume a korean is korean just beacuse he's doing an interview in korea and speaking korean

If someone from another country is fluent in my native language - and it's not theirs - I'd be curious how they learned it; school, watching movies, listening to music.
