even if we like it or don't (and I don't enjoy either's efforts in 2026), Lorde and Lana were among the most influential pop artists of the 10s.....

Charli has better industry connections and is more willing to play the game.

I guess so but I think the core reason is the frequency of releases - Lorde's infamous for releasing once in a blue moon unlike Charli who's more consistent in this regard hence she stays in the spotlight more often

she is more popular amongst pretentious gays yes, Lorde continues to make better music however

absolutely not. no one called lorde the things charli xcx and her respective craft and image are being called (rightfully)

Praying for frontal lobe development and safe aging to all gays 🙏🏻

They literally released the girl, so confusing remix to shut down this exact tired narrative & it gave us one of the best verses in recent memory from Lorde who was absolutely spitting, yet somehow y'all are doing the exact opposite of what the song was asking for.

Pure Heroine changed pop music permanently. Melodrama is one of the greatest albums of all time, and is still being copied. Solar Power was genuine artistic growth. Virgin was AOTY 2025. She's currently on a sold out worldwide arena tour 14 years into her career, maintaining this level with just 4 albums released on a strict 4 year cycle, not using social media in between. Ribs from 2013 recently passed a billion streams. I'm not even getting into songwriting, impact, etc.

This has nothing to do with brat and Charli isn't touching her at all.

It was 100% Billie. Broke out before Melodrama, started to peak right after, younger, more 'traditionally' artistic.

Chart goblins can correct me though, just my viewpoint!

Charli lost hipster cred when brat went mainstream thats how hipster cred works

I don't think Charli has anything to do with Lorde's decline. Her mistake was taking almost ten years to release an album that connected with her fanbase (I am a Solar Power truther, but facts are facts).

It depends.

Lorde hasn't seen critical acclaim in over a decade. Solar Power bombed, and Virgin went largely unnoticed, while Brat is one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the century. So, kinda yes.

However, Lorde's decline happened long before Charli's breakout. If anyone really overtook her, I'd say Billie, or even Lana when she re-peaked in 2019. After NFR!, Lana became a critical darling and cemented her status as the most important and influential alt-pop girl, almost as if she crossed into legend territory.

Charli is to young teens now what Lorde was 10 years ago, with both having older fans too. so kind of yes but kind of no? it's just a natural cycle of things. they have some differences but a similarity in being edgy and rooting a lot of their artistry in criticism and contrarianism.
