Why was Xtina able to reach bigger peak in the UK than Mariah Carey? Mariah's highest selling album there is Music Box, which is 5xPlatinum, while Stripped is 7xPlatinum.

Mariah outsold Xtina's entire career globally with just the international sales of two albums mind you

  • Mariah's local. Xtina's global.

There's really no need for this many Christina threads, I'm really over the spam.

@Mr. Stratus vindicated

UK did Mariah so dirty with WBT peaking at #2 among many crimes

But they shoes taste with "Without You" being her only #1 there other than AIWFCIY

And Music Box alone still nearly outsold Xtina's two peak eras combined WW

Stripped was a huge era here jonny2 Dirty, Beautiful, The Voice Within, Can't Hold Us Down…back to back hits.

The bolded weren't just hits but cultural MOMENTS

TBF Mariah was mixing R&B/Hip-Hop in a way that wasn't common in MPGs. Whitney dipped her toes in somewhat here and there (I'm Your Baby Tonight) but didn't have any rapper features until The Preacher's Wife and that was a gospel album, so there was nothing explicit or controversial. Clive kept Whitney's music as inoffensive as possible. Music that was "too black" (for example Kashif and Meli'sa Morgan's "Love Changes" was first offered to Whitney) was rejected.

Mariah, the racially ambiguous, pristine-presenting pop superstar, was collaborating with Ol Dirty Bastard on remixes of her biggest hits deadbanana

Mariah's biggest hits in the UK are mostly ballads (including covers of white male rock bands), not the hip-hop fused singles with rappers.

Mariah walked so Xtina could stomp. But when Emancipation era came around Mariah was able to reclaim and evolve her unique blend of pop, R&B, hip-hop, soul and gospel that she had pioneered throughout the 90s

The UK knows Mariah is only good for a 1994 Christmas throwback.

Music Box: (1993): 1 - 4 - 8 - 10 - 13 - 12 - 13 - 22 - 19 - 13 - 14 - 9 - 9 - 9 - 10 - 10 - (1994): 11 - 7 - 10 - 9 - 8 - 14 - 5 - 3 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 4 - 5 - 7 - 11 - 10 - 13 - 11 - 14 - 7 - 8 - 8 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 10 - 13 - 18 - 19 - 25 - 34 - 41 - (certified 5xP) 36 - 34 - 11 - 10 - 13 - 17 - 20 - 18 - 24 - 27 - 30 - 32 - 30 - 28 - (1995): 20 - 25 - 29 - 39 - 45 - 50 - 59 - 64 - / - (1996) (RE): 100

Certified 5xP in October of 1994. No recertification since, despite spending Xmas 1994 in the top 30 and 20.

Weeks at #1:
6 - Music Box
0 - Stripped

Weeks in the top 10:
37 weeks - Music Box
21 weeks - Stripped

Weeks in the top 40:
72 weeks - Music Box
70 weeks - Stripped

Weeks in the Top 100:
78 weeks - Music Box
112 weeks - Stripped

Outside the Top 100, Music Box continued to chart for 53 more weeks.

1995: 108 - 117 - 110 - 111 - 102 - 131 - 108 - 162 - 164 - 167 - 161 -129 - 151 - 172 - 121 - 109 - 120 - 159 - 181 - 169 - 140 - 158 - 159 - 161 - 169 - 107 - 119 - 127 - 155 - 157 - 134 - 143 - 139 - 140 - 165 - 159 - 158 - / - 189 - / - 156 - 180 - 185 - 197

1996: 133 - 145 - 193 - / - 195 - / - 173 - 168 - 176 - / - 190 - 192
1997: 175 - 192

I hope I could help.

Music Box should at the very minimum be 6xP, but I wouldn't say that 7xP would be out of question.

Year end charts:
1993 - #10 - Music Box
1994 - #3 - Music Box
2002 - #110 - Stripped
2003 - #3 - Stripped
2004 - #64 - Stripped
2005 - #181 - Stripped

I have no idea why Music Box did not make the YEC for 1995. #20 peak, 9 weeks in the top 100 and 42 weeks in the top 200. It basically charted for the entirety of 1995 (52 weeks). In The top 120 for 19 weeks.

And yet she's not the only one the thread is about. Notice how you didn't pull up a receipt just because I don't worship your Lamb cult fave.

Mind you, the only time that I ever see/notice them is when they're posting Mariah hate. They talk about Mimi more than they do the woman in their user name suburban
