Let's say, if could guarantee a smash for your fav but you had to choose between it being a collab or it being an old solo hit revival, which one would you choose? I think I'd choose the collab as it's always better to get new music, but what do y'all think?

Honestly, both. Smashing is a good thing for an artist in general no matter the circumstances lol. A lot of artists would kill to have a collab as big as Die with a Smile and a lot of artists would also kill to have one of their songs going massively viral randomly ala The One That Got Away because this is what this thread is about dd.

Why don't we walk up to a rando in Walmart or Target and let them decide

New>Old especially if your new music is competing with Japanese idol groups for daily streams despite your old songs doing well

Depends on if the song is smashing because of the artist like Shakira's Dai Dai or a different artist like Christina's Moves like Jagger

The Gaga vs Katy trolling aside, I would say that in a vacuum, it really doesn't matter if it's a collab or solo. If anything, maybe solo, cause that's what's gonna make you the most money I guess.

In the context of a career, I'd say it's better to smash with something new than something old, even if it's a collab, because that means you are still extending your legacy.

If an old song smashes it's usually attached to a braindead tiktok challenge, the smashery is kind of a side effect if that makes sense and isn't necessarily beneficial in the long term. At least a current collab builds momentum you can capitalize on to boost your career, like adding it to your album and calling it "the missing piece" suburban

If one of my fave's old songs started to smash, she would ignore it and not capitalize on it. So I choose collab, at least that way the other artist would force her to do something. suburban

I feel like it's a tad titti but cooler when an old song smashes. Especially if the old song was lil moderate hit back then, or a non-single. If it's a hit from the past that's smashing, then the new song wins.

New > old, since the former is actively adding to your artistic legacy and commercial viability.

The solo vs collab nonsense is just limited to the stan world.

But I understand why some people are forever stuck in the past. Nostalgia is a helluva drug.

Even more impressive if it's not new

Only Kitties and OGHs would say that having success with an old song is more impressive than a recent MEGA SMASH collab toofunny3
