Ariana Grande: Concern or Parasocial Behavior?

Featured Replies

People have always loved building artists up just to tear them down later, especially when they have obvious personal issues. Social media and the post-truth era have only made it worse. Now it feels like every day is just, "Who's next?" Most of the time, the things people claim to care about are just an excuse to destroy someone.

People are right to be concerned about her, especially with her pro-ana history. That being said there's not anything anyone can do and this discourse will get us nowhere, the only person who can stop

It's not concern for most people. They see an opportunity to body shame a celeb they don't like and maintain a moral high ground so they're taking it. It's called concern troling.

There is nothing but love & respect in my heart for Ari.

And seeing her for the past 2 years or so simply makes me worried. I have eyes and I know what I'm seeing - and that is not a healthy person.

It's that simple. I want her to be healthy and set the good example she truly intends and strives to be.

it's obviously both....people have every right to be concerned but anyone using this opportunity to garner fame, money, etc. are disgusting humans who should rot in hell.

Look at her comments on TikTok, IG, etc. Absolutely none of that is concern. It's disgusting, cruel and heinous how people are speaking about her. Claim to care about EDs and the youth but proceed demonize a person suffering from a serious mental illness as a moral failing while fueling said culture they say they despise. Also turning the conversation to blame the fans. No different than MAGAs main objective being to own the libs. Moral policing to feel morally superior continues to plague the left and the reason why conservatives have control of the cultural narrative at large. This discourse surrounding Ariana is just one example of this toxic mindset being promoted around so called progressive spaces. These idiots making the world worse with this behavior and doing the opposite of what "woke" is supposed to represent. Then they act shocked at our current cultural reality.

She is likely unwell, nobody is denying that. We have eyes. But we as the public have NO power. We do not know this woman. She's a stranger. She's not responsible for your f***ing children. Parents should log off the internet and start parenting if they're so concerned their kids are that easily influenced by a skinny celebrity. It was infuriating and harmful when they did this same s**t to Britney back in the day. Just be mean and own it. Stop pretending to care about kids or the culture by dressing your mean spirited commentary as sincere concern. Most of the people don't actually care one bit.

Extremely well put and 1000% accurate. Bravo.

You can't necessarily fix an ED by expressing concern online, in fact that could be part of what is fueling the issue if it is an ED. Some people with ED's thrive off of the attention they get for it regardless of what kind, other's are ashamed by it and that shame makes their mental state worse and therefore it's harder for them to make the big changes recovery requires. I'm not saying it's necessarily wrong to express concern but a lot of people don't seem to understand that they most likely aren't helping. I've also seen a lot of people who are more afronted by the notion that they are being gaslit by her/her team/her fans, they seem to care more about being proven right than Ariana's wellbeing. Imo this is a very self centred concern, she doesn't actually have to disclose or be honest about her medical info, everyone has a right to keep that private even a celebrity.
