artists sell their portions of the rights. if an artist doesn't have songwriting credit or has multiple co-writers on songs then it lowers the value of their catalog.

it's sad to know she's done with music for good but she's been through so much so i hope she's truly doing better now and is happier

Low nine figures? That's not bad considering her self-worth was estimated to be $60 million at the time the conservatorship ended … she basically more than doubled that. I'm assuming she had no more interest in music, and is just trying to live off of her previous work as best she can.

From a business perspective, this is a good move. She's retired and she's not planning on making new music in the future. Also, these will prevent her family from profiting from her when she's gone.

Having said that, she still owns her brand, and that includes any future projects including the biopic and merchandising, and obviously, touring, if that ever happens

It would be the masters. I guess she owned a percentage of the masters & her label owned the rest (which is the case for a lot of artists), and she sold off the percentage that she owned. I really don't know how to feel about this
