While it's possible voters may see this year as the final opportunity to recognize these artists in their lifetimes (McCartney is 84, Mick Jagger is 83, Keith Richards is 82 and Ronnie Wood is 79), Madonna's Confessions II seized the cultural conversation in a way the other two did not, debuting atop the Billboard 200 and making the 68-year-old the first artist to top the chart in the 2020s and three other decades. She was the big winner at the MTV Video Music Awards in September, taking home seven prizes including artist of the year; the Grammys wouldn't exactly be going out on a limb nominating her for album of the year.

And while wins for legacy artists in previous years seemed like proof to some that the Grammys were out of touch, one for Madonna would be both a nod to a longtime icon and an acknowledgment of one of the year's buzziest albums — arguably a double win for both Madonna and the academy itself.

I think she's got a strong arc for one, but Phoebe and Olivia feel more deserving tbh! No disrespect to Madonna obviously, she's very deserving as well, I just prefer the other two albums.

I love Madonna and I really enjoy this album but the acclaim is giving a little mass psychosis. Like it's great but not like I need it to win AOTY great

CONFESSIONS II has had a big year and I would not be mad at it winning AOTY at the Grammys. People often discredit Madonna but she has done a lot for the music world and she continues to be at the top of her game, decades into it.

Grammy voters, do the right thing.

It'd be well deserved and a way to right the wrong that she hasn't already been honoured with AOTY for any of her fantastic, groundbreaking albums.

Just to name a few. AOTY isn't always about acclaim, and even then Confessions 2 got pretty nice reviews and sits at 82. Depends solely on the narrative they're chasing this year.

The Grammys have not been kind to her for most of her career but I do think a nomination is possible.

1000000% deserved if it happens!

Grammys have never given AOTY to a fully electronic dance album, they prefer real instruments. Daft Punk won yes but with a dance album that was largely analog and vintage synths.

One thing about Billboard that has stayed consistent is the old gays with the coin slot holes will always act like everything she does is groundbreaking even after multiple stinkers (MDNA, RH, MX). Now that she released a decent album it's once again overshooting and saying she should even be in the running for AOTY.

one of the Olivia's will win AOTY. Rodrigo deserves but Dean might take it considering she's a more Grammy-darling like winner.

I REALLY want her to get it. it's overdue and it's one of her best outputs in forever so it really would be deserving

The more time goes by the more I'm thinking it may not be that unlikely of a win. The Olivias seem to be the front runners critically and commercially speaking but I could see the Grammys taking more of a career achievement approach with Madonna. It'll ultimately depend on the nominees
