Hard Candy and Rebel Heart are overhated, both excellent pop albums just maybe don't compare them to Ray of Light...

None really.

If anything, the critics' darling is Like a Prayer. It's always treated as one of her definitive albums yet I'd easily rank albums like Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Music above it, and they rarely get the same level of praise.

Confessions on a Dancefloor.

As someone who adores this album, it's sad to hear how they claim it's her best and nothing after it is worthy of hearing...anyone who has listened to those albums can tell she still has great music after it. In the end, Madonna's own discography is her biggest enemy, mostly thanks to COAD.

Confessions.

I got into Madonna's discography very late. In COVID is when I did a deep dive into her catalogue. I was only exposed to her singles befor that. I remember posting on forums about it at the time and everyone was hyping up Confessions. It was an album that was a miss for me. Instead, I gravitated towards American Life, Ray of Light, Erotica, and ... Madame X the most.

Like A Prayer, without a doubt.

People act like it's her magnum opus when it's bottom half of her albums.

I originally said none, but now that I think about it ,American Life seems to get a lot of unwarranted praise these days. It's good, but not great by Madonna's standards.

Erotica and Bedtime Stories which you can already see in this thread lol, I just don't care for them

I've seen a lot of fans claim her debut is in her top 3 albums. It's a cute album but I mean... no

I think that album is underrated nowadays.

Rolling Stone once said it was "as close to art as pop music gets" and I agree.

Fabulous album!

I think it was probably at the time it released; when compared to its predecessors it had a stronger theme/narrative, and was far more experimental.

I feel like all her fan-favourite/acclaimed albums are rightfully praised so I guess the answer is American Life

Overall, Confessions. Has a few fantastic tracks but there are some poorly-written songs as well. Music ends with ease.

On Atrl? American Life is truly mediocre.

Obviously Confessions, although there is a small cult that acts like her debut is her greatest album that I find particularly annoying

Her debut is a flawless album with no skips though. It has 5 classics, plus the well known Physical Attraction and 2 other great album tracks.
