When I went to Avril's GH Tour last year and the year before, I saw a good mix of gay men and str8 men at her concerts. That's more straights than you'd find at any of Taylor's concerts.

In fact, I spotted rock purists and metalheads wearing Rolling Stones shirts, Metallica shirts, Green Day shits, Blink-182 shirts, and Guns N' Roses shirts. I even noticed a few Gen Xers wearing WWE shirts like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Cody Rhodes.

Why does Avril has so much appeal to str8 men?

Well, it's because of the 2000s pop-punk scene. She was one of the main singers from that era, and yes, a lot of straight and LGBT people are part of that audience

She can kinda go back to her pop punk roots in recent years and that bring back a lot of rock fans who are actually concert goers. I love that rock girl vibe of her and thought she should do three rock albums before releasing TBDT

She's always been bigger in the pop-punk scene, she was pretty much the only female along with Amy Lee and Hayley Williams to fill that void on tour lineups and magazine covers, especially in the early 2000s so it makes sense. I don't really think she's considered a pop star.

Wait, what? I've been a fan since Complicated, and yes, there are the occasional "straight dudebro who likes guitar-driven music and thinks Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain because it's still a very misogynistic culture, especially for the uneducated ones who only comprehend surface level mainstream rock" but I have met LOTS AND LOTS of queer people through a mutual love for Avril's music!

The most recent one being my cousin's girlfriend. She's a massive fan and a massive dykke. I used to be on AvrilSpain (I was 14, don't judge me) and the friends that I made there were ALL alternative Spaniard twinks, all of them gay. My former guitar player lived a straight life until he met me, and honestly, I was expecting him to judge me for listing Avril as one of my influences. And I though, "Oh, wow, a straight guy who likes her, that's nice" but then we did homosexual things, so... it's basically 100% a queer fanbase, from what I've experienced personally.

Avril speaks to the queers --- her tomboy style, her lyrics about the absolute horror that is dating men, her slightly androgynous casual vibe, Ramona is for the girls, gays and theys. She's the gayest (allegedly) straight woman ever.

Edit: I just remembered, back then, I would chat with this one Brazilian twink who was a massive Avril fan. One day, he bleached his hair platinum blonde with a pink streak. This was her doll awakening. Avril turned this twink into a woman, and it was beautiful to see.
