From time to time in conversation with @prince we would talk about artists, him mostly bringing them up. In this instance, I brought up @ladygaga before her album "Artpop" was to be released and relatively early in her career. I asked if Gaga changing her appearance or her reinventing of herself that she has been doing was perhaps taking away from her talent and if there would be longevity. Prince defended her saying she has yet to show her full talent. "Gaga has not even shown her full potential which will be even more than music but she will reach icon status in different avenues. People do not understand or grasp her full potential. She does and she her talent will be limitless" He said that Gaga gets it and that she can play. A few years prior, he brought up her talent on the piano and that he was paying attention to her and that she was a true original. Now mind U, to reiterate, this conversation was before her 3rd album was to come out. Within a few years she would show not only her musical range but also her acting range, proving his vision of seeing her success in different avenues turned out to be quite prophetic.

Well this aged poorly...

Praised her in 2013 but then shaded her in 2015 I get that it was fashionable to kick her when she was down after Artpop, but if he recognized her talent then he could've been a lot nicer to her afterwards.

Because Born This Way was her best album and Artpop horrible and the era/her as artist (and even the person), was... Well not her best moment.
