Do these singers have songs on the level of Like A Prayer, Running Up That Hill, Bad Romance, Toxic, Crazy in Love, Tik Tok, We Belong Together etc.? Miley has Wrecking Ball. I could totally picture a retired woman singing that for karaoke. Ariana, Demi and Selena seem relevant for their generation only, and nothing they've put out feels timeless. Even Lorde and Lana despite not having a pre-made career charted out for them by the Disney or Nickelodeon machine have songs that transcend. Why can't these ex acts achieve it?

Ariana most definitely does have classics. She should not be grouped with Demi & Selena. I think people saying she doesn't is sometimes a sign this site doesn't have enough Gen Z and younger representation tbh.

One Last Time, Love Me Harder, Break Free, Dangerous Woman, S*de to S*de, Into You, 7 Rings & We Can't Be Friends are all remembered. There's no reason to believe people will not pass down those songs as they age like some of the other songs in the OP.

Maybe my point was too generalizing but nonetheless I don't think this site gives Ari enough credit for the enduring success of her singles, many of which are 10+ years old or approaching it at this point, and are easily keeping up with several classics in the OP. Is there any reason to say they are not classics?

No they don't and the funniest thing is that Selena and her edm domination is closer than the other two, I can see some of her droplets aging into radio edm classics

I do think 60 year olds know Royals and Young & Beautiful at least. Somehow Britney and Taylor managed to get classics with high octane pop music. Kelis has Milkshake, and Kate Bush launched a hit decades into her career with RUTH.

in an era which no longer has the kind of monocultural reach of pre 2010 they're not going to have the kind of songs known by everyone in the same way as something like "like a prayer", a thread like this is just a cheap set up (like so many threads on this website)

I am nowhere near 50 but Ari has had a lot of the biggest female pop hits from the mid 10s onwards, so if Ariana was not able to get classics from this time period, I can't imagine many other female artists were successful in nabbing multi-generational classics either. Nonetheless I think people underestimate how popular Ariana is. The younger people streaming here a ton now are going to eventually be 50+ and pass down their love of her to their children too. So if people 50+ RIGHT NOW don't know as many Ari songs as say songs from the mid 00s, that may not be true in 10-20 years.

We're lucky if someone 50+ years old even knows Bad Romance tbh. There is research that a lot of people stop keeping up with new music in their mid 30s. Which is why I'm trying so hard to keep up with new music personally because I hate when older people give up on trying new music, but it's very common. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of 50+ year olds don't know any female pop songs that came out after 2009.

Another good example would be that I doubt many current 50+ year olds know many Lana or Billie songs but 50+ year olds in 10-20 years will know them more. It's all cyclical.

You mention Wrecking Ball but not Flowers, which certainly spanned generations.
