The Life of a Showgirl turns one year old. Thoughts on it today?

Clearly underhated considering she still thought adding a terrible deluxe was a good idea

great melodies when you overhear the lyrics. Also I think the production is a much needed switch up after the rather moody and laid back albums (since folklore lol).

The lyrics are the least of her worries when the melody and production are not there, but they don't help AT ALL. I think she's trying to do what Lana does effortlessly, which is to combine modern slang and classic Americana, but that's just not where she shines and it shows up like a blistering wound on songs like Actually Romantic and Lowest Charter. I can try to look past the terrible 'poetry' when the melodies and her vocal performance are compelling like on Cancelled!, but it's still hard to get through "welcome to my underworld where it gets quite dark..." and "were' the ones with matching scars" when the context is Brittany Mahomes and the Super Bowl. Dire, dire, dire! 3/10

I hate everything about it, Ophelia was overplayed and got tired of it quickly, the second single was weak, the rest of the album average or bellow, Elizabeth Taylor, the title was great but that's it, massive commercial success for a very average album, this album ruined Taylor's reputation in my book, after glorious songs like Style, Blank space, Lover or Ready for it, Showgirl was painfully underwhelming

As a pop album, it fails. Ophelia is the only listenable song. Lyrically and sonically it's an empty and vapid excercise in white mediocrity.

As a concept album, it succeeds. It's an album that proves that being a billionaire rots the brain of all redeeming qualities.

I honestly use it but not that passionate to declare it as some misunderstood masterpiece.

There's 6 good songs on it between the standard and deluxe, but no career highlight. And there are 5 of the worst songs in her catalogue. So a very disappointing album for someone as talented as Taylor.

Ultimately, it's fine that she just released a head-empty album. She would have at some point anyway, like any artist. I'm just glad she got it out of her system before TS13.

I'm gonna ask this genuinely without being shady: but do you genuinely believe TS13 has the potential to be a good album if her recent songwriting material is any indication to go by?

I mean writing for TS13 started probably early this year, and it will probably cover her wedding to Travis and maybe some of the reception that Showgirl got when it was released, but we know 13 is a significant number for her, and she's 20 years into her career, so it seems most likely that she'll make another album with songs looking retrospectively back on her career, and those type of songs from her haven't been great in a while. So I'm just curious why you think that TS13 could be a good album.

It's not as bas as some critics and atrl users like to present it! Taylor hasn't got an actual BAD album in her discography! Maybe subpar of her capabilities! I think it's her Joanne!

This is rude to Joanne. That album has Perfect Illusion, John Wayne, Dancin In Circles, A-Yo etc. All kinda stomp on anything Taylor has released in years now.

Is it mid? Yes

Is everyone doing too much with the hate (it's just basic pop music nothing offensive lol) and the snarkers have gone absolutely insane after the release of this album? Also Yes

Well because not only Showgirl is just one album, but also because she has already bounced back tremendously well after a low in terms of songwriting (Lover -> folklore). And there's absolutely no logic behind the line of thinking "judging by her recent material" because otherwise, once an artist releases a bad album, it's over for them, which is not reality.

I know this website's favorite sport is to undermine Taylor's monumental gift in the songwriting department, but I don't, so I am perfectly confident in TS13's potential to be excellent.

Probably one of the most disappointing listening experiences I've ever had for an album I was looking forward to.

I was sort of cat-fished by Ophelia and everything just got progressively worse until we hit Eldest Daughter and at that point I knew we were in trouble… I couldn't fathom the same woman who gave us songs like Loml and The Prophecy just the previous year was giving us a chorus that started with "but I'm not a bad ***** and this isn't savage"… it felt felt like I was undergoing some sort of psychosis.

From the standard edition, the only two songs worthy of being released were Ophelia and RTF. Everything else ranges from average to utterly diabolical.

I gotta say, I really love "Honey". I'm not sure how that song is rated among Swifties but it makes me so nostalgic listening to it. I also love The Fate of ophelia but aside from those two songs I don't really care for the rest of the album. As for the Encore songs I only enjoy Patient Zero but the rest of the new songs are duds.

I think Taylor intentionally made this album atrocious, so that TS13 would be a masterpiece and return to form in the GP's eyes.

Father Figure should've been a single with a proper video. i see it doing well on radio compared to Elizabeth Taylor. what a missed opportunity.

I've literally listened just once in full, and most of the songs I heard twice max.

Just a tragic, HORRIBLE tragedy. Such a stain on her discog. And beyond embarrassing for a grown adult.

She's totally sold out and has zero artistic integrity anymore. So pathetic
