It's become the definitive sound of the retro 80s. A perfect example of a timeless song that's dated.

obviously a pop staple. But her true iconic hit will forever be Like a Prayer.

Honestly all the Like a virgin and True blue releases are insanely iconic

Even though it's not in my personal Top 10/20 Madonna songs, it's perfectly produced and undoubtedly iconic! 👑

She has so many classics and hits, but this and Like a Virgin are incredibly iconic. heart

You're right because those two were the very start

This, Like a Virgin, Hung Up, Frozen and La Isla Bonita skipping her SB set because she had the marvelous idea to bring LMFAO on stage was criminal.

It's an undeniable mega classic. Choosing to pay homage to Monroe's Diamonds Are a Girls Best Friend for the video was genius.

HOWEVER for me personally Material Girl and Like a Virgin rank pretty low on my list of all time favorite Madonna songs. I love when she pulls them out on tour once in awhile. They are a blast to revisit in that sense, but as stand alone tracks they are just too kitsch for me. And I think even Madonna knew this which is why she was already performing them like this in 1987 poking fun at them.

It's unforgivable and unfortunate

Love.

She is so funny and over the top here, those faces and smirks, the makeup, the outfit, everything, I love it

Both MG and LAV (both unwritten and unproduced by Madonna) catapulted the Queen into the stratosphere of fame. MG in particular has become a multi-generational hit.

Not a fan of them, though. As an OG wannabe, and save for CFY, I quite favor her self-penned or produced songs.

It's immensely iconic!

Though, I just re-watched the video and that ending is so hollow. The director guy who wants to woo Madonna finds out that she is receiving diamonds from everyone and isn't impressed with "materials" so gives her messy flowers and rents a truck to take her on a date instead and they presumably have sex in it... but really that's just another way of using a material thats inauthentic to you for its social value in order to get what you want from another person.
