People (ATRLers) gave too much credit to "first week sales" - as if it's a make or break for an album's success.

Well, quite frankly, because it's the only thing they can brag about since first week sales made up of mostly pure sales from fandom - which is what pop girls usually excel over their peers.

I think it's pretty great that she charted for a second week at all...

The fact that she managed to go top 3 and even chart for 2 weeks is impressive enough.

I generally didn't even think she'd debut in the Top 20.

i love hilary but i truly doubt anyone is shocked that the album fell she hasn't been on the public eye for over a decade in this way and hasn't consistently pursued a music career since 2003-07. her sales were massive all things considered and if the album has a madame x trajectory (top 3, barely charting, out by week 3) i still think this album is a major success for her

Tbh when I saw that Hilary Duff is coming back I thought it wouldn't reach anyone outside of stan twitter gays and she might be able to sell out theatres. But atm she seems culturally relevant and she's doing arenas. That's fantastic and probably MUCH more than she was expecting to happen.

Yes, and? This comeback is a major success FOR HER, no matter how you put it. She's doing about 60 sold-out dates in arenas worldwide.

It was going to happen. The way she is still charting is even impressive. Her streaming numbers are non-existent and all her sales came from physicals, which always peak during the first week.

This is absolutely a success. A ten-year break, and she smashed first week sales in every major market and charts for a second week in the USA and sells out a world tour?

No need for any real hit single. No award shows/performances. Only a few major interviews and podcasts and she will effortlessly beak 100K locally in two weeks?

I don't mean this in a shady way but the only people checking for her new album were hardcore fans (millennials and maybe some Gen Z too). I'm not surprised it was front loaded af.

I mean at least it charted.

Usually albums with big pure sales drop more steep.

She still doubled BIBO's first week sales with no album for 11 years. It's still a huge accomplishment.
