Hector
Quote Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” tops the 7 million mark in digital sales this week. The song was already nearly 22 years old by the time the iTunes store opened in April 2003. You may be surprised to learn that Journey’s recording wasn’t a No. 1 hit when it was first released in 1981. It peaked at No. 9. https://www.yahoo.com/music/chart-watch-weeks-top-selling-album-way-no-8-194320336.html Soak those numbers in, ATRL. You may never see songs reach that threshold again. Only a classic. Edited July 12, 2017 by Hector

Inverted
This song has been used in tons of commercials, TV shows and movies. It's a karaoke staple. It's not just because of Glee. In fact, it's probably the reason why it was featured on Glee.

Tsuko
It's not ONLY because of Glee, although it did help a lot for its sales. I followed the charts before Glee and Don't Stop Believin was selling well before that. There was an episode of Family Guy it was featured in prominently before Glee for example. It was prominently featured at Boston Red Sox games in the team's 2004 World Series Championship Season too, and at other significant athletic events prior to 2009. So NO, Glee isn't the only, much less the initial reason, why the song has sold so many downloads. Since the song isn't even Journey's best song, I'm not sure why it's sold so many downloads. BTW, Open Arms, which spent 6 weeks at #2 in 1982, is the band's highest charting song.
